Chapter 2:

For Ice Cream's Sake.

The Calamity Arrives, A World Without Hope

"Tulu here! Reporting in on my activities! Look at this wonderful ice cream store! Isn't it so great? So many flavors! I want to try them all, but I have no money, so send money, kays? Oh, but the nice grandpa said he'll give me one for free. He is so nice! Isn't this soft pink ice cream so pretty? And it sparkles so pretty! Oh, it is so soft and fluffy! This is definitely really good! And these soft red chunks are just a little bit tart, but just a little sweet. So wonderful!"

Tulu gleefully pranced her way around the store before almost skipping out of the store where she appeared to display her ice cream to the bright, midday sun.

"Look Mr. Sun! Isn't it so beautiful and cool?"

Rather, she really did display her ice cream to the bright, midday sun as if expecting appreciation from the sun. Tulu smiled happily as she spun in a circle as if a ballerina, giddily licking up her ice cream as the cream softened and dripped down the sides. It would have been a beautiful sight if Tulu was but a mere child.

Unfortunately, Tulu was definitely anything but a mere child and given her penchant for destruction, those watching could only hope nothing disturbed her. Those hopes were quickly dashed as a man in a suit bumped into Tulu, causing the ice cream to fall. Tulu's eyes opened wide as her mouth turned into an O shape as she screamed, "Nooooo!!!" Tulu went to grab the ice cream, but this only resulted in the ice cream, and much of the city with it, disappearing.

"Mr. Ice Cream!!!!"

Tulu turned to the man who bumped into her with tears falling from her eyes as she cried as if grieving for a precious friend. The man, seemingly oblivious to the sudden destruction of half the town, glared at Tulu, looked down on the small, pink stain on his suit, and growled at Tulu, "Hey punk, what do you think you did to my suit? How are you going to repay me, huh?

And as expected, Tulu's face contorted into a scowl as she ground her teeth with a hissing sound. Even as the onlookers watched in utter despair, Tulu brought up her hand with her middle finger touching her thumb as if to make almost a circle... except her thumb was straight and the nail of her middle finger rested on the pulp of the thumb as if to give a finger flick.

"You murdered Mr. Ice Cream, so I have to punish you."

"Huh? What are you talking about? My su-"

And with that, Tulu gave the man a forehead flick. Now, with their height difference, it looked like Tulu was just flick at the air and if Tulu was but an ordinary human girl, perhaps the onlookers might pity Tulu. Unfortunately, be as it may, Tulu was anything but an ordinary girl and the pity went to the town as the man suddenly vanished without a trace and with him, another section of the city.

Understandably, those who survived were white with horrified expressions. For the sake of ice cream, a considerable portion of the city was now simply no longer there. Moments passed with Tulu bawling over her lost ice cream and several of those went from white of horror to red of anger.

"My daughter was... You killed my daughter!"

"Marco! Marco!"

Chaos sprouted as some of those nearby realized the loss of their loved ones. Others desperately held them back with understanding of the dangers of antagonizing the bawling girl. Nobody wanted to die because someone else antagonized a walking disaster, a calamity even.

Several people even desperately rushed into the ice cream store - practically throwing their wallets at the elderly store owner. In the face of an absolute power, even money was of little concern in comparison to doing anything to save their own lives. In this rush, the owner himself rushed out with several ice creams of varying flavors.

"H-h-here girl, please have some ice cream and stop crying." The owner's hands visibly shook as he offered the ice cream to Tulu, but he offered them all the same in hopes to prevent the complete annihilation of the city, residents and all. Tulu sniffed a few more times as she looked at the elderly owner.

"Mr. Grandpa, Mr. Ice Cream died. We were having so much fun and he died."

"Y-yes, I have more ice creams for you if you want some, so please don't be upset."

"You are so kind, Mr. Grandpa!"

