The Twin Assassins

Vael encountered two girls—Zenya and Zindra, twin sisters who, in his past life, were famously known as the Twin Assassins. He watched them fight off a group of level 1 monsters with fierce determination. Their movements were sharp, synchronized, and deadly.

> "If only I could have them on my team..." he thought.

But not wanting to interact just yet, he turned away and spent the rest of the day at home, watching TV and playing games.

Two days later, on the third day of the Apocalypse, Vael got ready to go out.

Outside, he encountered several groups of level 4 monsters. Fighting them brought his XP to 200 out of the 500 needed to reach level 6.

Then came trouble: a group of level 7 monsters. Being only level 5, Vael had no choice but to retreat. Fortunately, he later came across groups of level 1 through 5 monsters, which he swiftly eliminated.

Soon, the system notified him:

> [Level 8 Achieved]

A confident smirk crossed his face.

> "At this pace, I’ll be the top of the rankings this week."

He headed to a supermarket, using his spatial ability to collect as many supplies as he could. As he scanned the aisles, he once again saw the twins—Zenya and Zindra—carefully gathering their own resources.

Suddenly, a group of men entered the store. Not wanting to get involved, Vael hid and watched quietly.

The leader of the group noticed the girls and approached them with a wicked grin.

— “Hey girls... You’re pretty cute. How about keeping me company tonight?”

Vael narrowed his eyes and thought:

> "In the Apocalypse, there are no more laws, no more police. Strength makes the rules."

The man reached out to touch Zenya, but she slapped his hand away.

Angered by her reaction, he raised his arm to hit her.

He never got the chance.

> His hand was sliced clean off.
