Chapter 12:

Program Herod

Face of Eternity : The Journey of a Little Angel

-VIRUS DETECTED-

-...-

-Program Herod in effect. Termination of Yalda Asamo is now mandated-

That message dominated my field of view, as well the screen of the TCC. It was broadcast throughout the whole tower and outside too.

It was a virus, and it went out over the airways. My immune system bravely fought it off with ease, but all the bees within a kilometer were forced now to try and take me out...and not to the ball game!

Oh God…please don’t let this be happening! I don’t want to die…

“You can’t do this!" I argued with her. "Why would you want to hurt innocent people and me!?”

"Innocent? How many people have you actually met before? Two… Three at most? You couldn’t possibly know that with how few you’ve ever seen." The room somehow turned darker, only the red glow of the bees hovering in the air illuminated it. “And don’t use your father as an example, because he has more sins on his hands than any of us…”

How dare she disrespect her own creator like that?! Dad was the kindest person I’d ever known! He made me, for goodness sake.

“Destroy her heart, then she will die,” TCC ordered the bees.

The many bees in the room raced at me, each preparing their energy based weapons to attack me.

Lasers shot all over. I ran around the room dodging them, only just barely escaping the light show storm.

“Oh no!”

My luck ran out, and a shot hit me.

*ZAP!*

The shot reflected off my armour skin and cut a hole through the metal wall. It still stung a little!

“Switch to blunting weapons,” TCC ordered.

The bees flew at me at full speed!

One of them slammed into me, knocking me back.

-Armour integrity = (100%)-

“Ouchy!”

It hurt a lot, but my body held strong, just like I was designed.

“Your Ferronium skin is nothing if not durable. I suppose I’ll need more drastic measures to insure your termination.”

She commanded the bees to attack again, this time force activating their overclock mode to increase their power levels, but they all stopped moving despite her orders.

The bee that hit me started blinking red and white very fast. It flew up into the air away from me, then…

*BOOM!*

...it exploded! The remains came down to the floor in cinders.

“What is this?” TCC asked herself. “I believed my virus had overwritten their self-destruct protocol.”

"Self-destruct protocol?"

I thought that was only supposed to activate when one of the commandments were broken. Too bad TCC didn't have that, apparently.

All of the other bees that saw what happened remained idle. They didn’t want the same fate that the other did due to defying the Third Commandment of self-preservation. But which commandment was broken in the first place when I was hurt?

"-The Fourth Commandment has been violated!-" One of the bees announced in a male robotic tone.

Another female sounding bee joined in, saying, "-We must not allow Mistress Yalda to come to harm!-"

Woah, hold the phone! A secret Fourth Commandment, all about protecting me? I didn't have that one in my list.

Wait, wouldn't it just be the Third Commandment in my case, since it was about self-preservation? Huh...

Anyways, that fourth one would explain why the bee self-destructed after it hurt me. It sinned, and self destruction was its punishment.

The remaining five bees changed into a purple colour and turned on the TCC, then started to attack her instead!

In response, the TCC summoned a new batch of constructs and they started fighting each other. It was a family feud, if I ever saw one.

The door behind me opened up for some reason. I didn't know why, and I sure wasn't going to question it.

I bolted out of there so fast I could have sworn I heard those cartoony running sounds. Feet, don't fail me now!

From the hallway windows, I could see millions of bees were flying around the tower. They were swarming so much that they almost looked like a terrifying stream of blood coursing through the air.

-Enemy count = (40,353,607)-

There were a lot of bees coming after me. Excuse my language... But holy crap was I in deep trouble!

Thanks to the transparent nature of glass, that swarm quickly spotted me, heading for the open windows in the hallway.

There was no jammer anymore, so I had authority over the tower. I rose up some of the defensive glass windows as a result. Those things were starship grade glass. No way was there any chance a bumble bee construct would be able to break through them.

But that swarm of red still tried, throwing themselves at the side of the tower with fantastic physical force...causing the whole thing to rumble violently! As one bee hit the glass, he’d reel back to let another slam into it as well.

Thunderous strikes continued to clash against the glass, but not so much as a crack pierced it. I was safe for the moment.

“Oh Yalda…” The TCC spoke over the intercom. “Do you not realize this tower is my body, and that you are trapped in it?”

“Uh-oh!”

The glass walls started to lower. I ran as fast as I could, stumbling over my short legs before the first bee flew in.

A tidal wave of constructs followed, all of them were ready to take me out.

I was barely able to sneak into a security passageway. It was just big enough for me, but too slim for the chunky bumble bees.

Shimmying my way through, I had to turn on my night vision to see where I was going. Good thing I wasn't afraid of tight spaces, or this would be another layer of torture.

“Even here, you are not safe.” TCC spoke over the intercom again.

Suddenly the walls of the security passageway started to close in on me, I was going to be squished!

I moved faster trying to get through, I didn’t want to be an angel pancake. I didn't even have any syrup on me!

Just before the walls slammed together I managed to slip out of the passageway and was let out into a big hangar bay.

There were a few paths that looked like a promising way out of here, especially one huge hangar door to the outside, but all of my exits were closing fast.

I fruitlessly ran down to the center of the room, trying to head for one of the doors before they closed. I was seconds too late every time.

With the little bit of my mind that hadn't been consumed with dread, I attempted to use my admin powers to get a door open, but the TCC was just blocking everything I tried.

Oh no, what am I going to do?

Suddenly, the hangar door opened again. I shouldn't have gotten my hopes up at all, because just outside was something big and very scary.

One of the most powerful types of bees hovered in from the hangar bay door, ready to attack with its large arms. It was called a Hornet Assault Bee, or a H.A.B. It’s the size of a fighter jet and as armoured up as a tank. It had huge claw-like arms, stinger missiles on the end of its abdomen and laser eyes.

All of those weapons aimed at me now...
