An Embarrassing First Counter...

Five days later…

It took me a while, but I was finally able to reach Nakasu, an entertainment district that resides between two major rivers.

“GOD, I should’ve just stayed at my home…”

I barely left my house in months, and the first thing I did since leaving was go on a 50- 50-kilometer walk?!

Not considering the fact that I had to rest in random, disgusting locations without a futon, making sleep a torturous event. I tried continuing without any sleep, but I ended up almost fainting because of it.

Thankfully, food and water aren’t that hard to come by with the number of abandoned convenience stores all over my town that are filled with expired items. Most of the foods that I could eat were canned food, but it’s still better than nothing. Most of the refrigerators while deactivated, also has tons of water within it, though it’s a bit disappointing that most of them have reached room temperature…

Even after I’m done, do I really want to go back on this hellish journey?

“Which one of these is a soapland, anyway…” I sighed as I circled a neighborhood.

Now that I think about it, most of humanity has gone extinct, so there’s a high chance there won’t be any operational places. On my way here, I was able to come across a couple of establishments that were somehow open, but they were so rare that I could count them with only one hand…

“…?”

In the distance, there’s an establishment with large writings and multiple girls in explicit clothing plastered on the front page of the store. Adorning the sign is a hue of pink with flashy lights, indicating that there might still be life within the establishment.

“…God, I thank thee…” I clasp my hands together, close my eyes, and bow my head down.

Just gotta hope the business itself is still running!

Without much thought, I jog my way with light steps, ecstatic to see what’s going to greet me.

“Woah?!”

A woman dressed in a stylish way with long, black hair takes a few steps away from the counter and takes on a battle stance, as if she’s prepared to get into a fight.

“Do you have any selection list?!” I placed my hand on top of the counter, leaning further towards the woman’s face.

“F-First of all, this place is already closed!” The woman lowers her body until she produces a moldy baseball bat, aiming it towards me. “Secondly, who the hell are you?!”

“Woahwoahwoah!” I quickly raise my hands, taking a few steps back, “I’m just here for a good time! No need to threaten me like that!”

“And why should I care about someone who came in yelling those vulgar words?!” The woman jumped over the counter and raised the bat higher, her face becoming more flushed as she inches closer to me.

“Okayokay! Can you just… lower the bat for now?” I redirect my gaze downwards.

“…”

*CLANG*

“…?!”

The woman dropped the bat onto concrete with immense strength, though it feels more like she intentionally smacked the ground rather than dropping it…

“I-I’ve been out for a while, and I kiiiinda got too excited when I first saw that this place is open…” I let out a dry laugh while taking a step back, glancing back and forth between the floor and the woman standing before me.

“Sorry to disappoint you, but I’m closing this place starting today…” The woman placed the baseball bat over her shoulders, her gaze looking around the shop.

“…Then, can I be your last customer?” I fixed my glasses and smiled at her.

“Sorry, but everyone who worked here is gone…” The woman looks back towards a specific hallway on my right, her shoulders drooping.

Beyond that hallway, there are rows of doors with walls that are filled with molds, broken-down building parts, and an ominous room that has its door open at the far back, with some kind of rope peaking out of the room.

“…”

“…Then, can I do it with you?” I look up at the woman.

“I don’t swing that way.” The woman looks back towards me, her side-eye digging straight into my soul.

“Ghaah!” I clutch my chest, bending my body forward.

“H-Hey… what’s wrong?” The woman bends down in front of me, taking a look at my complexion with a straight face.

“N-No… your disgusted look scared me a bit…” I replied, letting out tons of heavy sighs.

“Oh… You’re just a masochist…” The woman straightened her posture, walking away from me.

“No, I’m not.” I quickly fix my body posture, composing my emotions.

“Look…” The woman rubs her nose bridge, looking back towards me with an annoyed expression, “I’m having… a bit of a day right now… and I need you to keep yourself away from me…”

“But I just got here…” I take a step forward.

“Well, then go find some place where you belong.” The woman takes a step forward, her tall figure covering my surrounding light.

“But… I spent five days just to get here! At least give me some sort of options—”

“I don’t care!”

‘I DON’T CARE! Use that brain of yours to figure something out!’

“…Ahh…” Taking a step back, I lost my footing and fell onto the ground, hugging my head and cradling my shaking knees.

“…?”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m really sorry… I’ll try my best, just… I swear I’ll do even better!”

“…Come on masochist, I have things to do, so can you just—”

A stretched-out hand.

Even without seeing it, I could sense it.
