Chapter 2:

Rematch Upon Rematch

A Hobgoblin is An S-Ranker!?

“Hmm~…that smells good!”

The hobgoblin smiled cheerfully as he took out a freshly baked pie out of a wooden oven. He placed it onto his small table and licked his lips.

“Pumpkin Potato Pie! I can’t wait to dig in!”

Just as the hobgoblin was about to ravage the pie just how a mountain lie would tear up a deer, a loud explosion erupted from the front of the house. The front door exploded and broke into millions of pieces.

The hobgoblin’s smile faded instantly and he held is head down.

“This the fourth time this week…she picks the best timing does she not?”

He got out of his chair and lazily walked over to the outside of the house where an angry looking Ena was standing. She was covered in dirt and seemed to be exhausted.

“Today…”

Ena spoke while breathing heavily.

“Today is the day I take your head you disgusting hobgoblin!”

“Ma’am I would really appreciate it and if you stopped destroying my door,” the hobgoblin said nonchalantly. “It takes a long time to fix it and when I don’t fix it the cold night air gets in and it makes it really hard for me to sleep!”

“You won’t have to worry about that door because today will be your last!”

“You said that last week…and the week before that…and the week before that—“

“But this time! I know your weakness!”

Ena seemed insane as she channeled a dark red magical energy through her (now fixed with tape) magic staff. Spewing from the dark mist was a disgusting and horrifying creature that resembled a corpse while wearing bright red garments. It wore a red hat similar to a crown of a king and wore a blindfold with a strange monstrous eye emblem on it.

The hobgoblin raised his hands.

“What am I looking at?”

“Behold you worthless creature!” Ena pointed towards the Spector. “This is Lore! The Ancient Warlock who once commanded an army of your kind back in the olden days! I dug up his body and conjured his spirit into my staff!”

“…And why would you do such a thing?”

“Because he is your weakness! His command over goblins and orcs is unmatched! I don’t know what Dark Lord bestowed upon you your unearthly powers but this spirit has the strength to strip it away!”

“For the last time, no dark lord gave me this power! I got it on my own!”

“Ha! Try to hide behind your pathetic lies if you think it can save you! Lore—Lord of the Dark Mist! Purge this worthless defect of a minion!”

The Warlock known as Lore raised his skeleton like hands into the air and emitted a gigantic black magic circle. It hovered above the hobgoblin and brought down a beam of light.

“Yes! The spell has made contact! Now you should be back to being a normal and weak—“

Out of nowhere, a pie came flying from the air and crashing into the face of Lore. Then the hobgoblin appeared behind the Spector and rammed his massive green fists into its skull, turning it into dust.

The warlock vanished and Ena stood alone, frozen in her previous moment of triumph.

The hobgoblin then strolled in front of her—his eyes flashing dangerously.

“If yah don’t want me to break your bones…get the hell out…”

“O-…okay…”

Ena said weakly and with tears streaming down her eyes as she walked away while clutching her staff.

Once she was gone, the hobgoblin sighed and went back to his house.

“Elves…they never change even after thousands or even millions of years…”
