Chapter 4:

Take the Stage

Idol Mind

Just as entrant number 19 was called, Amelie emerged from the stadium change room in a sky blue dress, the hemp bag in hand. Her white ankle boots made small noises on the concrete as she rushed to take her position on the round part of the keyhole stage-

...her head began to swim as her ice-blue eyes darted in all directions, taking in the faces of the scattered audience as nausea began to crawl up her throat. The expectancy was almost like an anvil wth its force, almost causing her to forget her objective and get swept up in her nerves. Once she was able to grab ahold of herself, she focussed on a space in front of her which had a lot of empty seats, all made of the same maroon plastic.

However, when she concluded Desiree was not in the audience (judging by how Quartz described the female fairy), she took a deep breath and began to sing:

When you're hurt and down, I will find you.

"Louder!" some of the audience cried. She almost screamed the next note, but then the note afterwards helped her hit her stride.

You know better than I'll ever know, we've never met eye to eye.
So whether I'm dreaming or not, make sure you wait.
Only faith in ourselves and others can provide what we need, so hey.

Let's go to where the impossible happens,
we'll never know if we never try.
Become one with the earth and the stars,
and I'll find you.

Miss me yet? I'm sure you don't.
It seems like in some other time,
some other place, we'd never meet.
A chance encounter comes once a lifetime!

The truth is much closer than you'll ever know.
Between hurting and tears, there will always be hope.
Whether standing under the stars or dissolving to earth,
I will always be able to find you.

Let's go to where the impossible happens,
we'll never know if we never try.
Become one with the earth and the stars,
and I'll find you.

Amelie's legs gave out from underneath her as she panted with the heavy sweat of success. Her feet ached from making up dance moves on the fly, she'd stumbled over some words and she was surely not going to win anyway, so there was no use in worrying anymore.

However, there was still a problem - where was that missing fairy?
