Chapter 6:
Hopskotch Hooligans
While getting off the elevator to the third floor both kneel crouching down to waist level.
The both move with the utmost of silence as to not signal any of this floor’s residents of their presence.
They carefully crawl down the long hallway; careful to not make any noise to alert the residents of their presence.
The briskgull make it to a blue door with the numbers “309” posted across.
Navën reached into the nape of his shirt pulling out the key ring. He begins flipping through the selection of keys on the ring.
When seeing the poor boy struggle; Chounie decides to step in.
“I think it’s best if you look at the type of lock and size if you want to determine which one it should be.” whispers Chounie.
Navën looks over towards her direction; however, within a moments notice she walk past him and crouches in front of the door.
She begins looking at the size of the key and any other distinguishing features.
Having taken about few minutes to asses the keyhole; she arises from her crouching position.
“So—“ poses Navën with a look of confusion.
“Well— I can say that the key seem to be about 1” length wise, but no telling how long as it’s pretty dark in the hole. “ Chounie spouts out.
“Let me get my phone downstairs and I’ll use the flash–“ said Chounie before Navën interrupts.
“No need” he says as he pulls out his house key with a flashlight on the fob.
He peers down in to the keyhole with the tiny flashlight.
He carefully surveys the hole and jumps up.
“I’d say about 2.5” height before the key wouldn’t be able to fit.” says Navën with assurance.
“Well, let’s try and look for a key that matches the description.” replies Chounie.
After a couple of minutes; the two narrow down the keys who seem like a likely match.
“So there’s about 6 in total that match your measurements.” says Chounie holding the keys in her hand.
She begins to try key after key until she notices something sticks out to her.
“Hey can you hand the one I placed on the ground back there.” she says pointing to the key on the ground behind her.
Navën picks up the key behind her and places it in her hand.
She then places the keys side by side noticing that both are extremely thin. They boy seem to have the same design and length. This discovery sets off Chounie’s intuition of the key hole and why none of the keys worked.
She takes both of the keys in her hand and stands up.
She takes one places it in the key hole, noticing a looseness when turning it.
She then looks at the other key and places it in the key hole, noticing that the key fills the empty space perfectly.
Having found the missing piece of the puzzle; she reaches for the door knob.
“I think you should open it!” blurts out Chounie with a face of anxiousness.
“Why me?” whispers Navën gesturing to Chounie with a finger over his lips.
She rubs her head in embarrassment.
“Sorry! I just think it should be you that opens it. I mean I didn’t even notice Mrs. Morgan disappeared for all this time. Plus, you said you were thinking about this so much it kept you up at night. —I-I just want you to get the clarity you need.” said Chounie with a look of shyness.
“Well *coughs* I thinks that very nice of you; I guess I can open it first.” says Navën with a lump in his throat.
“She’s totally scared that something’s in there and is just using a ploy in case thing’s go left.” thinks Navën to himself as he step in front of the door.
“Well; it’s now or never.” Navën turns the door knob and gently push the door ajar.
He looks into the apartment, and surveys the area; moving his head around following inch he could see.
“Wow, it seems like someone trashed the apartment.” exclaims Navën quietly as he pushes the door open.
When pushing the door open Navën had trouble getting the door to completely open as it had been trash and household all over the floor.
He fumbles around looking for a light-switch whilst trying not to step on anything.
Upon feeling around on the right hand side of the room he feels a switch pushes it up.
Once the light turns on in what seems to be the kitchen. There is a faint sound coming from the closet in the hallway.
“Oh my god! What happened here. Everyyime I came here it looked so put together.” said Chounie in shock.
She makes her way in the kitchen; feeling around for the other light switch that turns on the chandelier in the living room.
Navën; is making his way closer to the mysterious noise. Inching closer and closer in hopes of not startling whatever it is or better yet; not pissing it off.
Chounie has mad her way from the kitchen to other side of the apartment; feeling for the other light-switches.
She suddenly hears sounds of crunching under feet as she slowly paces around the room in search for the light switch.
Navën is slowly making his way into the hallway; notices the sound got louder when gets close to the hallway closet.
Navën looks over to the closet in bewilderment, “Is this where that noise is coming from?” He thought to himself.
He looked around and picked up a long metal object from off the floor.
He hesitates but eventually convinces himself that in order to find out what happened to Mrs. Morgan; he needs to be brave.
So he reaches for the door knob and slowly opens the door to the closet.
At first he can barely see anything in the closet as only the lights near the entrance are on.
However, when he kneels down he can see two eyes looking back at him.
He jumps back in surprise and as soon as he hit the floor the figure jumped out started biting his shoes.
“HELPP! HELP! A monster has my shoe.” screamed Navën.
As soon as Chounie heard Navën’s shriek she found the light-switch immediately flipping it on.
Once the light flickered on the image of the monster that had Navën was revealed to be none other than Mrs. Morgan’s dog.
“Ahahahahaha! That’s a real scary monster I tell ya!” squeaked Chounie in laughter.
“Oh Shutup!” groaned Navën.
“Sorry! I didn’t mean to be so hapless but I was expecting a little more menacing.” retorted Chounia chuckling, wiping a tear from her eyes .
The little Boston Terrier lets go of Navën’s shoe and immediately runs to Chounie and starts to twirl around in circles.
