Chapter 2: Time Phantom – The OtherSelf

Multiverse: The Story of Chaos

Chapter 2: Time Phantom – The Other Self Location: Countryside of Luxembourg
The rain had passed, but the storm hadn't.
On the edge of a jagged cliff far from civilization, two versions of the same soul sat in silence—one cloaked in mystery, the other drenched in chaos.
Below them lay a ruined village, swallowed by night.Above, the stars blinked like distant memories.
The mad scientist knelt in the dirt, dragging a stick across a flat rock.A messy diagram sprawled across its surface, complete with arrows, loops, and a bold title:
“Timeline 38.4b: Toast Explosion = Butterfly Effect.”
He squinted at it proudly, then glanced sideways.
“So… mysterious hoodie guy,” he said, licking the stick for absolutely no reason, “are you finally going to tell me who you are? Or am I still hallucinating from timeline static and expired cheese?”
The cloaked man didn’t speak. He only stared into the darkness, golden eyes unreadable.
Then, slowly, he answered.
“I’m you,” he said. “From another universe.”
The scientist didn’t blink.
Then he exploded into laughter.
“HA! I KNEW IT! The dreams, the reflections, the talking vending machine in my sleep—they were all real!”
His voice echoed through the canyon, wild and ecstatic.
But the man beside him remained still. A shadow carved from storm and silence.
“I’ve seen thousands of us,” the cloaked one continued. “Some were monsters. Some were heroes. Most died.”
The laughter died down.
The scientist sat up straighter, voice softer now. “And you? What kind are you?”
The cloaked one hesitated. Just a second. Just enough to hint at pain.
“…One who failed.”
He reached into his coat and pulled out a small cube.It pulsed with unstable energy, glowing blue and white, humming with layered frequencies that bent the air around it.
“This is a Nexus Reactor. One of twelve. You built the prototype in this world. And now I need your help to finish what you started.”
The scientist stared at it, awe shifting into alarm.
“…Oh.”
“Oh?”
“That’s bad. That’s really bad.”
The cloaked one narrowed his eyes. “Why?”
The scientist scratched his chin, then stood up slowly.
“Because if that’s Version 1.0… then Version 1.2 is buried under the military’s blacksite bunker.”
The wind picked up, howling through the canyon like a whisper from time itself.
The cloaked man rose.
“We’re going back.”
The scientist blinked. Then grinned wide, eyes sparkling with madness.
“Back to the dungeon of doom? Oh, Time Phantom, you know exactly how to seduce a madman.”
They looked at each other.
No words.
Just a shared memory, scattered across realities, reuniting in the present. And then… they walked off into the dark.Storm behind them.Destiny ahead.---
