Chapter 2:
Shadow of Oblivion
You never know what happens in the darkness...
What goes on when you turn your back
'Did you get to him?'
'No'
'No matter, we'll do it today.'
'..Let's see what the prodigy can do.'
You never know what lurks in the darkness, but remember light shines everywhere.
1 day left till we leave the orphanage, it may have been small, but it had always been big enough to call home, also to have nine decrepit bedrooms, six falling kitchen cabinets and a broken chair in the living room ( the toilet was good at least)
I'd gotten my uniform the day before and have worn it a dozen times. It was almost like a suit, though no buttons, and at that point, it was more like a silk shirt, but it was a magnificent blue with gold lines on the hem and a circle that read LF (Junior Forces) The fitness kit was a black shirt with white shorts bet my scruffy clothes by a mile.
My injuries healed relatively quickly thanks to my mother's technique from the divine tower called Heavenly Comfort because dimension rates were untrackable. Everyone was required to draw power from the tower; if it were strong, you'd naturally become an adventurer.
'Grey skies today, huh?'
Due to the war, the climate was harsher than usual, not to mention the elusive plus seasons that were never in the proper order because of this, towns would undergo defence measures such as underground bunkers and emergency rations.
'Hey Leywin'
It was Destiny; she had a ponytail today and was giving Emma a piggyback. She was 4 years old (the sixth youngest of all 18 of us), and they shared a room.
'Hi leyin'
She couldn't say Leywin, but it was all the same.
'Were go..ing out to seee the dimen sion that appeared in the shopping centre she said.
Of all places to spawn, that's just the unpredictability dimensions can take any form, from depending on how different or unique the monsters are, from portals, tunnels, even gates, you never know how long it will it will take to defeat the generals or when the monsters will come flooding out apparantly there was a dungeon break in my hous... that's how my mom died.
'You comming''Or scared you'll get your ass beat again?' Destiny says grinning
I ignore her comment
'Maybe if it doesn't rain'
'Alright, ' she says, still grinning
'Bye leyin'
'Bye'
'Bye prodigy, ' Destiny says, still carrying Emma
Ever since I was a kid I was skilled in any weapon from sword fighting or wielding a bow I was so good I was called a natural prodigy and my name went from ear to ear after the multi-weapon tournament I was known in even the both empires and prodigy was know a nickname I never liked it though since all it did was bring unwanted attention to mother not many were happy with the outcome of it though but thanks to it I got a scholarship to JF (junior forces)
Looks like most people left to see the dimension. I walk into the living room, Elijah sitting on the couch, face upwards, with a math's book on his face and a comb sticking out of his afro.
'What are you doing?' I ask
'Absorbing the words, ' He croaks
'Smart I say, ' Where's Mother?'
'Getting scammed by thugs'
Mother always protected us, even though having so many black kids here got her unwanted attention, she still treated us equally... wait, did he say thugs?
Our eyes widened, both realising the fact, and as if we were in sync, we ran to the door.
Three men stood towering over the door, the one in front carried a sheathed sword, whilst one of them held an axe which he balanced on his neck, and the last one held two twin daggers. One in the middle had a bandana
'You sure you're fifty? ' he said
Mother wasn't responding, instead trying to hold back the door before I could say anything. Elijah beat me to it
'Hey, ugiles, get lost!' he shouted
They looked altered, and the one with the axe spoke mockingly
'I thought we'd come to an orphanage, not a slave market'
They laughed intensely. Elijah took a step forward, still refusing to back down
'Wanna say that again but a little louder so my fist can hear'
Elijah stood a fair chance one-on-one. After all, he excelled in martial arts and it was his speciality. He aced the JF martial arts practical exam ( we don't talk about the writing one, cause it made Mom faint. I still feel bad for Elijah's bum)
But this was different, it was a 2v3 and they had weapons (maybe even techniques)
'So the boy wants to go huh'
As they advanced forward, the one with a bandana came falling down with a drop kick from behind.
'De... Destiny, I thought you left to go see the dimension, I say, shocked
'Emma fell asleep, ' she says quickly, placing her down
'Kids quickly run, don't die here, ' mother says, panicking
'It's too late for that, ' the man raised up and unsheathed his sword
'Noo..' Mom screamed. The man slapped her head off the wall, and blood quickly gushed out
'Mother'
'Mother'
'Mother'
We shout
I feel the darkness is beginning to rise
'3v3 lets see who wins he says'
