Chapter 5:
Murida Uchira or the dream of an empire
A loud gust awakens me. As I slowly open my eyes, I descry a clear azure light in the obscure sky of the night. This light had the shape resembling of circle filled with a stylish pattern. I felt a strong will to go toward it.
As I advanced toward the light, I gained a bit of consciousness and started to wonder why I was following this direction. I thought about going back to where I slept, but I could feel the will was genuine and not the result of any spell, so I listened to it and followed the light.
Eventually, I arrived at an old stone building, which was the source of the light. The will left me by myself and I saw the writing of a stylish X in a circle; the logo of the Letyu group. I picked up from my pocket the paper the old man had given me, supposedly containing the directions to the Letyu group’s old headquarters. I opened it; there was a drawing of the same circle-like shape filled of a stylish pattern that I had seen in the sky. I understood that I had reached my destination, earlier than expected.
I entered the old building. Around me was darkness, I could only see some old tables and furniture. There was a white rock on a marble column. I touched it and approached it near my face so I could get a closer look, but as I did, the powder from the white rock made me sneeze. I fell to the ground and dropped the rock down stairs leading to a room under. Seeking to get back the rock, I took down the stairs, coughing between each step, and faced a statue fully made of some kind of old stone. It depicted a tall woman, and around it was some inscriptions in the old Chiriha language. I could only depict some words I knew: “blood”, “the chosen one”, “resurrection”, “beware”, “power”, “light”
What did this all mean? While I was struggling to understand, I heard a noise from under my nose:
Plock!
I only then noticed the trail of blood leaking from my nose, and the drop that fell from it, on a circle of paint upon the floor. Noise emanated from the rocky girl, and I could see life and skin replacing matter and stone.
I was paralysed from fear, and could only witness the statue coming to life. It was no longer a statue; she was no longer a statue. She was standing before me.
After what felt like an eternity, she approached me and started to lick the blood on my face until it was clear as before. She then sat before me and broke the silence: “Greetings. My name is Luremu Hichinriiha, and I am demon.”.
“A… A demon!?”, I thought to myself, but before I could fully feel the fear, she followed with: “Well, I told you who I was, why won’t you do the same? It is improper for a gentleman not to greet a lady properly!”.
I am Rutohi Furudoa, but, should I even tell her?
What if she threatens me or my peers?
What if she can tell if I lie?
What if she already knows and is just playing with me?
Can she read my mind? Hello? Spare me, please?
While I was tinkering with my mind, she thought for a bit and said: “Oh, right! Maybe it is hard to acknowledge that I could be a demon, I’m sorry.”. After she said that, black wings appeared from behind her. “Here. Do you believe me, now?”, she said.
I do not want to believe her! But fate led me here. Is she going to eat my soul or something like that? Might as well die with honour then, as the proud Chiriha that I am!
I concentrated all my strength in my mouth and said: “My name is Rutohi Furudoa.”.
At least, they’ll have something to put on my grave.
