Chapter 28:
The Quietus Cloud, The Witch Curve, and The Five - A mathematical, historical, and philosophical tale set in a world where the sun is about to end and a cloud covers the entire earth in eternal twilight
It's now the date of January 2. It's now night. Location: on the edge of a forest. I have parked my car behind the princess's car. The princess's car, which used to be the princess's and Sisy's ride, is now empty. Now my car is also empty after I get out of my car. I immediately step into the forest. My task now is to approach the princess.
I looked at my cellphone screen, which at that time displayed a map application. On the map, there was a red balloon at a point. The location of the red balloon in decimal format coordinates is 48.1469, 8.8207. In addition to the red balloon on my map, there was a blue circle that continued to move closer to the position of the red balloon.
The blue circle indicates my position, which continues to move towards my destination location. My destination is a historical relic in the form of a fortress in Wehingen, which in our language is called Harrasburg. My more specific destination is near a mini cauldron in the ruins of the fortress.
Wehingen is located in the state of Baden-Wurttemberg in the Federal Republic of Deutschtonia. In other words, this city with the postal code 78564 is in the same state as the city where I live. It is only about 48 kilometers from Hessestadt, which means less than an hour's drive by car at normal speed.
This fortress used to be a large fortress in the city of Wehingen. This fortress is one of the witnesses to how the Thousand Years' War took place. Now, the ruins of the fortress at this location only leave a small part of the walls.
It can be said that it would be difficult if these ruins were used as a tourist attraction; not many tourists would come to see the remains of history, as only half a fragment remains. The people who come are only people like historians or history enthusiasts. Or, people who have certain interests, like me, the princess, and Sisy, at this time.
"Wissenmeister Schonewolken, here!" said Sisy while waving her hand.
"Hey, Sisy, don't be so loud!" the princess reminded.
“Oh, sorry, forgive me, Miss Aria,” Sisy said.
Once facing the two women, the princess gave a brief explanation: “We found this mini cauldron with rocks inside, and we have removed the rocks.”
“Good job,” I said as I opened my bag, showing the chrysanthemum flowers that I had bought from the Cone of Farmers in Mailly-le-Camps. Without a word, Sisy also opened the bag she was carrying, showing several bottles of OSHI sake.
I commented, “Looking at the size of this mini cauldron, it seems that the 5 sakes are meant to be 5 bottles of 1 go sake.”
The princess also commented, “Or 5 bottles that are 180 milliliters or a total of 900 milliliters.”
After Sisy and I simultaneously poured the kuki flowers and OSHI sake. Only 6 seconds later, bubbles suddenly appeared from the mixture of liquids in the mini cauldron. Then a voice was heard from inside the cauldron, “The potion is ready. Please, Vogel and Wolken, enter your fingerprints into my cauldron in turn.”
I briefly made eye contact with the princess, and with that silent communication, we understood that I wanted to say, “I will put my hand in first.”
After the princess and I had finished putting our palms in, 6 seconds later, smoke emerged from the cauldron that gradually grew larger. The princess and I moved back to avoid the smoke. Meanwhile, Sisy commented, “Wow, it looks like the Quietus Cloud.”
After about 21 seconds, when the size of the roof could accommodate two adult humans, another voice came from the cauldron, “Please, Vogel and Wolken, enter this smoky Angstloch and bring chrysanthemums and OSHI sake as your provisions. I will take you to Mr. Warm’s dungeon.”
Before entering the smoke, the princess told her guard, “Sisy, guard here, okay?”
Sisy replied, “Yes, Miss Aria. My eyes will not leave this place and your car.” At that time, Sisy had indeed equipped herself with cameras that could monitor the princess’s car—and mine. The princess had waved her hand, which made Sisy wave her hand too, before the smoke made the ground where my feet and the princess’s feet were standing fall.

In front of me and the princess, there was a four-wheeled tub-like thing parked on a rail track. I spontaneously expressed my thoughts, “What is this? Up there is the Alleinbahn; here there is a tub bahn.”
“Hahaha…” the princess laughed at my comment.
That was when a voice was heard from the tub train, “Welcome, Vogel and Wolken. Please get into this tub. I will take you to the inside of the dungeon.”
Without waiting, the princess and I immediately opened the tub door. The tub was larger than a regular bathroom tub. The princess and I, who had entered the tub, could still feel relieved because there was still enough space left. Per the configuration of the chairs in the tub, the princess and I sat facing each other.
“It seems that we are going downhill,” I said, seeing the movement of the tub train on the increasingly descending rails.
The princess replied, “As this tub says, it will take you to the deeper part of this dungeon.”
The princess then brought up another topic: “Speaking of which, Polyops, perhaps Mr. Warm has designed it so that there are certain substances in his OSHI sake that will react with the chrysanthemum flowers.”
I agreed, “It seems so.”
The princess continued the conversation, “And I am increasingly curious about the flowers from the Cone of Farmers in Mailly-le-Camp. Once we have solved all these puzzles, I would like to research the cookie flowers in your bag further.”
“Me too; perhaps we can work together, princess,” I said.
The princess was a little surprised. “You? Are you interested in botany?”
I explained my reasons: “I chose not to tell you over the phone about what I found from my brief research on the Cone of Farmers in the Hexagon country. Now, Polyops here will tell you. This is from my brief observation and some questions I asked the people there. It seems that some of the important people who own the company that operates the Cone of Farmers there are members of the Two Leaves Ginkgo sect.”
When the princess remained silent, I added, “That sect is the sect that Mr. Warm is a member of.”
The princess responded, “I know about Mr. Warm’s membership.”
Seeing that I didn’t respond, the princess said, “But anyway, you’re curious, right? Okay, let’s look into that flower next.”
I nodded, then moved on to another topic. “By the way, princess, is there any other information about this area?”
Previously, the princess had chatted with me on the phone while we were still walking on our respective paths. The princess told me information about the conditions in the area around the ruins of this fortress. The population here is only 16 people, and they are all elderly. There is a small stadium owned by a soccer club called FC Rot-Weiss Reichenbach, which is currently no longer operating.
The princess said, "There is something I haven't told you."
"What is it?" I asked.
The princess explained, "The government is reportedly going to relocate the remaining residents here to another place. Many of the lands here have been listed for sale, including the land around the ruins of this fortress. The government itself plans to find sponsors for the maintenance of the fortress, which is no longer possible to become a tourist attraction".
I immediately expressed my thoughts, "Ah! Isn't that great? We can buy the lands around here and—"
The princess cut me off, "We?"
I realized my mistake. "Uhm, sorry. Polyops didn't mean us, but the princess who bought it."
The princess smiled, “If that’s what you’re hoping for, how do you persuade me to buy it?”
I was a little surprised by the princess's question, "Eh, that, how do I convince..." I immediately said what was on my mind, "Maybe I'll say, the lands here will be good for the princess's future and—"
The princess immediately laughed, hearing my unfinished answer, "Hahahaha ...."
