Chapter 1:

Adrenaline

Threat level Zero

Screams filled the night as we tried to get our job done quickly. I backhanded a man with my claws out, retracting them just as quickly as I summoned them. He stumbled back in surprise and I surged forward, my black hair swinging forward as I pulled his head down on my knee, sounding a loud crack after elbowing the back of his neck for good measure he crumpled silently. Braxton was not as silent with his work unlike Scion and I, I made sure to tear out their windpipe if they did make a sound. It was gorey and brutal, but it was also intoxicating. We were in a lighting company known as Skylight who had taken out one of our street patrols. All the men wore fine expensive black suits and were well equipped for hand to hand combat. I smiled under my mask, however, not as equipped as I. Five men lay on the floor, some of them in their own pool of blood, none of them alive. I was in an office by the looks of it. Screams came from the staff lounge next door. I quickly continued forward through the dark room towards the door. With my night vision I could see perfectly. Click the earpiece in my right ear buzzed. “Just finished up with the lower level on my way to level two” a low husky voice called Scion

“I'm on my way to the main level I'll try and clean a pathway” I replied coolly

“Rodger that” Aryss buzzed back to me. Swinging open the door I stepped outside onto the clean white tiles carefully listening. The screams had died down click “finished” Braxton buzzed all too happily. Outside it was empty all the lights in the hall off. I leaned forward breaking into a sprint towards the stairs. Elevators were taboo in this operation. Anyone could be at the control center waiting to shut them down. That's where I was headed. Adrenaline pumped my veins, two years had passed since their break out and no one suspected a thing. Or at least, none seemed to. Reid had been monitoring everything, sometimes he had even slept with a wrist computer waiting on any breaking news or updates. He had gone so far as to hack local cameras to monitor the Asylums activity. Alas, no news.

Turning left I reached the stairs taking them two at a time while listening with my heightened senses. I picked up on nothing and pressed forward reaching the top of the stairs. Shuffling began in the room across. I let my claws slide out over my fingernails. Stalking towards the door, breathing steadily. My mask protected the nape of my neck, it had metal reinforcing on either side of my cheeks with two neon blue light strips to indicate which operative I was. The room's door was open, no lights on inside except for a single lamp and a man at a desk back towards her. Creeping forward sure as not to make a sound I lowered myself low to the tile crouching. I drew a dagger from my thigh holster before peeking around and hurling it at the nape of his neck. It met its mark leaving a mess, there was a gurgle and I finished him off with a swipe. A computer was on, many panels with switches and buttons scattered around the desk. On the computer was a picture of one of their locations. Eyes widening I scooted into the chair “I'm here” Braxton buzzed. Quickly I dug into my pockets pulling out a floppy disk. Plugging it in, the screen loaded and it had hacked the system in a few seconds. Technology worth more than their small mansion. After everything downloaded I swiped the disk, plugging it into my wrist computer a little knick knack that Reid had fashioned for me, after it finished duplicating the files onto the watch I slid it back into my pocket. Using my claws to type I deleted all the files and wiped the computer. “Too bad we're finished here” Braxton spoke aloud causing me to jump out of the chair almost falling over. He was quiet when he wanted to be.

“Rendezvous back at HQ” Scion buzzed before the earpiece clicked off. Braxton’s stripes were illuminated orange. I unbuckled the tech watch tossing it to him, he caught it with ease

“Is this against protocol?” there was a smile in his voice and I replied with an equal smirk

“there is no protocol when working with a crime lord”

We were in the slums, a thin smog clouding the air. In the other centrals they we of looked like an outcast or a thug. Granted perhaps we were thugs. Expensive thugs. Either way here we looked like anyone else but a bit more advanced. Braxton treaded close to me as we passed a chain mail fence, people dressed in the same attire as us walking around and digging in the trash. Not for food, oh no never for food, just jewelry, or technology, they all donned gas masks but none as fancy as our sleek ones. Scion was in the lead a boy with dark hair and tan exotic skin his mask striped green, Aryss, next to me, a girl with wavy blonde frizzy hair like a mane and coal eyes hers was illuminated pink. At the end of the chain mail fence there was a large square pathway that led down to the sewers. Our kingdom.
