Chapter 34:
A Duck's Message
Shac sat on a couch while Zoyi continued to get some snacks in the kitchen. Now with a snack in her hands, she immediately went back and took a seat in front of Shac in the living room.
She handed him a cookie biscuit, “Do you like cookies?” she asked.
Shac picked the cookie from her hand, “Yeah, it’s fine.” he answered. He took a bite and looked at her, “So you’re Zoyi, right? I just wanted to make sure.”
“You’re cautious huh? Yeah, I’m Zoyi.” she answered, still pinching her nose.
“Hm…” he muttered, eating the whole cookie. “I hope you don’t mind me asking, but why are you holding your nose like that?”
“Oh, this? It’s because there’s something about your smell.” she answered.
Shac raised an eyebrow. “Do I smell?” he asked, smelling both of his underarms but wasn’t able to smell something. “I don’t think I’m that smelly.”
She chuckled. “Not that smell. I was talking about your smell as a cursed duck. It’s incredibly hard not to notice it. That’s the reason why I was able to know immediately that you’re coming.” she revealed.
“I’m not sure I can follow that. But are you telling me that I have a smell and you know that I’m coming from miles away?”
She nodded once. “Yeah, it’s a smell I’ve been inhaling for the past few days. It’s not entirely welcoming, and I hate it.” she said.
“Oh… is that so.” he replied, reaching for another cookie. “Can I get another one?”
“Sure, you can eat as many as you can.”
“Thanks.” he said, grabbing another piece. “Thanks for letting me in. I was wondering if I could ask you about some things, and I know you already knew what I wanted to ask.” he took a bite of the cookie. “I want to know if you knew what happened to my Mom.”
“That explains why you’re this smelly.” she muttered.
“Huh?”
What is she talking about?
“It seems like you’re not from here Shac, and it seems like I can’t answer your question anymore.”
Shac blinked, trying to process what she said. “What do you mean I’m not from here?”
“You’re the first person I encountered to have this strong and unpleasant smell.”
Shac immediately stood up, noticing the change in Zoyi’s tone. “I don’t think I’m getting what are you trying to say…” he muttered, slowly walking towards the exit.
“You don’t need to think about it deeply.” she said, her voice was serious. She slid a hand into her pocket.
Is she going to get something from her pocket? he thought, slowly walking back. He felt his stomach turning.
He forced a laugh awkwardly. “Hahaha… I don’t know about it.” he took another peek at her pocket.
Is that a—
Her hands flashed from her pocket. Then suddenly—
Zoyi then threw the scissors in Shac’s face. He barely had time to react but he instinctively raised his arms to block.
The pain exploded.
The blades of the scissors got buried in both of his palms.
“AHHH!!!” he screamed in pain, his hands were trembling as he tried to pull the scissor away.
Zoyi dashed.
He barely managed to separate both of his hands, and scissors remained pierced on his right hand.
But before he could react, she took the chance to punch him straight in the face.
Her fist slammed into his face, sending him flying in front of the door. His body slammed at the door.
SHIT… The pain throbbed in his hands.
“Z-zoyi…” he muttered, having a hard time to speak in pain.
“I’m sorry about this…” she whispered, slowly approaching Shac while he was lying on the floor.
FUCK!!!
IT HURTS!!!
He gritted his teeth, pushing the pain aside. Despite the pain, Shac took this chance to ready his arm.
Then Zoyi’s foot came closer.
Desperate, he wasted no time and jumped forward, grabbing her legs. “AGHHH!!!” he screamed.
With the back of the scissors on the back side of his right hand, he swung his fist, hitting her lower leg with the handle of the scissors.
“WHAT!?” she screamed in pain, losing her balance. She stumbled and crashed to her side.
Shac pushed himself up, breathing heavily. Zoyi was on her knees.
But before he could react, Zoyi tackled him to the door.
—WHAM!!!
“Kugh…” he gasped for air, and he tried delivering a barrage of punches. “AGHHHHHHH!!!!” he screamed, while Zoyi was still pushing his body against the door, pinning him in place.
With her head below his chin, Shac formed another fist with her left hand. With everything he had left, he drove his fist down, hitting the side of her face.
She clutched her head in pain, “—You” she muttered, but before she could recover, Shac pushed her away. “Ough…” she stumbled to her back.
NOW!!!
Shac hardened his palm, with the scissor still pierced in it. Then in a swift motion—SQUELCH!!!
The blades of the scissors pierced her left eye.
“AHHHHHHH!!!” she screamed in pain.
With the blade still pierced, he held Zoyi’s face with his palm and formed a fist in her left hand.
He drove another fist into her face, not once, not twice, but three times.
“AHHHH!!!” she held to Shac, screaming and holding him.
Because of the difficult position, he pulled out the scissors.
“AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!” she cried in pain.
With his hands, he shoved her head away and locked eyes with her.
Her right eye was tearing up.
Her left eye was bleeding up.
“U..gh…” she muttered, her grip was loosening.
Zoyi collapsed, falling to the floor.
He moved to move to the side, watching her as she stayed motionless.
“Agh…” The pain burned him, he looked at his right hand and realized that the scissors had pierced more deeply. He breathed aggressively, trying to control the pain.
SHIT. SHIT. SHIT.
He took a glance at Zoyi’s body and remained motionless, she was facing the floor while both of her arms were spread. The blood on his face spread out to the floor.
WHAT THE FUCK IS HAPPENING!!!??? He screamed in his thoughts, trying to make sense of the situation. Both of his hands were bleeding, being pierced by the scissors.
The blood… what should I do with this? Realizing that the bleeding was serious, he hurried to find something to close off the wound.
CRAP… WHERE’S THE FIRST AID!?
He frantically ran around Zoyi’s house, opening and tearing through drawers and cabinets, but he couldn’t find a single thing.
“Shit…” he bit his lips, wincing in pain. He looked at his right hand, where the scissor was still buried.
Should I pull it? No… that might just make it worse. He thought, looking at his left hand, where the scissors got pierced too. Luckily there’s only a small wound on it, unlike the other hand.
He went back to the exit and saw Zoyi’s body still lying there. For a moment he hesitated to move, staring at her with confusion.
Then he forced himself to move, opening the door. Without another thought, with the scissors still pierced on his hand, he decided to leave her behind in that state.
“Shit…” he whispered as he stepped outside, his breath trembling. His face twisted in confusion and fear.
What did I just do… A tear fell down his cheek.
× Author's Note ×
Phewww… This is the first time I wrote a fight scene. I hope it successfully managed to capture the brutal intensity I wanted to show.
The series have been moving at a slow pace, and I wanted to shake things up a bit. It took a while to build up to this, and after 30 chapters of calmness (calmness of death) I‘m glad I finally was able to write a fight scene.
