Chapter 1:

The Rise of the Crimson Moon

Crimson Moon: Blood Fest

"Another dreadful day" Irene thought to herself as she forced her torso out of bed to get to school. She lost her parents at a young age and was raised by her aunt Lucy, she didn't have any hobbies nor did she have any interest in life. Her only goal at the moment was to graduate high school. She ate the breakfast her aunt left for her before she left for work and dragged herself to school.

As she walked through the halls of her school and found her way to her classroom she was met with a jump hug from behind and a familiar voice

"Ireneeee why do you look so gloomy today as well, cheer up!"

It was her only friend Yuuki, he was always cheery and outgoing, he knew everyone at school. "Hah, how many times must I tell you to not do that" Irene said with a cold tone yet it was one of the very few things that lit a flame of warmth within her. With a slight smile she pulled him along with her to their homeroom.

In simple words Irene was a prodigy, her analytical and cerebral skills surpassed that of any average human, even that would be an understatement. She never paid attention to class yet  was always at the top of her school. It was because of this, that she met Yuuki. During their sophomore year Yuuki marched up to her out of nowhere and requested her to tutor him, because well bluntly he was a ditz. She stared at him coldly and refused, yet he didn't give up, he in all essence begged her every single day, something about his sunlit attitude made her cave in eventually and she began tutoring him. This became their daily routine, they would go Irene's place everyday after school and she'd help him understand things by bringing it down to his level.

it was November 11 of the year 2011, Irene and Yuuki were about to go the Irene's home as usual but Yuuki stopped for a minute, "Hey Irene, do you wanna see something really cool?" he asked, Irene being as indifferent as ever replied with "Do as you wish". Yuuki's face lit up and he brazenly dragged Irene with him to a hilltop, the walk was long and the sun began to set. Finally they reached their destination, Moon Lake Hill.

Yuuki smiled at Irene and said, "I heard the moon today is gonna really pretty". Irene chuckled and replied "Alright we'll see". The moon shone a bright white, it was mesmerizing, Yuuki was completely lost in its beauty but Irene felt uncomfortable, she felt an eerie sensation which she couldn't shake off.

"Roxana?" Irene flinched as she heard an unfamiliar voice. "Who's there?" Irene shouted, Yuuki looked at her concerned, "Irene, there's no one here" he said. "Ah, so that's the case" The voice continued, Irene turned back to see the lake behind her glowing, being the rational and quick thinker she was, realized that the voice was coming from the lake and kept her composure. "Disaster is about to fall my child. You and your friend hold these crystals with you at all times, I cannot stay here any longer, may the blessing of the light guide your way. But remember one thing *his tone turning serious* Do. Not. Trust. Anyone. Believe only in your own instincts" The voice said before fading into a deep silence. "Yuuki something is wrong, we have to leav-" A scythe struck them before she could finish her sentence but something similar to a barrier protected them. Yuuki was frozen from shock, Irene noticed that they both had white crystals shaped like tear drops in their hands. "YUUKI" she screamed at the top of her lungs "Snap out of it, we have to leave" she said as she pulled him and ran. In the distance she saw two creatures resembling angels wearing blindfolds and carrying scythes in their hands, flying with wings white as the moon. "I-Irene look at the moon" Yuuki said, Irene snapped back instantly as she stared into the sky, she saw a moon so red, a red so dark it looked as though it was bleeding from pain. "pretty" she muttered to herself, "w-what? Yuuki said Irene finally noticed Yuuki's state, he was in tears and trembling from fear, barely standing. She held his head against her shoulder "It's fine, everything will be fine. just do what I say".

They both ran back into town and Yuuki fell to his knees at the sight of what was unfolding. Everyone was being slaughtered, not a single soul was spared. Irene knew as long as they had the crystals they would be safe. She picked Yuuki up and started sprinting to her home, she knew that her aunt and Yuuki's mom were having dinner together, she was worried about them.

She took a deep breath before entering her home, it was dark and she could feel her footsteps and heartbeat resonate and finally there she stood at the sight of her aunt and Yuuki's mother sliced in half. Irene was always emotionless, seeing this didn't bring her to tears but she did feel sad because she loved her aunt, she felt as though her entire world was breaking down yet she couldn't cry, she just stared at their corpses.

The sound of screams echoed

Elizabeth, Irene's cousin was being approached by one of the angelic creature she saw earlier. In that moment Irene felt something in her snap but so did something awaken. A dagger of light appeared in her hand, and she made a split second judgement. She sprinted towards Elizabeth and placed the crystal in her hand, she pushed her aside along with Yuuki who was still in tears. She knew that the both of them would be safe as long as they kept the crystals.

"Who are you?" Irene asked the creature. The creature replied "I am a Lesser Demon, a Chronolite who serves the Queen of the Night".

Irene had never fought anyone before but, in that moment at the depth of her soul all she wanted was to give the demon standing before her a death that couldn't be explained by mere words such a pain. She felt strength pulsing through her entire body and in what you could say what less than a tenth of a second she slaughtered her enemy with her dagger, making a thousand cuts.

Sensing the fall of one of their brethren the rest of the Chronolites began to gather towards Irene. "Hah, what is this feeling, my aunt just died, Elizabeth and Yuuki are in tears and everyone outside is screaming and being slaughtered, and I can sense thousands of those demons approaching me, yet I, I-"

Before Irene could finish processing everything she was met with a crowd of demons all aiming for for life

A deep silence fell only to broken by Irene beheading one of the Chronolites

She laughed, a laugh so hysterical, something that would scare even the devil, because for the first time in her entire life she felt meaning, she who had no experience in combat was slaughtering thousands of demons while laughing like a maniac, her battle prowess and instinct was unmatched, she didn't falter, she kept fighting until dawn

At dawn the demons disappeared back to the realm of the night and there stood Irene soaked in blood still laughing from the excitement of the battle

How will the humans get through another night...?
