Chapter 50:

Yatro END: For you and me, death is only a choice

The boar mask

Mors had returned to the palace with Wisdom, and both lived there for the time they had left. Mors had a lot of things to process, and the other Goddess decided to leave her alone with her thoughts until she was ready.

Eventually, the people who distributed food for everyone stopped appearing. The streets were completely barren, and people could not be seen. From the highest point of the city, the reflection of water could be seen in the distance. If they tried to, they would probably be able to count the remaining days down.

But truly, who would want to do that?

Mors could do nothing but think. To sit on the border of the balcony and look ta the distance, to the city. To the very sparse people that sometimes popped up like a black dot moving around. Her job, just as her life, was soon to be over.

The pain on her chest did not subside. She was full of grief, and wondered if she was fated to always feel like that. As if her soul had a gaping hole, even if there wasn’t one on it anymore.

When she could finally see the waters reaching nearer in the distance she slightly panicked for a bit. But really… Why would she actually worry, now?

She would not get over Todo’s death anytime soon, that was for sure. But now that he was dead… it was as if any cause for worry had vanished out with him.

She sometimes went down to the city, but none of the remaining people wanted to talk with her. Sometimes she even peeked towards Wisdom, but she was busy with her own magic and didn’t even look at her.

It was strange how peaceful it all was, before the end.

When she saw movement in the waters, she knew it wouldn’t be long before the telchines appeared. Still no reason to worry, but given that there would be no more chances now…

There was one last thing she could take care of.

She went outside the city, to the house she visited so often before grief took over her heart. When she saw the door was broken she slightly panicked, but as soon as she entered, she noticed there was nothing to worry about.

In the living room, an entire family was sleeping together. Cuddling, they all looked completely peaceful, a gentle smile on their faces as they slowly breathed away.

Here she came, unsure of what she would do, what to feel. She was afraid of her ire exploding again, but it was all for nothing. When she saw them, the only thing she felt was envy. The idea of taking back her power now felt petty. What would be the point? Maybe, let it be, as a reminder of what had happened, and the things she can’t allow herself to repeat.

To repeat, as if she had time. She would soon reach her end just like them.

She hoped she would be able to face the end as gracefully as they did.

Truly, she may be able to, if she actually had some time to figure it all out now. But time is the one thing she didn’t have.

Well, as far as she knew. If she was going to try and abandon her wrath, there was someone she could still reunite with before the end.

At the very least, it couldn’t hurt to ask, right?
