Chapter 10:

Abandoned object

The other side of the end

The boat reached the island. Everyone on the boat got off it and onto the shore. Lien walked carefully along the shore. He stopped and carefully began to examine the island. It was not large. And most of it was occupied by a metal fence, behind which nothing could be seen.

Everyone who entered the island silently watched the closed object. Nix turned to Kelis. - "Command!".

Kelis himself did not know what to expect, but it was he who had to make the decision. Kelis looked at the signs posted all over the island. The signs said „Passage prohibited! You are in a closed area protected by the Big Ten Association.”

- "After this, there will be no way back for us. So think carefully," - said Kelis.

Everyone present looked at Kelis, looked at the hanging signs, and at the object itself, which they were supposed to penetrate.

Kelis went ahead, to the object. And everyone, without exception, followed him.

When they approached the fence, the security system was triggered. On the towers of the metal fence were automated security turrets. As soon as they approached the fence, they activated and homed themselves to everyone who approached.

The team that arrived on the island froze abruptly.

- “What the hell is this?” - asked Tera.

- “Calm down! This is a combat module. It works strictly according to protocol,” - answered Nix.

- “And which one?” - asked Tera.

- “It might activate when we touch the fence. Or maybe when we take even one more step,” - answered Nix.

- “Really?… Great!” - Tera said dissatisfiedly.

Fearlessly and indifferently, Eno stepped forward. He left everyone behind, and slowly walked towards the entrance door. The others could only look at each other in surprise.

Kelis followed Eno. Nix looked back at them with satisfaction and, nodding to his people, also followed forward. Lien, Tera and Axel also followed to the entrance.

Lien looked at the security turrets that were returning after him and the other team members.

When Eno and Kelis approached the entrance, they saw a door in front of them, the access panel on which had already managed to gather dust, behind which nothing could be seen.

Eno began to wipe the access panel. Behind the layer of dust, a touch screen began to be visible, on which it was necessary to enter the access key.

- "Here is a door thirty centimeters thick..., you will have to fiddle for a long time" - said Nix.

Eno began to enter the access key. The key consisted of twenty characters. So Eno typed them for a long time. When Eno finished, he pressed the confirmation button, but the message „Invalid key! Enter the key again or move away from the door” appeared.

All available security turrets within range of the entrance, activated and aimed at the entrance. And on the touch screen itself, above the window with buttons, a one-minute countdown timer appeared.

Eno thought for a moment and began to enter the access key again. The first character, the second character, the third character. Everyone present looked in fear from the panel to the automated turrets.

- “This is not how I imagined my last minute, boss,” - one of Nix’s people said.

However, Nix was also worried and did not understand what was happening. He looked at Kelis.

- “Kelis?” - Nix asked nervously.

Kelis was calm.

- "Patience, Nicks," - Kelis replied calmly.

Nix and everyone else present could only wait silently for Eno to enter the access key. Eno pressed the confirmation button. Again, an error message appeared in the entered key. And there were only twenty seconds left on the timer.

Eno thought again and began to enter the key again. There were seven seconds left, six seconds. Everyone began to get nervous and afraid that these were their last seconds. The timer showed five seconds. Eno pressed the confirmation button. A check mark appeared on the display. The door opened.

Everyone present looked inside in surprise. Then, their gazes were directed at Eno.

- "But should at least one of us have access to this object?" - Nix asked in surprise.

Eno silently went inside. As soon as he took a step into the room, the corridor of the facility automatically lit up all the way to the end.

However, Eno did not step any further. He stopped.

- “I can’t give any more advice,” - said Eno.

Nix took the lead and, aiming his weapon forward, began to enter the corridor. His men followed him, along with Lien, Tera, Axel, and Kelis.

After passing through the corridor, the team found themselves in the command center. It was filled with computer equipment designed to collect and analyze data. However, it was all covered in dust and had not been turned on for a long time.

- “How many years has no one been here?” Axel asked.

Kelis lifted the switch at the entrance to the room. The power began to flow into the command center. All the computers and equipment turned on.

Kelis went to the electrical panel and began to peer into it.

Lien went to the shelf with notes made by scientists who had worked there before. One of the reports that Lien pulled out was called „Changes in Tectonic Plates in the Period from 1980 to 2000”.

Lien began flipping through the pages of the report. He stared in surprise at the notes that were there. Lien began to read out some sentences from the report. - “During the eighteenth experiment, the impact on the continent was more noticeable… The changes that were recorded at the end of one of the continents coincided with the recorded time… Control of the changes is unlikely…”

- “We don’t have time for this,” - said Eno.

Lien didn’t even notice Eno coming towards him. Lien had to put the reports back on the shelf.

At this time, Kelis was trying to read the markings on the switches in the electrical panel. But, deciding to save time, he simply began to lift all the switches in the panel up.

The lights came on in the neighboring rooms.

- “Oh my God… Look at this…” - Tera said in surprise.

One of the rooms was divided by transparent glass. When the light turned on, it became clear what was behind it. In front of the team was a view of a huge room that was built around a large chasm that led down.
