Brawl at Stanford brua

The match between Japan and Norway might have already been decided, but there was still one game left. Brawling atop Stanford bridge in their minds, Daria and Amelia brawled on the chessboard as they neared the game's end.

"Check... Amelia, you're not flipping any tables on me, but do try not to smash the table when you lose," Daria smirked as she moved her queen to g5.

All Amelia could do was grit her teeth and move her king to e8, and imagine herself beating Daria black and blue in their imaginary brawl. But it soon proved difficult for her to properly imagine her victory as the match itself played on.

H5, queen a3, h6, queen f8, h7, queen h8, Amelia's back was truly against the wall. She desperately looked for an opening, seeing something after Daria moved her pawn to g4, and lunged for the axe she tossed aside, moving her pawn to b4.

It looked like Daria was trapped as she moved her queen to f4, but as Amelia eagerly extended her hand towards her b-pawn, she stopped herself. "No, she'll go queen c7, and then it's over. Damn defense! I hate defending this useless king!" Amelia fumed in her mind as she moved her king to f8.

But the irony was that after Daria moved her pawn to g5, Amelia moved her queen to g7, and was in a forced mate.

"When you first told me about the battle of Stanford brua, I looked into it. The berserker was indeed a notable part of it, but you also failed to mention the battle's end," Daria thought as she moved her king to f1, and leapt back off the bridge.

At this point, Amelia had ceased imagining the reenactment of Stanford brua and was focused entirely on reality and the chessboard before her. All the mattered was trying to get out of this mess and avoid total destruction. A5, queen h2, queen captures h7, queen captures h7, rook d6, queen h8, check, yet any words Daria spoke were completely ignored by Amelia. King e7, queen captures d6, check, king g8, queen h6, b3, g6, a4, g7, a3, and suddenly, Amelia was out of moves. The battle was about to end.

Brought back into the fantasy world one final time, Amelia's eyes widened as she stared at Daria off in the distance with a bow drawn and an arrow with a bishop at it's tip ready to fire.

"They say the battle ended when King Harald took an arrow to the neck. After that, the Norwegians fled in droves. Kyudou was never my strong suit, but here on the chessboard, my shots never miss," Daria declared as she let her arrow loose.

The arrow flew, and pierced Amelia's neck, while the bishop fell and landed on h7.

"Checkmate. Just like back at Stanford brua, this was a complete and total wipe of Norawy," Daria smirked as she whipped out her fan and basked in her victory.

After countless draws, an Amelia-Daria match had finally ended decisively in mate. And with Daria as the victor, it meant Japan had swept Norway 4-0, and looked to be uncatchable going into the final round.

Slam!

Daria frowned as she gazed up to notice Amelia had slammed her fist on the table. Covering her one visible eye with her other hand, she slowly unclenched her fist and extended it towards Daria for a handshake.

"This isn't over. You get wiped tomorrow, and we sweep our opponents, the gold is up for grabs," Amelia snarled under her breath as she shook Daria's hand.

"Well, at least you didn't smash the board or throw a tantrum. You fought well, but my teammates fought better."

"Yes, your team exceeded my calculations..."

And with that, Amelia got up and left without saying another word.
