Chapter 6:

The Demon

Murida Uchira or the dream of an empire

So here it is, eh? It all might end here, for as long as I know. I should be seeing all my life before my eyes, but I’m not dying yet, so might as well keep my eyes open. I couldn’t help but glance at her large chest – I mean, if I’m going to die anyway, might as well get an eyeful, no?

Eventually, the quietness stopped yet again. She smiled and said: “Rutohi Furudoa… So be it how is called the one who freed me from this prison of stone.”

Okay, what’s going to happen now, then?

She followed with: “Thanks to you, I’m once again free and I’ll be able to bring chaos and devastation on every land anew! This realm will finally be destroyed, once and for all!”

WHAT!? What the actual fuck!? Did I just doom my entire land and people, which I put all my life into seeking to save them, because of A FUCKING NOSEBLEED?

Eh, fuck you all!

The demon spoke again, seeing the rage on my face: “Don’t worry, I’m just playing with you. I am Luremu Hichinriiha, the demon of lightning, indeed. Since you have liberated me, I shall help you and your hunger for power.”

Relief. Sweet, sweet relief. But still, she’s a demon! Why does she want to help me? What does she mean by my ‘hunger for power’? And can I trust her, in the end?

“I’m not making a deal with the devil!”, I responded.

She pouted and said: “Hmm. You do not seem to understand. I am but what you learned about demons. We call ourselves demons, however we are just angel that kept our allegiance to God, even after he was killed.”.

God… God was killed? What does this even mean? I inquired, and she told me the following words: “God is dead. They killed him.”.

-“That’s impossible! How could God die!? Who are they!? Why did they kill him!?”, I asked, in wrath and despair.

-“You already know who. You already know why. And if we don’t unite you’ll soon know how.”.

The bastards! That explains everything; without our deity, we lost our magick, our faith and the only thing that became certain was our downfall.

Suddenly, she said “Hmm…” as if interested by something, and looked at me with a seemingly lustful gaze. She then approached her head down near my chest and said: “Oh, I can see you have a lot of this kind of essence within you…”.

Eh!? That’s going a bit too fast for my liking!

She saw me blushing, laughed, and said:

-”I’m talking about Wutwille. It is some kind of powerful essence you can get when having both will and hate, just as if they had mixed.”

-“What is it capable of?”, I replied

-”Anything is possible with will, but nothing is impossible with wutwille. The wrath overcomes the reason undermining the will and gives to the will a reason to keep fighting when all hope is lost.”

-”Wow! That’s just what we need for the revolution!”

-”...The revolution?”

I then proceeded to explain in details the current situation of our world to Luremu. She eventually interrupted me when I told her about me being in the republick’s intel force:

-”We have to burn down this place.”

-”Huh!?”

-”They might have followed you. We cannot risk having the enemy putting its hands on the knowledge acquired here. Besides, I know pretty much everything there is to know on the subject, so it is not a big deal.”

-”Okay then.”

-”This will also be the occasion to teach you a basic spell; Feuer. This spell will permit you to ignite, to light something on fire. However, we have a building to burn, therefore we will need a combustible to spill in here.”

-”Should I get some alcohol?”

-”No. This will be the occasion to materialise your wutwille. If you happen to successfully materialise it, it will give us a very flammable and explosive liquid substance.”

-”That sounds great, but how can I do so?”

-”Firstly, generate some wutwille. Think about all they did, all they do, to you, to your peers. You hate them. Think about your fight, about the reasons pushing you to struggle, about all the people that support you and depend on you. You can’t let them down. Let your anger brew with your will. Secondly, you will need to materialise that will. To do so, abandon your proprioception. Focus on your mind and forget about your presence in the physical world. Take the wutwille with you, and try you hardest to jump into the physical world once again, like if you fell in a dream.”

…That feeling…

...It’s wonderful…

...Leaving the real world...

...Crafting your own force…

...And coming back to the place of my duty…

Because, in the end, it is in the real world that I must act. To be satisfied with only my mind being free would be selfish, I have brethren to save! Xиκαρ!

But back to training: I scatter some wutwille in the old Letyu headquarters, then I asked Luremu how to cast Feuer after we went outside of the building. She told me: “Hmm. Please extend your hand and close your eyes. Okay now, I want you to think about the hope you have in your cause, I want you to hope.”. As I did, I felt a warmth in my hand. “Open your eyes”, she said, and so I did. There was a small white flame in my hand. While having fire near my skin usually felt odd, this time it was nice, as if only the comforting aspect of the fire was in this feeble flame.

“This is a flame of hope. Be careful, as winds of unchanging future and rains of despair may compromise it, and you never want your flame of hope to extinguish.”, she said, “Now this is the Light variant of Feuer. Most spells usually can be used with Light magick or with Fire magick, the former being powered with hope and the latter with hate. The Light Feuer is good to have a light source or to warm up a wounded body, but it will be no use to spark an explosion. You will now cast the Fire Feuer by feeding this flame hate.”.

I closed my eyes and concentrated my hate toward my palm. I felt much more heat on my hand, just like a regular fire, but an unwelcoming one. I opened my eyes and saw a flame, one that one bigger and redder than the Light one.

“Good. Now throw it!” said Luremu.

I complied, and the old headquarters became ablaze, following an explosion that was loud enough as to advise us to run away from this town.

We laughed a lot and talked on the way north to join the rest of the club. I learned a lot of things and started questioning all the prejudices I have been told, because it seems like “demons” are friendly and linked to our kind, because using magick is maybe difficult but not as much of a conundrum as they told us it was, as it only was difficult because they took our will and hate, and most importantly, because we still have hope.

We arrived around the town, and the sun was rising. It was beautiful. I stared at it for a moment and then realised that she might have went on without me, only to realise she was by my side contemplating the sun.

We stayed like that for a while. At one point, she smiled at me and said: “You have a beautiful smile, don’t ever lose it.”. I felt happy, I think those moments, those sunrises, those smiles, they are what I’m fighting for.
