Chapter 2:

Silenced

Dragon's Laud

"Calm down kid." Says Sonja.

"Says the person thats hiding another human from parents and apparently elders. I'm not a pet and besides, I hate kids that try keeping a pet from adults and then they neglect it and kill it! I'm not starving here, where ever here is!" I protest. I need to get out of here and find my way home! What will become of Potato?

"Nonsense. I have my own place, you won't starve. It's just getting you there might be difficult." Sonja says putting her hands on her hips and popping one to the side.

"No! I have watched too many anime shows and movies to know that this will end badly for me. Well not horrible but I'm no protagonist. If anything, I'm villain material. Just take me to someone that can send me home!" I shout.

"Anime? Anyways keep your voice down." Sonja says brushing me off.

Like hell I'm staying quiet. I start screaming for help at the top of my lungs. Sonja jumps onto me to muffle my voice with her arm. If she wasn't a girl I would have thrown her off with ease.

"Kem! Silence him!" Sonja commands her brother.

"A-ah b-be quiet." Kem stutters.

I continue to make as much noise as I can.

"With authority Kem!" Sonja barks.

"Be quiet!" Kem says finding his voice.

Then I'm silenced. Sonja gets off of me huffing and puffing. I try talking just for nothing to come out. My thoughts start to race. I need to find help, I need to make noise. I'm too far away from the wall to pound on it and my legs won't bend enough for me to reach the floor. Slapping my hands together as hard as I could resulted in the sound of golf claps. At the last split second my hands will collide, they slow down resulting in a quiet clap.

I look around hoping for a way out.

"Maybe we should go to an adult." A girl pipes up. "M-my parents said that it's better to fess up right away then for them to find out later."

I start pointing almost violently towards her, pleading that others would agree with what she is saying.

"Thats the thing, they won't find out. We will send him back as soon as I get my hands on the right spell book." Sonja says still lost in thought.

I slump in defeat. No, I can't give up now. What would Potato do? She probably would be chewing on ankles but she knows my weakness. I turn to Kem and give him my best puppy dog eyes.

He whimpers and runs to hide behind his sister.

"Calm down it's not... that bad? What is wrong with your face? Do you need to poo or something?" Sonja asks giving me a questionable look.

Thinking fast that this could be my way out, I nod my head in agreement.

Sonja sighs in frustration and looks amongst the kids. "Oh Mitus you're here. Would you care to help Kem take him to the bathroom?" She takes her cloak off and throws it over me.

I peek out from under it to see a tall burly guy stepping forward, his hair is short, spiky and blue and his piercing yellow eyes were looking down at me. Welp, here's to hoping there is a window in this bathroom and he isn't in there with me.

Sonja starts whispering to the others. Kem releases the hold on my legs then I get ushered out of the attic room. Just to step into a pristine white marbled floor, high arched ceilings supported by pillars. There were multiple light grey with pops of reds, yellows and orange accented seating areas with glass windows lining the one wall that led to a even more extravagant stone patio. My jaw hits the floor taking in the view of the sunset coming in bathing everything in a warm glow.

The girls go into one door on the wall opposite of the patio and the rest of us go into one close to theirs. It's your typical public style bathroom outside of the fountain sinks, finely hand carved wooden stall doors with winged dragons and flowers intricately etched into frost windows.

There at the end of the room, was a stall with access to a window, like I was hoping for. I scurry into that one locking the door behind me. I unlatch the window and make my get away up the side of the wall.

Just as I'm on the ledge, I notice we are about three stories up. All thanks to the mountainous terrain. Luckily there are green vines growing everywhere. I grab ahold of a thick one hoping it will keep me safe and slowly test my weight on it.

"Oh! So Kem did tell you my escape plan." I hear Sonja's voice above me. I look up and completely loose my grip when I see Sonja on the back of a green dragon, clinging to the vines.

It felt like an eternity as I fell backwards. I wasn't able to let out any scream even if I wanted to. I could see Sonja yelling, grabbing the reins better and kicking the sides of the dragon as they both dove toward me. All I could focus on was this big four legged, two winged, snaggled tooth, horned dragon passing by me. Sonja grabs my arm pulling me onto the dragon just as it flaps it's wings to land gently on the ground.

Sonja holds her a hand up with a thumbs up to all the heads popping out of the windows where we were. They signal back with a thumbs up and retreat back inside. She looks back at me clinging to the dragon's back with everything I have. With a giggle she commands Maddie to take her home. I don't have time to jump off before we are in the sky. I cling even harder to Maddie.

We soar over majestic pine covered mountains, some areas near houses have other trees and rocks decorating what would be a lawn. The rivers and lakes have clear water so I can see the schools of fish and other serpents swimming in them. Rich, lush valleys with farms etched into their sides run through out the land below us. Over head a few dragons fly by carrying people and things. The sun is sinking lower now, leaving everything saturated in blue hues. All over the country side, scattered dots of lights awake in the distance.

When we start our descend it is into a thick area of trees. With grace Maddie clinges to a large pine that is missing it's top half. She then hops down not so gracefully onto the ground sending me tumbling into the dirt.

"Good girl Maddie!" Sonja praises while rubbing the green dragons neck.

"Oooo that's the spot." The dragon speaks without moving it's mouth.

I shoot backwards, propelling myself with my hands and feet till I hit a tree. "It can talk!?" I try shouting but you know, I was silenced earlier. So no one heard me.

Sonja hops off then takes off the saddle she was in. Then removed some leather and metal piece from Maddie's face and mouth. Maddie pads off into the dark after the two exchange good night wishes.

"Welcome to my humble abode!" Sonja says gesturing to a ran down wooden shack with a shutter hanging my one hing. The door didn't look much better to be honest. "Don't wonder too far. Everything in the forest will eat you or die trying to."

"Can we go back to the castle?" I mouth.

"Sure I can give you a tour. Perhaps I should call Kem. I believe commands should work over long distances. " Sonja says dragging me onto my feet. When she opens the door, the vibrations make the shutter fall onto the ground.

I'm going to pretend I did not see that. And tell myself that is place is safer than laying under a tree.
