Chapter 14:

Coffee Klatch While Having Late Supper: Is There Any Betrayer?

The Quietus Cloud, The Witch Curve, and The Five - A mathematical, historical, and philosophical tale set in a world where the sun is about to end and a cloud covers the entire earth in eternal twilight

It was the evening of January 1st. There were four people gathered at table number 6 of Auerbach’s Sky Terrace restaurant. Table number 6 was on the edge of the top floor of the restaurant that is located on the hills. The location of the table offered a beautiful view of the sparkling city of Munich. In addition to satisfying the tongue, the table provided the table tenants with a delicious feast for the eyes.

Of course, there were services and goods, and there was a commensurate price to be paid. However, for the four table tenants, the price of renting table number 6 was not something that would drastically reduce their wallets. The four table tenants were all members of the Five, an odd and untouchable institution that provided large remuneration.

Four, five, six. The four members of the Five sat facing each other at table number six at a late supper.

That time, the presentation of delicious food and drink menus with artistic presentations, as well as enchanting landscape hues, could not dispel the less-than-joyful mood that infected the four people.

Daiyu Meischlau Weilongluck, Essa Eruhi Schonewolken, Gaetan Glanzrad Ragunanzu, Otto Bravmann Schellhahn.

In order, the average frequency of drinking alcohol for the four of them was only when there was an event, once a month, once a week, and once a day. However, at that time, at table number 6, there was no alcohol at all. Schelhahn, who usually orders alcohol when visiting expensive restaurants, also did not do what he usually does.

Of course, Schellhahn did not order alcohol because of pressure from his three friends. Schellhahn already knew that the discussion that would arise at dining table number 6 would not be suitable if he ordered alcohol. At the late supper, they discussed Herzwarm's death and the possibility of how the old man died.

Schellhan said, "I'll be honest. Earlier, in front of the police, I openly thought that Mr. Herzwarm did not die by suicide."

Ragunanzu responded briefly, "Same here."

Weilongluck commented in the same way, "Me too. Although I may not be as outspoken as you, Schell."

Schellhahn asked, "What about you, Schonewolken, who went so far as to add Mr. Herzwarm's name as a keyword to the news notification artificial intelligence?" What do you think as the member of the Five who is closest to Mr. Herzwarm?"

Schonewolken replied, "Yes, I am like Weilongluck. I did not say outright that I do not believe that Mr. Warm died by suicide."

Schonewolken quickly added his answer, "But it seems I need to correct myself; I am not a member of the Five who is closest to Mr. Warm. If it were the top three, I would probably be in."

Weilongluck agreed, "There are still Ather Lana Schneegeist, and Isaac Inbin Neutor."

Ragunanzu commented, "Yes. Those two are the ones who are placed in Peenemunde, the research center for making rockets and destroying the Quietus Cloud, which has the most complete facilities".

Schellhahn said, “Speaking of the Five, it seems like the police will be questioning all 216 of our members. After me and Weilongluck, then you, Ragunanzu, and Schonewolken.”

Schellhahn and Weilongluck were indeed the first and second members of the Five to be questioned by the police.

Weilongluck agreed, “It seems so. If Mr. Herzwarm did not commit suicide but appeared to have committed suicide, the murderer must have done it very neatly. To do all that, you need intelligence, a lot of information about Mr. Herzwarm, and sufficient resources.”

Ragunanzu commented, “It makes sense that those things would make the police suspect the Five.”

Schellhahn said, “You might agree with me. There is a crème de la crème among us. People with more skills and more connections. Of course, I am talking about the Big Five. If I were a cop, I would pay more attention to those five. A to E.”

A to E is the current term for the members of the Big Five, because the first names of the five members of the Big Five can be arranged from A to E.

Schonewolken agreed, “It seems that the police will interrogate the five more intensively.”

Ragunanzu chimed in, “That’s it.”

Schellhahn said, “Well, call it a coffee klatch, call it gossip. But if you were the police, which member of the Big Five do you think should receive the most questioning?”

For a few seconds, none of Schellhan’s three colleagues responded, so Schellhan expressed his own opinion: “In my opinion, it is clear that the most suspect person is Mr. Wernherluft. Because Mr. Herzwarm has openly said that he does not like Mr. Wernherluft’s closeness and movements with the military at this time.”

Schellhan’s three colleagues still did not respond, so Schellhan took the opportunity to speak again, “But that does not mean that the other four people besides Mr. Wernherluft have no possible motives for conflict with Mr. Warm.”

Schellhan’s three colleagues still had not responded, so Schellhan took the opportunity to speak again: “For example, Mrs. Zeusleben. Yes, we know that Mrs. Zeusleben and Mr. Warm often squabble with each other. Quarreling but joking around. But who knows if something will happen from such interactions? And also, Mrs. Zeusleben is close to the current Chancellor. There might be something between the three of them.”

This time, Weilongluck finally spoke up: “Mrs. Zeusleben, who is called ‘The Angel’ and always acts gracefully with other people, when she interacts with Mr. Warm, can become a different person. People can call Mrs. Zeusleben a ‘fallen angel’ because of Mr. Warm.”

“Well, that’s it,” Schellhan said with a snap of his fingers.

Ragunanzu finally commented, “Then what about Ms. Szyschulz? Mr. Warm is a cat person, while Ms. Szyschulz is a dog person. They used to joke about that. But who knows if there’s something else behind their interactions? Plus, Ms. Szyschulz is arguably the member of the Big Five who interacts the most with ambassadors and officials from other countries.”

“Well, that’s it,” Schellhan said with another snap of his fingers.

Weilongluck talked about the other members of the Big Five: “Then there’s Mr. Iyilipmann. He replaced Mr. Herzwarm after Mr. Herzwarm left the Five. Mr. Herzwarm said he left because of his own decision, because he wanted to focus more on his OSHI business. But who knows if there’s something else going on behind the scenes between the person he replaced and the person he replaced?”

Ragunanzu commented, “Who knows that Mr. Iyilipmann, nicknamed ‘The Clown,’ is actually a con man?”

“There you have it,” Schellhan said with another snap of his fingers.

Schellhan then brought up the Big Five members who had not been mentioned: “Then there’s Mr. Starkgeist, Mr. Warm’s collaborator in creating the IJK energy reactor. Who knew those two guys had an inevitable falling out?”

Schonewolken finally spoke up, "Alright, alright. We may be talking about the Five, but people who aren't members of the Five can have motives and resources too. What about the Fates organization? The ones who call us witches? Remember, behind them is the Felsenmann family."

Schellhan commented, “Ah, speaking of super-rich families. Wasn’t Mr. Herzwarm’s OSHI business reportedly bid on by the Heissvogel family?”

Hearing the name of the Heissvogel family, Schonewolken immediately thought of a woman.
