Chapter 1:

「It Seems I'm the Saint」

The ill-Fate of the Reincarnated Saint 「生まれ変わった聖人の不運」

I woke up one day in a different world. In an unknown, broken down house. In an unrecognizable body. To a mother crying for her child who she thought died. Except that child was me....?

My eyes unconsciously moved to look at her her. I saw her shaking hands, tears fresh in her eyes. She spoke and seemed to say something.

I wasn't listening. I was a lot more concerned about my current situation than what she had to say. What happened to me? The last thing I could remember is going home after my part-time job. I was crossing the road when the bright lights of a car rushed towards me. Did I die? This was obviously not a hospital and this wasn't even my body in the first place.

Was this heaven, hell, some kind of reincarnation? Or maybe just a hallucination before death?

If it was, it sure didn't seem like it was ending any time soon.

There wasn't much I could do. All I could do was accept that fact that I had somehow become a powerless little girl in a random village in a strange place.

I tried to ask around the village, searching for any clues about this child's life. I couldn't find a shred of information, there didn't even seem to be any other children who interacted with this girl. I suppose this family didn't have the best relationships with their neighbors.

Out of what little information I had, I did figure out was that this place was definitely not Earth, or at least the Earth I was originally from at least. There were no signs of the technology of phones, DVDs or even cars. There seemed to be electricity in some of the better looking houses, but there were no power lines to anything of the sort, I couldn't figure out where the electricity was from.

There wasn't really much to do, though I was asked to help with a few chores by my mother. It wasn't a pleasant experience, I've never had to overcome the obstacles of poverty in my past life. There was never quite enough food and to bathe we needed to carry water from the river. Not to mention this world was an aristocratic one, which I figured out when I accidentally made the mistake to ask a what seems to be an outcast noble.

Little to say, I was yelled at for being an impertinent commoner and even slapped in the face, followed by that I even heard the noble mumbling about making his hands filthy. Although I was in the body of a child, I've already lived once, I wasn't such a child that I would cry about it. His actions made sense if I thought about how they were probably brought up. (It's still a bit shocking how he would hit a child without hesitation though)

Nevertheless, I could tell that the ideals I pertained to in my world where democracy prevailed held no meaning here. And despite my efforts, I remained mostly clueless regarding my situation.

But, today strayed from the monotonous lifestyle that I had begun to acclimate to.

A commotion in the small village. I listened closely to the whispers of the people, trying to figure out what happened. It seems that Royal Knights had made an appearance.

I made my way into the crowd to take a closer look at these so-called knights. There were four to five of them surrounding a carriage, all of them were wearing a red uniform with yellow highlights. They also had a fancy insignia in a moon shape clipped onto their clothes, it seemed to be the symbol of the Royal family.

It was no wonder that the people were gossiping, what business could the royal family have with a remote village? I could only hope they weren't here to kill us off or to take the land. I may not have any personal connection to this place, but I still prioritized my own survival. There was no guarantee I would end up possessing another body after dying a second time.

Someone cloaked came out of the carriage and started a conversation with the knights. They held a slightly shimmering yellow orb in their hands; it looked similar to those that could be found in one of those fortune teller scams.

They scoured the area for a moment before locking eyes with me for a second. I didn't think much of it, after all, I had noticed this body had quite an unusual hair color. It was light purple, though I wasn't sure how strange it was in this world, there did still seem to be a predominant black hair color in the community.

I did notice an occasional other person with strange hair colors though, it was most likely just one of the recessive traits in this world. Like blonde...except it also had colors like pink and blue. What was this, some kind of anime universe?

I was still randomly thinking about the strangeness of the hair colors when I noticed the knight pointing in my direction. Or was it at me?

"The prophecy has deemed that girl the Saint."

"Huh?"

That knight...was he referring to me? That was unexpected to say the least. Everyone started at me in shock, after all It wasn't everyday a saint was announced. It was especially surprising that the Saint would be some random little girl in a small village, or at least that's my assumption from the reactions of the villagers.

I stood there a while processing the situation. Before I could make a proper response I was pulled by the arm and dragged away by one of the knights.

I guess it was indeed, me.

I didn't resist; I wouldn't be able to resist even if I tried in the first place, how could a feeble girl fight against a trained knight? Besides that, it's not like there was a reason too, It's not like I cared much about this village, it had only been approximately a week since I arrived here after all.

And...a saint would probably be treated well right?

I hoped with all my heart that saints in this world weren't sacrificed to some dragon or something. If that was the case, I would try to run away no matter what.

People's eyes followed me, but not one interfered, who would dare? Even the mother of this body simply stared in shock. And before I knew it, I was already riding the carriage, on my way to the capital.
