Chapter 8:

The Human Experience

The Prince of the Otherworld becomes a Highschool Student

The bright sun shone its beams onto the skin of the young Prince Iscodaya, his face was calm, but deep inside, he was stressed. Yesterday, his classmate, a girl named Kei, invited him to go with her to find something called a phone.

When Iscodaya told Kaus, he encouraged his Prince to go and find out more about the outside world with someone who knows it. So the young Prince went, wearing a white shirt and black pants, only going with a money storing item called a wallet.

Iscodaya waited on a bench, about a few blocks away from his apartment. His eyes took in the sight of everyday people walking around, a sight he wasn’t used to. “Kaus probably wanted me to go so that I would actually go outside,” the young Prince thought.

But cutting through his thoughts like a knife, a girl approached him. It was Kei, wearing long black pants, and a white shirt with a thin jacket over the top. On her head was a beige sun hat, on her face were white circle-framed glasses, and she had a white purse around her hand. The sight of her made Iscodaya’s heart skip a little.

“Hey, sorry if I kept you waiting,” Kei remarked, putting the metal rectangular thing called a phone into her bag. Hearing this, Iscodaya shook his head.

“No, no, it wasn’t too long,” he explained. But as he stood up, Kei took a good look at his appearance. Seeing this, the young Prince tilted his head, “Is there~ anything wrong?” He asked.

Kei put a hand on her chin as she made a look Iscodaya couldn’t understand, “Nothing, it’s just that… is that all you have in your closet?” Hearing her question, Iscodaya thought of the clothes he had brought.

“Yeah, basically,” he truthfully replied, causing Kei to sigh.

“Alright… no fault in that,” she murmured. But as they finished their introductions, Kei pulled out her phone, and not a moment later, “Alright, let’s go, shall we?” She remarked as she led the way.

Iscodaya was walking right beside her, still trying to get used to her appearance. But as she turned to him, he had to summon every muscle in his face to keep a straight face, “You still don’t know too much about phones, right?” She innocently asked.

It took Iscodaya a few seconds to open his mouth, “Y-yes.” As Kei heard this, she pulled out her phone and came closer to Iscodaya. For the next few minutes, Kei told Iscodaya about all the features there were to a phone. And as a result, the quiet, brooding Iscodaya, became like that of a child.

“N-n-no way! Can it do that?” He stuttered, his eyes wide open with excitement. Kei, watching him react like this, couldn’t help but smile.

“So he can be cute?” She thought. But as they approached the phone store, Kei remembered something, “So~ have you decided to buy a phone?” She asked, leading for Iscodaya to nod excitedly, “I see, but I do have to warn you, some of them do cost a lot.”

Hearing this, Iscodaya’s excited face turned into that of his normal, plain look, making Kei kinda regret saying anything. “I see, well, how much does yours cost?”

“Well, it went for a pretty considerable amount.” But as Kei was remembering the price of her phone, Iscodaya brought out his wallet.

“Would this be enough?” He asked, showing Kei the money in it. Her eyes widened as she saw Iscodaya’s money.

“Wh- are you a son of a king!?!” She asked in disbelief. Instantly, Iscodaya began to panic.

“H-has she caught on? No, I think it’s just a saying here. I need to stay composed,” he reassured himself. But outside of his mind, Iscodaya’s face didn’t change; all he did was merely sigh, “I guess so from your reaction,” he jokingly replied.

But sensing her questions, Iscodaya made up a fake story at the stop. Saying how his family has been providing good money for his and Kaus’ education, a reason Kei fell for. As they entered the building, Kei called for an assistant to help them buy a phone for Iscodaya. It took an hour of learning what phones can’t and can do for Iscodaya to finally buy one.

When they finally left, Iscodaya marveled at the technology, “Crazy how this is made all without magic,” he said to himself. But as he was experimenting with all the features, Kei took his phone, going to the camera app, she took a picture of both of them.

“Here, your first picture is with the person to introduce you to phones,” she giggled, causing Iscodaya to get flustered within. But as she also took a picture of both of them in her phone, she began to look around, “So~ where to next?” She asked, causing the young Prince to get a bit confused.

“What do you mean?” He asked, causing Kei to be shocked.

“You mean to tell me that you went with me to an outing without the intention of hanging out?” She pouted, making Iscodaya break eye contact due to embarrassment. “Well, even if you didn’t know, we’ll be hanging for a few hours. I didn’t wear this clothing just to get one thing,” she huffed as she grabbed Iscodaya’s arm.

The young Prince was dragged into a cafe, where the two ordered a coffee with Kei adding a sandwich to her order. Iscodaya and Kei peacefully drank their beverage, with the young Prince actually enjoying himself.

The two were talking, with Kei mostly driving the conversation. But Iscodaya shocked himself with how much he actually spoke, “I just hope Kaus doesn’t get too worried, I told him that I would be back right about now.”

Hearing this, Kei warmly smiled, “You have a pretty close relationship with that guy, huh?” She asked, causing Iscodaya to roll his eyes as he rested on his chin, with his fingers hiding his mouth.

“Well, he’s an idiot,” he openly stated. But as his gaze shifted to the outside, Kei saw a sparkle in his eyes, “An idiot who sticks with people even if they are insufferable.” Hearing this, Kei chuckled.

But truthfully, in her heart, she also knew a person like that. A silence came over the two as they continued to drink their coffee. But as Kei took a look at Iscodaya’s clothes again, she yet again sighed.

“You know what, I know a place to go after this.” As the two finished their drinks, Kei led Iscodaya to another establishment, a bigger one with a lot more people, “Oh yeah, time to make you a prince.”

Iscodaya slightly twitched at her wording, but yet again kept his composure. Kei explained how this was a place to buy new clothing, and she was planning to give him a new makeover.

The two went clothes shopping, as Iscodaya was impressed with the selection of clothing. Iscodaya had a slight fascination with fashion around Eon, making it his hobby to try new stuff on. So, as he saw Earth also had a vast array of clothing, his excitement could be seen.

Iscodaya’s dumb smile and wide eyes were seen by Kei, and her stare was one Iscodaya felt, so he turned to her. As to be polite, Kei smiled at Iscodaya, and it was that smile that took Iscodaya right off his feet.

And seeing a woman so marvelous, his instincts kicked in: “Beautiful.”
