Chapter 0:

God Slayer and Miss Goddess

"God Slayer"

Year 2052
Delhi, India
In this era, virtual reality is no longer just a concept—it is the way of life. Entertainment has evolved beyond movies and books, with social media platforms like Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, Twitter, and YouTube now dominated by VR-based content. AR games, once revolutionary, have taken a backseat as people immerse themselves in the world of VR gaming.
Yet, one game has managed to survive despite its outdated technology—"World Slasher."
A decade-old game, World Slasher isn’t among the high-end VR games of today. It still runs on mobile, making it accessible to the middle class and lower-income groups. While newer, more immersive games exist, their exorbitant costs keep them out of reach for many. This affordability is what keeps World Slasher alive, despite its age.
And among the countless players keeping this game alive, one stands out.
---
Inside a dimly lit room, a young man sits with his headphones on, eyes locked onto his mobile screen, fingers moving rapidly. He is completely lost in the game, unaware of the world around him.
A sudden voice shatters his focus.
"Karan!"
The voice belongs to his mother, calling from downstairs. But Karan doesn’t hear her—his focus is unshakable.
A moment later, the voice returns, sharper and filled with irritation.
"Karan! If you don’t come downstairs right now, I’m coming up!"
(That typical Indian mother’s warning—deadlier than any in-game boss fight.)
Snapping out of his gaming trance, Karan sighs, pulls off his headphones, and heads downstairs. In the living room, his mother and father sit with their evening tea.
"Yes, Maa? What happened?" he asks, trying not to sound annoyed.
His mother glares at him. "What happened? Do I have to call you a hundred times before you listen? What were you doing upstairs?"
Karan hesitates. "I... was playing a game."
His mother’s expression darkens. "Of course! That’s all you ever do! You’ve passed 12th, but now what? Do you even have a plan? No college applications, no job—how long will this go on?"
She turns to his father, "Am I the only one who has to scold him, or do you plan to say something too?"
His father, calmer but firm, sets down his teacup. "Your mother is right, Karan. You can’t just sit around playing games all day. At least help with the household work. Life isn’t going to wait for you to figure things out. If you don’t think about your future, no one else will."
Karan sighs. "I did apply for a job… but I wasn’t selected."
His mother softens slightly but doesn’t back down. "I’m not saying you should do just anything to earn money. But if you’re home, at least be useful."
She hands him a piece of paper. "Here’s a list of groceries and vegetables. Check everything carefully and bring them back."
Taking the list, Karan heads out to the market.
---
Evening.
After completing the household chores, Karan returns to his room, ready to escape reality once again. He picks up his phone and launches "World Slasher."
It’s an old game, but for Karan, it’s more than just entertainment. In a year and a half, he has climbed the ranks to become one of its most feared players. Inside this virtual battlefield, he is not just another ordinary gamer—he is a legend.
But no one in the real world knows his identity.
He has carefully hidden who he is, and though thousands respect (and fear) him in-game, in reality, he is just Karan, an unemployed 18 Year-old.
As soon as he logs in, a familiar name appears on his screen.
"Miss Goddess is online."
A small smile plays on his lips.
Miss Goddess—a name feared by many in the game, yet a friend to Karan. She was someone he had met just a few months ago in World Slasher, but their bond had grown quickly. They played together, strategized together, won battles together.
But unlike Karan, she hadn’t hidden her identity completely.
He knew exactly who she was in real life—Mayra, a girl from his 12th-grade class.
She, however, had no idea that the legendary player "God Slayer" was none other than the quiet boy she once shared a classroom with.
And so, the game begins.
God Slayer and Miss Goddess enter the battlefield once more.
