Chapter 35:
A Duck's Message
Even though Shac feels conflicted about hurting someone, he doesn’t have any other choice but to run away.
He ran away, escaping from Zoyi’s house. Without looking back, and only running with the thought of escaping her, he sprinted away from the house. Normally it would tire him easily, but the curse changed the way he breathed, and because of this, he couldn’t find himself losing his breath.
Why? Why? Why? He asked himself, confused, and eager to know the reason for Zoyi’s assault.
Why would she attack me!? WHY!?
He continued to ask himself, but still couldn’t think of any reason. How would he be able to know about such a thing? All he knew was that for some reason Zoyi attacked him suddenly, and there was no other explanation for it.
“FUCK!!!” he shouted, his voice echoing in the middle of the night.
This was not the night he was expecting to have.
He looked at his hands.
SHIT!!! He screamed in pain as both of his hands were bleeding continuously. But despite that, he didn’t stop sprinting, with the only goal of heading straight home.
As he was feeling the pain, his eyes suddenly lightened up, realizing that he is getting closer to his home. He felt relieve just by only seeing the home, and now, with all of his remaining strength he dashed forward.
Then he arrived at the front of the house. Because of how the curse changed his body, it didn’t take too long for him to reach home. And surprisingly, he didn’t feel the need to take a breather, immediately heading inside the home.
He knocked on the door, and shouted, “Dad!!! Open the door!!!”
Now that he loosened up a bit, the pain finally caught up. He gritted his teeth as the pain started to hurt more. “Agh…..” he groaned in pain.
The door opened.
“It’s already nigh—” his dad paused and ran towards him. “What happened to you?” he asked, holding Shac’s hands.
“I’ll explain it later. I need help with this wound first.” he replied, heading inside the house.
Without another word, his dad pulled him inside and rushed to get the first aid kit. He then went back to Shac to check the wounds properly.
“What’s this? It went deep…” he said.
“I was stabbed. With a scissors.” Shac answered. “It went fast, I didn’t even know what to say, it happened so fast.”
“I got it.” he said, pulling Shac to the sink to clean the wounds. “Wash it first.”
Shac followed his instructions and cleaned both of his hands in the running water. He couldn’t help but blinked and clenched his teeth in pain. “Agh…..”
The remaining drops of blood continuously flushed down the sink.
“Tell me what happened.” his dad said, worried and confused.
Shac turned to his dad. “It was Zoyi, she stabbed me with scissors.”
His dad frowned. “She stabbed you with scissors? Why would she do that?”
Shac chuckled softly, still in pain. “I don’t know… It happened so suddenly, I still can’t process what happened.”
“Okay okay…” he replied, handing a soap to Shac. “Don’t forget to clean it with soap.”
A soap… Shac thought, staring at his dad and hesitating to use the soap.
His dad blinked, noticing that Shac was hesitating. “It’s just a soap. It’s much worse if your wound got infected.”
“I-I know.” he said, grabbing the soap. But despite saying that, a part of him is still hesitating. He took a deep breath before scrubbing the soap in his hands. Slowly, he scrubs it while clenching his teeth in pain.
Bear with it, bear with it, bear with it. He repeatedly told himself, trying his best to act calm and endure the pain.
After a minute of cleaning his wound in the running water he went back to the living room to take a seat. He looked at his palms, each with wound, but his right hand is in much more worst state.
“Shit… How was she able to do this…” he whispered, looking at his right hand with its small hole wound, where the scissors pierced. His hand continued to tremble, constantly causing sharp pain, and slowly starting to feel numb.
“Open your hand.” his dad instructed, holding a disinfectant. “Bear with it.”
His dad slowly applied the disinfectant around Shac’s wound and a bit inside the wound. He couldn’t help but wince in pain, as the sting shot him the moment the disinfectant touched the wound.
“Do you know something about it?” he asked his dad.
“Are you talking about Zoyi?” he asked back.
Shac nodded. “Do you have any idea about it?”
He shook his head, just finished disinfecting the wound. “Not something I knew about. I do know her personally, but I didn’t expect her to stab you with a scissor.”
“I see.” Shac muttered.
His dad brought out the gauze and the bandage, first covering the wound with gauze before wrapping both of his hands in bandages. “That should be it.” he said, standing up in front of him.
He looked at his hands. “Thanks, Dad.”
“No problem. But you need to tell me everything that happened.” he said, taking a seat in front of Shac. “I didn’t expect you to come home with a hole in your hand.”
“I know… I didn’t expect that too…” he whispered, still couldn’t believe what happened. “I ran as fast as I could away from her house just to escape from her. The only thing I could think of at that moment was to run away.”
“What exactly happened? Did she suddenly stab you with a scissor?” his dad asked.
Shac shook his head. “No, but she did threaten me as soon as I stood in front of her home. She suddenly appeared behind me and pointed the scissor on my neck, threatening me and wondering if I was an enemy.”
His dad frowned. “An enemy?”
Shac shrugged, he was also unaware of what it meant. “I have no idea what she meant by that. I told her I wanted to ask if she knew about what happened to Mom. She did let me in, even handing me some cookies to eat. But I wasn’t even able to ask her about Mom.” he explained, pausing to take a breathe.
“She said something odd. That I was smelly, that I had this unpleasant smell she hadn’t encountered before. Then before I could even process everything, she threw a scissor straight to my head.” he continued, turning to his right hand. “That’s the reason why I got this small hole.”
His dad froze, still processing his story.
Shac chuckled softly in disbelief. “I can’t believe that she was able to pierce a hole in my right hand.”
