Chapter 2:
7 Little Bitchies
Let me tell you a story.
A story... well, let's just say, this is the tamest story out of the seven.
The story began on my fifteenth birthday. My family and I moved out of our current house, so I couldn't see Meli for quite a while.
In our new home, I tried to start fresh. I tried to be friendly with girls and boys at my school. I became popular again at that time, but not on top, because there were students above me.
What? I'm not jealous or anything. Shut up!
Look, mate! I became friends with them, okay! It's not like I wanted to be the top back then.
Anyway!
Yeah, basically, lives were good...
Until I got my student library card.
In that period of time, I was into anime, manga, or anything about Japan. It's no surprise that I will be in the library a lot, right?
I mean, how do I rent books and DVDs if I didn't go to the library?
One week passed, and I became attached to my local library. I even had my favorite table to use whenever I want to read on the go. It was very cool to be alive at that time.
"Hey! That's my seat!"
Aaaand that's when I met her.
"Eh? Sorry?"
"That's like the holy grail of tables around the world. And it is mine!"
At that time, I was playing along with her.
"Heh, *cough* You dare sit here just because this is the holy grail of all tables?" Please don't judge me, and yes, I did just use my deep voice there. I know it was embarrassing, so just move along, alright!
"Are you... playing with me?"
"Isn't that what's happening here?"
The girl didn't cry or throw a temper tantrum, like Meli, but you know what's nutty about her?
"Then I'm just going to sit on top of you!"
Yup, instead of finding a new seat, she sat on top of my lap. Thank goodness she was small and as light as paper.
"Uwaaa, what the...?"
"I could see through your eyes", she opened her book and showed an illustration while sitting on my lap and looking at me upward, "You are one of these guys, yeah?"
"I... I don't understand", seriously, at that time I didn't understand. And to be honest, I still don't know why she would give a gnome picture to me.
"Dense, stupid, and don't understand girls' feelings", see! Please, tell me you don't understand it either.
"What?"
She then got her book back to her lap and read the book, but still replied to me, "You'll learn it someday, but now, just know that you are not worthy of this seat. I am!"
In my mind, I was like, But I'm still sitting here, you jerk.
Then I asked, "What's your problem anyway? There is literally a seat just the opposite side of this seat, you can sit in front of me."
"You won't understand peasants", she pissed me off with that comment.
"Hey, dork. I was here for the whole week, and you just showed up out of nowhere. I haven't even seen you in a week, and you just claimed this seat as yours. Like, what the..."
I shouldn't have provoked her. I know, I know. I did pay the price; she elbowed my freaking stomach with her right elbow. It was the most pain I ever had at that time. And I remembered that it was after lunch.
"Uagh. Hey!"
And I also shouldn't have shouted because the librarian just "SHHHH" me.
"Hehe, you played with the wrong woman, kid!"
"Heh? Woman? You looked about seven or eight", Me and my big mouth.
"What did you say?"
"Uwaaa, you are not?"
"I'm fifteenth. You numb head, read the room, dammit!"
"Huh? You are the same age as me?" Aaaaand my head was fried.
That was my first meeting with Nana Duari. The second was the following week.
"Huh? You here again?" I asked her because she arrived earlier than I did.
"Yes, and I won't let you retake my seat."
I was never in the right mind, but... I did respond with, "What a childish girl. Fine! I look for a new seat then."
Remember, man, never call someone small, childish, or tiny, especially a girl that actually small. You'll hurt her feelings, and you could be in danger just like I was in this scenario.
"I AM. NOT. A. CHILD!"
Then out of nowhere, she dropped kick me.
"Uh, ugh", I was sent flying for a couple of meters.
When I regained my balance, I replied, "What the hell is your problem?"
She crossed her arms and said, "If you say I'm a child again, I will choke-slam you." Remember when I said she didn't throw a temper tantrum. Yeah, I take that back.
"Ugh, fine! What's your name? I won't call you a name if I can refer to you by your name."
"Nana! Nana Duari. You?"
"Uta. Utama Karakata."
After that, somehow, some way, we became reading buddies. We were throwing a tantrum at each other, arguing with each other. It was wild, but also the tamest of the seven.
Now you might be asking, "When did you figure out Meli was on to you, Uta?"
Well, would you believe me, I met her in my local library one day? And her response to my question, "What are you doing here, Meli?" was;
"I'M HERE FOR YOU, UTA! I FINALLY MOVED HOUSE TOO."
And it is so insane meeting because I was reading manga at my favorite spot while also giving Nana a lap pillow for her to sleep on.
"WHO IS SHE, UTA?"
"Uaagh, eh? She is just my reading buddy."
"THEN WHY IS SHE SLEEPING ON YOUR LAP?"
"She was tired, I... wait... I mean, I..."
"UTA??!!"
SEE! I told you she would kill; her intense aura made me shiver. Heck, even woke Nana up.
"Oh, did I miss something?" Yes, why were you so calm, Nana? I guess she was in her deep sleep, so she barely heard anything until she woke up, but still.
"MAY I HAVE TIME WITH YOU... MISS?"
"Oh, is this the girl who is your childhood friend, Uta?"
No. I never told her that, but she got it right away.
"Huh? I never told you..."
She jumped out of her position and walked up to Meli. She whispered to Meli that still state of anger... I didn't get to hear what she whispered, by the way. I'm still curious what she whispered to Meli that day.
A couple of seconds later, Meli stopped her anger and got close to me and hugged my left arm. She said to Nana, "Stay away from him. I will prove I can do better than you!"
"Huh? What did Nana whisper to you?"
Nana walked with a style and ended up hugging my other arm.
"Hasn't it been more than a month since you and him seen each other? I am closer to him now."
"I can still prove it!"
Yup, that's how it ends. Till this day, Nana, just... Nana. She just wants to hang out with me... at least that's what I think. A part of me also thought she was onto me, so I'm not sure.
Look, the point is she still hangs out with me as a reading buddy. And occasionally, she sleeps on my lap because apparently that's the reason she likes that spot.
Nowadays, I just refer to her as a "sleepy head". You know what's funny? She actually didn't mind at all. I guess the only thing that would be annoying to her is if I called her shorty or smally. Hehe.
