Chapter 2:

The Weight of Silence

Shadow of Peace : VOLUME 1

> “The cruelest battles are not fought with swords... but with words unspoken.”— Renjiro Akamine

---
[Scene: Dawn – Edge of the Burnt Village]
The first light of morning crawled over the ashes of Tsukihana Village. Smoke rose in tired spirals. The scent of charred wood, scorched steel, and burnt blossoms lingered like a ghost refusing to leave.
Renjiro Akamine stood alone, silhouetted by the pale sunrise. His cloak was torn. His body, bleeding. But it wasn’t the wounds on his flesh that weighed him down—it was what remained unsaid.
In his palm was a hair ribbon—white, delicate, dirt-stained. It belonged to her.
Amiya Takahara.
> “Why is it that even after saving her… I still feel like I’ve lost?”

---
[Scene: Inner Temple – Healing Chamber]
Amiya lay unconscious, her heartbeat steady but weak. Her skin was pale, touched by magic residue from the enemy’s cursed attack. Healers chanted softly, bathing her in gentle light.
> Healer Kuroe:“She fought bravely. If it wasn’t for Renjiro…”
Healer Mizune (whispers):“He protects her like she’s his world. But she doesn’t know… does she?”

At the door, Renjiro watched. Silent. Eyes heavy.
He clenched his fist around the ribbon.
> “Every time I save her… I feel further away.”

---
[Scene: Flashback – 7 Years Ago, Moonfall Festival]
Fireflies danced in the summer night as the two stood on a small hilltop, watching lanterns float into the sky.
> Amiya (giggling):“When I grow up, I’ll be a priestess... and protect people with light.”
Renjiro (smiling faintly):“And I’ll protect you, even if it means turning into a demon.”

She laughed, unaware of the depth in his voice. He looked at her that night the way a poet looks at his last poem.
He never told her the truth.
> “I didn’t need the world. Just her.”

---
[Scene: Council of the Peacekeepers – War Table]
The ancient war room buzzed with unease. Holographic maps shimmered above the crystal table. The High Guardians spoke of threats rising beyond the borders.
> Master Kazutora:“The Wraithborn didn’t attack by accident. Someone is manipulating the threads of fate.”

> Elder Hana:“The Flame of Silence is stirring. We fear a Shadow Prophet is awakening… and he’s seeking the Bearer.”

They turned to Renjiro, who stood quietly at the side.
> Kazutora:“You, Renjiro, are the last known wielder of the Forbidden Flame. Do you deny it?”
Renjiro (calmly):“I deny nothing. I only carry what fate forced into my hands.”

> Hana (gently):“But what of your heart, child? Is it still your own?”

He didn’t answer.

---
[Scene: That Night – Under the Sakura Tree]
Amiya stirred. Woke. Her wounds still aching, but her thoughts clearer now.
She walked outside, clutching the ribbon Renjiro had returned to her bedside.
Under the moon’s pale gaze, she saw him sitting alone under the ancient sakura tree, petals falling around him like silent tears.
> Amiya (softly):“Renjiro… you saved me again.”

He didn’t look at her.
> Renjiro:“Saving you is easy. It's losing you that scares me.”

Amiya stepped closer.
> Amiya:“What are you afraid of?”

Silence.
> Renjiro (barely a whisper):“That I’ll love you all my life… and you’ll never know.”

She heard it. But she said nothing.
Because she wasn’t ready. And he wasn’t brave enough to say it again.

---
[Scene: Elsewhere – The Shadow Realm Awakens]
Far across the dimensions, a dark figure watched through a mirror of blood and broken light.
> Unknown Voice:“Love. Peace. Hope. These are the chains that weaken heroes.”

His fingers snapped. A seal cracked. Darkness spilled like ink across the sky.
> Unknown Voice:“Let’s see how long the Bearer of the Peace Flame lasts… before his heart destroys him.”
