Chapter 3:
A Hobgoblin is An S-Ranker!?
“Today is the day I finally kill that disgusting hobgoblin!”
Ena stated to herself in a whisper as she hid behind a bush. She diligently observed the hobgoblin tending to his crops which took for about a few hours. After a while, the sun was beginning to set and the green monster returned to his house looking satisfied.
The elf priestess could not contain her glee the moment the hobgoblin returned inside his house. For that was the moment she was waiting for.
Holding up her magic staff to the air, a blinding light emitted from the top and jumped forward. It then took the form of three white wolves with fierce sea-blue eyes and sharp fangs.
“I will tear up the field of that monster and while he is distracted, I will incinerate him with my most powerful blaze spell! Will his guard down he can do completely nothing!”
Ena stood up and held her arm up to the other.
“Now go, Dogs of Cavra! Destroy that ugly creatures work!”
The three wolves did not waste any time as they charge into the very field while snarling and howling. They ripped apart the dirt and destroyed the crops with their sharp teeth. In a matter of minutes, the hard work that the hobgoblin had dedicated for the entirety of the afternoon to night was ruined.
Just as Ena predicted, the noise was enough for the hobgoblin to come outside. The big green monster was screamed out in shock and terror as he saw his crops getting destroyed.
“No! No! No!”
The hobgoblin charged into the field and kicked one of the white wolves away. The force of the kick was enough to launch the wolf all the way into the far side of the forest. The monster’s attention was fully on the white wolves as Ena went behind him and began to charge her own attack.
The magic staff of the elf priestess lit up with an ember light and emitted a heat that even burned the grass that surrounded the caster. A second later, Ena aimed the staff at the back of the hobgoblin and then—
“FIRE!”
A gigantic ball of flame flew from the staff and struck the hobgoblin, causing a massive explosion that was enough to blow Ena off her feet. The elf priestess got up to see nothing but smoke and the smell of burning wood, dirt, and grass.
“YES!”
Ena cheered loudly while dancing on her tippy-toes.
“I finally killed that worthless monster! Now my journey as an adventurer can finally—“
“You…”
“…Begin?”
Coming out of the smoke was the hobgoblin—still very much alive but covered in soot. His clothes were partially burned off, revealing his massive stomach and his two massive and muscular green arms. His farmer’s hat was gone, leaving only neck-long orange hair. And the hobgoblin’s frown was deep while his eyes flashed like stars of the night.
He was enraged.
“You crossed the line…elf…”
“H-huh?”
Ena’s brain was still trying to process how her most powerful spell did not even injury her opponent to any severe degree. She was not even aware of how much danger she was in at the moment.
“Come…Four!”
The hobgoblin held out his right hand and immediately something from the sky fell down and pierced the land. It was a large two-handed busted sword with a black fang at the end.
The green monster easily picked up the massive weapon and continued to stare at Ena with nothing but absolute contempt.
“Come with me…let’s settle this tonight.”
