Chapter 7:
Overdrive!!
The city of Yarsh hangs in the air, propelling itself with the engines underneath it, looking like an island in the sky. The island was big enough to hold entire skyscrapers and streets. Almost being able to forget you were in the air. Their airship docks before Adrian, Evelyn and Shimmy step out into the street. The two friends walk next to each other but Shimmy makes it a point to walk behind them.
Adrian glances behind him at Shimmy, “Would you quit walking behind us?”
“Yeah right, so you can stab me in the back?” Shimmy replies,
Adrian rolls his eyes and turns to Evelyn, “Can’t we just tell Gap tooth we dropped this guy off wherever he’s supposed to go, Ev?”
“No can do, dude, not when we finally have a lead on the burn.” Evelyn says while shaking her head.
“And I made my terms clear, get me to my associates, they can tell you more on how to go about your disease.” Shimmy adds,
“So we’re supposed to just go along with whatever the first nutcase tells us?” Adrian said,
“It's worked out for me so far.” Evelyn gives Adrian an incredulous look.
“Ha ha…” Adrian says to Evelyn before turning his attention to Shimmy, “Would you just walk ahead already?! We’ve got no idea where your paranoid ass wants to go ‘cause you won’t tell us!”
“I said I would give you directions! Just stay on this path and do as I say!” Shimmy yells back,
Adrian turns and almost stomps ahead, getting a laugh out of Evelyn. Shortly after the trio’s ship lands, the Thunderblades following them also dock. The four assassins pile out of their vessel and Hanna’s eye scans the crowd for her targets.
“I don’t see them, they must’ve moved quickly.” She said,
“Do you think they’re onto us?” Jobe replies,
“I thought I told you guys to calm down…” Gale says while still looking at his game, “They probably just want to get off the street as quickly as possible, that’s what I’d do if I was a rat.”
“Should I begin reconnaissance?” Hanna asks,
“Nah…” Gale responds, putting away his game, “I’ll go. Once I find the rat nest I’ll let you know. You three attack from the front, they’ll send most of their bodyguards to you, while they take the important people in the back…” He grins, “Where I’ll be waiting for them.” He moves and in the next instant he’s gone.
The trio reach their destination, a grand museum, pillars made of marble holding up the structure. Once inside they are greeted with a tall ceiling, painted glass windows and a floor so clean they can see their reflection in it. The exhibits are similar to the storm chaser’s exam room, details of their different achievements and milestones across the walls.
“Wouah! Check it out, Adrian!” Evelyn says as she rolls over to a model of one of the first airships, its design is more like a zeppelin than a boat with wings. “Wouldn’t it be cool to fly around in one of these?”
“Cool? Definitely. But don’t you think it looks a little… Weak? Like it would get swept away in the storm?” He replies,
“Yeah, I guess that’s true… Probably why it’s in here.” She turns her attention to Shimmy, “So? Were to-” but she stops, seeing that Shimmy isn’t in the spot he was last. “And… He’s gone.”
“About time.” Adrian says, also turning his head.
“That’s not funny.”
“Wasn’t trying to be, seriously, you really think that garbage about the moon’s true? He probably said it to earn your trust long enough to run.”
“When are you going to stop assuming everyone is a jerk like you?! You’re not the one dying here! That ‘garbage’ was the only lead we’ve had in weeks!”
“Alright, alright! Let’s go look for him…”
The two split off and start making their way through the museum, Adrian stuffing his hands in his pockets as he glances from side to side. An emergency exit in the back of the building catches his eye and he walks over to it. He opens the door and pokes his head out, looking from side to side before he notices Gale, sitting by the side of the door with a pout. Gale’s eyes light up as he sees him and springs to his feet.
“Oh thank god! Hold the door please!” He said, Adrian stepping to the side to let him in, “Man you’re a real lifesaver! I had no idea these doors were locked from the inside! Thanks!” He then darts inside the museum.
Adrian looks out of the alley and then comes back in after not seeing anything else. He turns and sees that Gale is also nowhere to be found. He looks around with a confused expression but suppresses the bad feeling in his chest and continues to look. With Evelyn at the front of the building, she rolls around the museum at a quicker speed then her friend, desperation slowly growing across her face. However, a tap on her shoulder snaps her out of her trance, spinning around to see an older man with a long grey beard and a gentle face. Behind him is Shimmy and Evelyn grins seeing him.
“Shimmy! Whew, thought I lost you!” She said,
“Good afternoon, Miss, I’m Chante.” The old man extends his hand and Evelyn takes it,
“Evelyn, so I’m guessing you’re Shimmy’s friend?”
“Yes, you can say that, I hear you’re the one with the… Problem?” Chante said,
“Yeah… That’s me. Soo… You also think the cure is on the moon?”
“Not entirely, to explain it further, I’ll need the help of my good friend… History. This museum has become dull over the years. You won’t find much use out of the general floor. I much prefer the basement section. Come, you may bring your comrade along with you, I have much to show you…”
Chante turns on his heel, joy evident on his face, as he leads Evelyn deeper into the museum.
