Chapter 4:
Other World's Mystery Club
"Haha..."
"Why are you laughing and crying at the same time?" Ms. Jeanne ask me worriedly.
She's with Mr. Spade, along with two people which are probably healers needed in case there are seriously injured students after the battle.
"I am just in awe of how fragile my heart is, this trials bestowed to me by the world, can I prevail over it or will I be broken by the end of it. No one but the future knows."
I continued scanning for enchanted weapons that I can use for the battle but ultimately decided on this daggers in my hand, because this are the only things I think is useful. Bows are good too but magicians usually have spells that protect them from long-range attacks.
There are several weapons that students can use for free in this stand near the entrance to the arena. The only things that I can't use in here are the low tier magic weapons which consumes the bare minimum mana to fire basic spells, it will be destroyed after a few uses, I can't use those for obvious reasons. I can only use enchanted weapons, normal weapons that are enhanced with magic making them stronger than usual plus other useful effects that the enchanter added. Even an abnormal person like me can use this weapons, since they don't use mana. There are also throwables and consumables like potions and smoke bombs but it's annoying to bring one into battle. Generally, mock battles are short fast-paced battles which only lasts for a few minutes that's why bringing potions with weapons will only hinder my movements. It's a different question if this potions can fit inside my pockets, but it's a bit large that only one potion can fit in my hand.
"Uhh..." Ms. Jeanne is looking at me weirdly, did I do something?
"Can I borrow this?" I show them the daggers in my hand.
"Okay, good luck on your battle." Mr. Spade said lazily without getting up from his chair.
I give him a thumbs up and started going back to my own seat.
As I was walking I looked at the daggers in my hand again. It is made of black metal, the blade is also maintained and very sharp. The way I said is earlier that this dagger is better than me is very true because most objects in this world can be easily imbued by mana. Just like how enchanted weapons are normal weapons created in a normal way but by using rune magic and coating the whole weapon with mana, it'll become an enchanted weapon. A weapon coated with mana is stronger than a normal weapon whether it's durability or sharpness, and by inscribing runic symbols on it there'll be added effects. Just like this dagger, it has runic symbols written on the two sides of the blade. I can only read a few of it, but I thinks its effects is increased durability, wind resistance and impact resistance. Reading that book about runes that I borrowed in library has its uses after all.
On the other hand, magic weapons are created with firepower and survivability in mind. Unlike normal weapons, magic weapons are created while continuously putting mana on the weapon, dwarves are usually the masters in creating those weapons. It has instantaneous effects unlike scrolls which needs a minute or more for the spells to take effect, just by putting a bit of mana, the weapon will fire a spell that's inscribed on it. Although its durability is trash and if someone uses a magic weapon too much it'll be destroyed easily, that's why most people uses it in time of emergency like if someone spent all their mana or being cornered by monsters on all sides.
As I was engaged in nonsensical thoughts, the first battle already ended with the winner on [Class-I]'s side.

After a few battles, it was now my turn. On those battles the two classes fight, our class only won once and it's the usual class' ace. I calmly remove all my clothes except for my boxer shorts, fold it and put it on my seat, then I proceed to the battleground.
"Eh? why is he going in arena half-naked?"
"Is he going to fight like that?"
"Is he an exhibitionist? a pervert?"
"But isn't he kinda hot?"
"Eh? Is he your type of guy?"
I can hear the murmuring of the students from [Class-I], mostly girls and the guys only stared at me angrily.
I have an explanation on why I'm doing this. Most people that can use magic can coat themselves with mana, it's like being protected by three bulletproof vest stacked on top of each other. That's why most people that can use magic can't be killed by normal weapons, even this dagger in my hand can only scratch them. The skill mana coating is usually called [Magical Aura] and people who can use magic usually learn this in elementary grade. It protects someone's body from being badly damage in battle and yes, that includes clothes. As someone who can't use magic that means I have no power to protect my own school uniform. The first time I battled someone in mock battles, my uniform is practically torched and I needed to buy a new uniform which costs me a lot of money. Being a poor person, I'll absolutely not let that happen again that's why I'm doing this.
My classmates who are used to this can only sigh at my actions.
"Are you two ready?" The referee asked to the two of us.
"Yes." The two of us answered at the same time.
"Then, Ready... Set... Go!"
After the signal, Laticia immediately fired a fire ball one after another continuously from her right hand. I can only run and barely dodge this barrage of fire balls, at this rate there's no way I can counterattack.
Laticia usually doesn't move from her spot as a handicap to her opponents. She'll continue to fire until you give up, if this continues I'll be exhausted and that'll be the end of the battle. Waiting for her to use up all her mana is also not a good plan since she has a very large mana capacity, I think she can do this even after two hours has passed. At least she doesn't have to use large-scale spells because mock battles prohibited the use of those, if she can use those I'll be the dead the moment I set my foot on the battleground.
"Ouch..." As I was jumping and dodging, a fire ball grazed me.
Yeah, realistically surviving for two hours is impossible.
Well this is better than fighting Alice, the one who torched me. That girl would fire a spell while continuously dashing and attacking me with her halberd, and since that girl also relies on her instincts too much it's difficult to outrun her so I just give up when I battle her. She's from [Class II] along with Albert and Charlotte, and also she's one of his girlfriends.
Should I use my neuroability? but I don't want to deal with the annoying aftereffects later.
"Whoaa!" That was close, another one grazed me. If I move a little slower that could've hit me.
It can't be helped, let's do this.
Neuroability is an ability that is unlock by drinking a specific drug once and doing a series of physical and mental tests right after. Whether the subject unlock the ability is up to himself/herself. It's an experiment a group of scientists conducted, to research if they can unlock more potential uses of the brain and then the drug was created because of that. That said it's not a bad experiment like you see in anime and manga, most subjects volunteered and the only thing you'll do is drink the drug once and a series of tests every week before and after the subject unlock the ability. I volunteered too because my dad is one of the scientists who created that drug.
I'm also one of the rarest subject who gained two ability. Those abilities I gained are called, [Tempo] and [Prediction]. [Tempo] is the ability to adjusts your body movement base on your opponent's speed and [Prediction] is the ability to analyze the movements of your opponent base on their breathing, movements of their muscles and eyes, sweat and other stuff, it's not an overpowered ability where you can see the future. In other words it's just an upgraded version of what a normal human can do, completely different from the other subjects' ability which are considered inhuman. As an example there's this guy who can enhanced his muscles and destroy a wall with one hand, and that guy who can create something out of nothingness.
As I was thinking I started to slash the fire balls in front of me, pinpointing the weakest part of the ball and slicing it into two before disintegrating into air. I dodge the other fire balls that came from two sides since there's no way I can slice all of them.
After seeing what I did, Laticia started firing [Water Spears] using her left hand along with the fire balls.
This is bad, the water shots despite the size of a tennis ball has the speed of an arrow.
"What do I do?"