Tulu happily accepted the ice creams and even shoved a few into her eye. Those watching showed horrified expressions as her eye seemed to swallow up the ice creams until only one ice cream remained. This one, Tulu simply held onto and started licking.

"Oh, these are pretty good. This one too, of course. Ah, but they are kind of small so eating them like this is a bit of a waste. Hmmm... I know! If I take the entire city with me, I can eat Mr. Ice Creams any time!"

Tulu happily walked away and shortly after, Tulu looked at the city from outside the city limits. At first, Tulu seemed somewhat puzzled as to what to do. She tried to grab the ground and lift up, but this only resulted in the ground disintegrating. She seemed stumped and though for a while as she licked her ice cream idly.

Tulu happily went and tried several actions, but nothing seemed to be particularly effective as regardless of Tulu's strength, the ground simply was not sturdy enough. Tulu frowned at the city that refused to obey her will and with the ice cream finished, Tulu seemed frustrated.

"I didn't want to do this since it isn't fun if things end too quickly, but I have no choice if I want to bring Mr. Grandpa and Mr. Ice Creams with me."

Tulu  glared at the city as she muttered, "Look into my eye, okay Mr. City?" These odd words preceded a great change as strange purplish pillars sprouted around the city. Each pillar tapered off at the end and the surviving buildings in the city all began to warp as the pillars wriggled to life as if massive tentacles.

Some buildings turned into fleshy, pulsating masses that encroached upon the surrounding area, seemingly alive as some grew eyes that just frantically looked around. Other buildings seemed to decay with ivy creeping up the sides as the walls cracked. One house even smiled as screams erupted from within. It took only moments for the city to turn into a nightmarish carnival of horrors and with the tentacles wrapping themselves around the city and nightmarish flesh covering the ground, Tulu managed to lift the city into the air without it completely falling apart. The unaffected areas were quickly invaded by the chaotic changes. Horrified figures coated the city like sprinkles on a donut, not quite dead, but trapped as their bodies stuck to the very ground they tread.

With a satisfied expression that completely ignored those watching, Tulu happily skipped along the road with her new portable ice cream shop in hand - along with the rest of the city. It was a very refreshing sight if not for the ghastly sight of the city in hand.

Pip pip pip

Tulu cocked her head at the sound until it came again. Looking at the camera, Tulu spoke casually, "Hmmm... Oh, the battery is low? The battery on this thing doesn't last very long. Maybe send a better battery? I'll have to find a place to recharge it, so bye bye!"

And with that, the screen turned black.

The men at the table, with their heads buried in their hands, all seemed filled with only despair. It was only natural given the feed they saw moments ago.

"Just how exactly are we supposed to fight against something that can do that?"

In response to the general who spoke, a somewhat young man spoke up, "Sir, I believe that she does not, despite her actions, actually wish us harm. From what we saw, she could easily have destroyed us, but she chose to fight back while restraining herself. I do believe that is what gives us a fighting chance. If we band together with every nation, we may be able to stop her as long as she treats this as a game."

"You are telling me that this is really nothing more than a game to it?"

"Sir, I expect this is nothing more than a way for her to kill time. Only because of that do we stand a chance, but only if we combine our forces with all the other nations."

"And how do you expect us to do such a thing? Do you really believe that any nation would see this thing and believe it actually exists?"

"Sir, if they do not, humanity is doomed. Our hope lies in her bearing. If we were to plot a course from her path of movement, we can expect her to arrive at this location. With the time of arrival, we have several possible destinations, but I believe that her final destination will be here, the land of the Children of Winter, as she calls them."

"Children of Winter? So what do you think will happen? They'll just stop it there?"

"No, Sir. I believe that she will utterly destroy them, but that will be the key of the plan. With their destruction, it will serve as proof of her existence. The question will be how we intend to go about it."

"We will need time to consider our options. We will adjourn for now to decide."

With that, the uniformed men left the room, leaving the young man alone.

"One thing that worries me is her words. She enjoyed them, but... No, it can't be."
