Chapter 5:

Chapter 5

Love Beyond Worlds

Now that we understand how the item transport works, I can give her some supplies.

“I have conflicted feelings about this…”

Elerina was in the middle of eating a cup of instant noodles I made for her.

“Is it not good?”

“No… it's like fake diamonds. Fake, but looks great. Well, in this case, it looks great, but tastes fake. I’m not a fan of it. Does it use a lot of magic to be made?”

“I wouldn't call it magic, necessarily, but it's full of artificial stuff.”

That artificial stuff is among the reasons it’s so popular here, though, along with the fact that it’s cheap. Elves must live a healthy life.

“Guess I better get used to eating this.”

“N- no, don't worry! I'll learn cooking, that way, you can eat delicious stuff!” I declared. She lifted her head, staring at me with surprise.

“You'll go that far?”

“I'm- I'm your husband, after all.”

Her eyes sparkled. “Thank you!”

It was still early in the morning. The stores hadn't opened yet, and while my apartment has a kitchen, I never tried cooking. I wouldn't be able to do anything until then.

Elerina finished the noodles and gave the cup back to me. I threw it into the trash.

“I'll need to start moving. Are you planning anything?”

Since we were stuck together, our testing gave us just a meter. Her being in a fight with me going on my day is extremely risky, especially since her sword could hit me as long as she was holding it. I mean, just me being behind her is already dangerous.

“I'll just take the day off.”

There goes my perfect attendance, but my wife is way more important in this case. I took my phone and sent a message to Frederick, telling him that I wouldn't be coming to university.

[That's rare. What excuse do you want?]

My professor for today's morning classes was harsh, and he wouldn't give anyone sick leave unless they had a doctor's note, so there's no point.

[Just tell him I have something sudden to do.]

[You owe me one.]

He didn't even need to say anything. I'm not owing him anything.

Elerina had begun moving. Seeing her sneak, run, and fight in my room looked weird. I could see her sword swinging, yellow blood spattered on it, but I couldn't see what it hit. It would occasionally go through the bed or the wall, but it simply went past, as those things don't exist in the middle dimension, hence it couldn’t be affected.

The earliest I can get instant shipping is at eight, I guess I'll just gather the stuff for now.

I would still need to wait before I could sell that cup, but once I do, it depends on how much of a price I can fetch. It still feels wrong to sell something so important, but we need that money for the supplies.

As I stayed away from her, letting her do her thing, while reviewing products I would need.

We'll need a phone, two action cameras, and one power bank.

That way, we could watch each other's world. None of those things were cheap, and we couldn't just buy any cheap ones. The phone needed to be durable and have long battery life, while the powerbank needed to be capable of fast charging with a high capacity. The action camera needed to be at least clear enough.

All this needed to stick to her body in one way or the other. If it hindered her movements, then there's no point, and if it falls during a fight, we'll have to consider it lost. There's no way I'm letting her risk herself by picking it up.

Assuming that cup is real gold…

Even if it wasn't, the beautiful decorations on its side would allow it to fetch maybe thirty or fifty thousand Rupiah, not a small amount. If it's real gold…

Just imagining it's worth made my head spin.

But there's a chance it's not real gold.

I need to remain realistic. There's a chance Elerina's mistaken, or worse, lying. I couldn't check it now, since I put it away and I didn't want to disturb her, but when I recall touching it…

Its texture, its weight, all feel like real gold. I had my doubts about what I have gotten myself into, but when I look at her, there's just a huge desire to help.

And she really is adorable. Despite her cold expression when she fought, her dirtied body, everything.

“Hmm?”

She noticed me staring at her, but before she could say anything, her eyes darted back to the foe in front of her. She brought her sword horizontally in front of her face. I could see the sword shaking, but I couldn’t hear its sound. It’s rather bizarre, honestly.

She gritted her teeth and pushed whatever it was away. She wiped a sweat off her forehead.

“Are you alright?” I asked.

“I'm fine!” She rushed in, her sword pointing forward. It stabbed through, blood splattered all over her. She pulled it away, and ignoring just how dirty herself was, she ran.

Her moves were frighteningly quick and efficient. It reminded me of all those fight scenes I watched in anime. If anything, this one is even crazier, because someone real is doing the fighting.

I couldn’t hear the repeated strikes. The sound of whatever thing she found didn't make it through. A good ten minutes or so passed before things finally calmed down. She panted heavily. A part of her armor had been bent, blood dripping from a wound on her shoulder. I came over, bringing her a large bottle of water.

“Thank you.”

She chugged down the one and half litre of water like it was nothing. I gave her some energy bars as well.

“Your world… sure is… convenient.”

“Are you alright?”

She nodded. “I'm fine… just a bit… tired.”

As she snack on the energy bar, I looked through my first aid boxes. There were wounds all over her, and I wasn't sure if normal human medicine would work on her.

“There is no need to be worried,” she said. “These are nothing. I'll get them patched up when I return to the city.”

“Are you sure? You don't want at least bandages?”

“It's alright.” She waved her hand. “I've survived worse before.” She then looked at a distance before shaking her head.

“What are you looking at?”

She extended her hand. I gave her the tablet. What appeared on my phone’s screen was the ruins of a massive city. A single tower stood in its center, its walls had holes all over them.

“Woah…”

“Most of the elven cities and towns are located deep within the forest, but other species aren't as used to dense forests.”

“So that city's built on the plains?”

“Yes. It used to connect the various nations together, an intersection of sorts.”

The once proud city had been turned to rubble. I could see small dots roaming around it, most likely monsters. She returned the tablet to me.

“Time to move.”

“Alright.”

Despite her exhaustion, she still had enough strength to run. I went and sat back down on my back. Since the bed didn’t exist in the middle dimension, she phased right through.

Putting some distance between her back and mine, I took a towel.

“Can you slow down for a bit?”

“Yes?”

She slowed down to walking speed. I put the towel on top of her and began slowly rubbing her head.

“Wh- what are you doing?”

“It's hot, right? You're sweating.”

“You do- don't have to.”

“It's alright. Don't worry about me. If you can run, run.”

“Alright.”

She increased her speed once more.
