Chapter 2:
Face of Eternity : The Journey of a Little Angel
All around me were dark hands, staring on with such vile eyes in their palms. They were closing in once they saw how weak and frail I was. As they shot forward to grab me within their clutches, a faint white light within my heart kept them at bay.
The more my light prevented the dark beings from touching me, the more pride spilled over my head. That double edged sword of pride proved to be my downfall, as the light began to dim.
Without that light at my core, I couldn’t fight away the darkness. It was swallowing me up, devouring me completely.
Like a dagger it charged forward, dividing the air in its path with ease. The metal of a blade was supposed to shine, but this metal only ate the remnants of light, turning nothing but black.
That was when a figure stepped between me and the blade of darkness. His body holstered the dagger within. The light at his core hemorrhaged gold, bathing everything it touched in a gaudy hue.
I screamed, but my voice was weak. I tried to yell for daddy, but his life was taken in place of mine.
“Bring back the light.” His final words were a stab to my soul, but one I allowed without fear of death.

-Good morning, Yalda (^▽^)-
My blue eyes shot open and lit up, giving me sight on the curved glass door that shielded my bed from the outside world. The crystal gem that protruded from my chest pulsed fast with light, forcing me forward just to relieve a little bit of the anxious tension.
I squeezed my stuffed unicorn tightly in my left hand grip, while the right hand pressed against the glass to force it open.
The sleeping pod lock released and the glass door opened. I jumped from my bed, heading straight for a messy desk to my left.
“I had a bad dream,” I cried as I cleared space for my diary and wrote those words. “Daddy died again.”
The pulse of my crystal heart increased dramatically as I finished writing. I opened up a status menu on my hotbar, knowing what it showed might calm me. A little line of light loaded up, spiking up and down, displaying a healthy heartbeat.
“Oh…” I sighed, like a weight had been lifted from my lungs. “Daddy’s still okay.”
Thankfully, bad dreams end when you wake up.
Coming down from that mini heart attack, I initiated a morning diagnostic on my body to make sure everything booted up properly.

-Yalda Asamo System(s) Status: All systems operating nominally! (^_^)-
It looked like everything was good. All systems were green. Actually, they were blue, because that was the colour I picked for my software menus.
With another breath, I started flipping through my diary to notice that the top of the last few hundred pages had the exact same things written out. It was the same bad dream over and over again, and nothing was helping. Believe me, I'd tried. Not even Uni the Unicorn could fend off those nightmares!
I folded my arms over the diary and laid my head down on them, sniffling like a baby. The usual morning routine.
Suddenly, something started poking my head…
“Sssss…” hissed a sound on my desk. I must have woken up Samael.
I was too sad, so I ignored his first few attempts to get my attention, but on the third poke, I lifted myself up and looked at my pink snake.
“Samael?” I said, giving him a good snoot booping. “Are you trying to cheer me up?”
His attempt gave me a warm feeling. A smile on my face followed close behind. He was so smart that I couldn't help but be impressed.
His little head bobbed up and down, then he turned upwards toward a princess themed calendar taped on the metal wall. A blue circle and heart had been drawn around the date of September 5th.
“Jumpin jeepers!” I immediately stood up, almost knocking over my chair. “Is today the day?!”
This was one of the best times of the year, because it was my sixth birthday!
Without hesitation I sprinted across the room and rapidly typed away at a virtual keypad on the wall. When I input a specific code, after four miserably failed attempts, my closet door slid open with a special*wooshy* sound.
Dresses were lined up according to their colour. I vaguely tried to keep them coordinated based on the shades of a rainbow. Unfortunately, I only had so many colours to work with, and so little patience to keep them sorted.
“Purple… Blue… Green… Blue again?”
My hand slapped across each decorative article, looking for the right one to use on this very special day.
“Where is it?” My eagerness grew as I realized my organization skills actually sucked. “Where is my favourite dress?” Surely on this special day I couldn’t wear anything but my favourite dress!
Was Uncle cleaning it? I didn't remember asking him to do that. I hoped he didn’t come into my room without my permission.
Not that he needed permission to tidy up my room, but still…
Samael slithered up my leg and right onto my arm as I searched. He sprung into the closet and coiled himself around the metal beam supporting all the hanging clothes.
“Sssss…” He hissed, arcing his head down and pointing between two shirts.
“Gasp!”
I quickly parted the two shirts, revealing the cozy eggshell white dress that was hidden between them.
“Yay!” I cheered, tugging it off its hanger and tossing it on. “My dress!”
It was perfect for any occasion. Comfortable, stylish and easy to slip on. No need for Uncle to zip me up in the back or anything.
I took a look in the mirror, proud of my ability to dress myself. A big girl has to be able to do those sorts of things, especially on a big day like today.
“All dressed and ready to impress!” I winked, throwing myself a thumbs up as I struck a power pose. Not that I had anyone but myself to impress…
“Hmm… Something isn't quite right…”
I stroked my chin as I looked myself over in the mirror. That was when Samael climbed right up to my head and clutched a clump of white left side hair until he was happily acting as a scrunchy for a ponytail.
“Ah ha!” I cheered, happy that my silhouette was now complete.
Now all I had to do was wait for Uncle…
-...-
But for some reason, he was taking a while. Maybe he was busy setting up something for my special day? I hoped we weren’t training today.
“Sammy, you think he’s getting me a unicorn?”
“Sss…” he hissed in a negative tone.
“What do you mean, ‘no way?’” I pouted.
Samael is such a realist, I swear.
Well, if Uncle wasn’t getting me a unicorn, what was he going to do for me today? Usually I’d get one really nice present each year. Maybe if we had a place to put a unicorn…
Maybe I'll ask for an animal stable?
*Bzzz*
A buzzing sound rang in the hallway, getting louder by the second. I got excited because I knew exactly what it meant.
"Young Mistress,” it was Uncle! “Good morning and happy birthday."
A big and yellow crystal bee construct flew into my room from the hallway.
“Uncle!” I rushed at him and bounced in place with excitement. “Uncle Uncle! You remembered!”
“Of course I remembered,” he said with a chuckle. “My apologies for taking so long to come up here, but I think you’ll like what I have in store for your special day.”
