Chapter 3:

Chapter 3: The eyeless cyclops and the yellow figure

Hastur's Reign

It's horrifying. A one eyed eyeless monster stands before us, claiming he has found me...what do I do, how do I even-
"That's what I would say...if I even had my eye still". The monster keeps walking, still roaming around the building site.

"That's Polyphemus" the woman whispers, "Haita brought him from a far away land...I feel bad for the thing, but he's still a dangerous follower of Haita's teachings".
She slowly moves towards the left, and starts signaling me to follow her.
I start to follow her as stealthily as I possibly can, while the eyeless creature, who seems to be struggling to find me as he breaks another wall on the building right across from here. My heart is raising. I don't know what's gonna happen if that thing finally finds me. Will he even be able to hunt me while being blind...is it even possible?
"Hey, be quick will you" She whispers. "If we don't get out of here, that cyclops will eat us both."
"That thing eats humans?"
"Yes, he does, now get a move on."

We keep walking steadily, the cyclops seems more and more impatient the more he smashes his club around. My palms feel so sweaty. Hearing the club breaking and tearing the walls and floor is keeping me on edge over what could happen. It's creeping me out. The lady in front of me keeps guiding, although I notice her doing some sort of prayer as we try to escape the blind giant.

Then suddenly, I notice, at the top of a building. It appears to be someone, or something, wearing yellow robes. I can't really make out his face, it appears that the person is wearing some sort of yellow garments, alongside a crown up in his head, and an upside down mask, presenting a smiling face. Suddenly, the figure raises an arm...he's holding an orb...I feel my chest ache...and I scream.

"Damn it!" She screams. The cyclops has heard my scream and as I look back up, with pain on my chest, the yellow figure is now gone. "Get back up Jason! The cyclops noticed us!"
With a powerful scream, the eyeless cyclops starts running towards us. His horse legs running at an unfathomable speed considering he's a literal giant. Thoughts of dread come through my head, as my fear of not seeing my wife strengthen, and I start running. The woman also starts running as she starts throwing knives at the large beast that is following our tails.

"Stop running away from me, you worthless human!" The cyclops screams, "I won't let you get away from me, not like "Nobody", damned human!"
This cyclops keeps screaming and spouting words as it chases us down, and the woman behind me keeps throwing the knives at this huge creature. The chase is long, we pass through the humanoid armored monsters, who seem to start running away at the sight of the blind cyclops swinging his club indiscriminately at anyone or anything standing in his way. I notice some of these soldiers take their stances and start shooting arrows towards the eyeles giant.

"This is our chance" she shouts "Quickly follow me, I know a safe place in the city!"
As the big guy is distracted by the soldiers arrows, I start following the rogue down a sewage system. It stinks, an I notice a lot of dead bodies pillaged down here.

"That mark on your chest...did your chest start feeling a burn?" She asks.
"Yeah...it hurt extremely badly...I can stop feeling the afterburn...what's happening to me? Why do I have this marking in my chest?"
"I don't know, but I do know that you've been marked as a sacrifice for Haita's god, and I can't let them take your life."
"Wait, a sacrifice? Me!?"
"Yeah, now please, don't stop walking and keep a steady pace, please, it's gonna be a long walk".

As we walk through the sewers, she introduces herself as Millia, one of the few humans left in the continent of Wallach. She explains to me that everyone else left to Rhashkh, the continent above, to save themselves from the Konkor army, an army of brutes led by Haita, the shepherd. She also explains how Haita's rule on Wallach has affected the main cities, Kharax included, and how Kharax was once one of the world's richest capitals, that is until the Konkors attacked.
"Are the armored monsters..."
"Yes, they are Konkors. Four armed brutes who only care for war and chaos. They will follow anyone who promises them riches and glory...all they care about is war..."
"What about the cyclops? Polyphemus was it? Is he also a Konkor?"
"No...he's more like a pet for them...a pet they stay away from."
"And what about the yellow figure at the top of the building an hour ago?"
"Yellow figure?" she stops his walk.

"Yeah, yellow figure...didn't you notice it? It was on top of a building right before I started screaming in pain"
Millia stays quiet before resuming our course. "We're close, keep close and don't get lost".

We keep walking, the stench of death starts dissipating, as we approach what seems to be a door...another door where it shouldn't be.
"Hey, we probably shouldn't open that door?"
"Why?" she asks "This is the safest area in the entire city, trust me if you don't want to end up like the pile of corpses we just went through."

I let out a huge sigh, and just follow her lead. She opens the door, and the room behind is just...wow. It's spacious, witha lot of decor that seems to come from old gothic architecture. It looked like an old medieval church inside.
"Here" she throws some clothes towards me. "Wear these clothes, they will keep you warm. There is also some armor in there, wear it."
"You want me to wear this now? In front of you!?"
"We don't have much time, that mark on your chest is gonna give away my home if we aren't fast"
"You live in the sewers!?"
"Just do as I say you bumbling fool."
"I can't though, not in front of you"
"Why not?"
"...I'm married"
"You idiot, I don't care if you are married to a tree or whatever, we need to be fast."
"Okay okay, geez..."

As I start to change clothes and put on the armor, Millia starts searching through a bunch of chests, looking for something. I don't really pay attention to what she's doing as I notice that the armor she gave me feels kind of heavy on my shoulders, and the cape feels kind of short. It weirdly feels comfortable, even if the armor's kind of heavy.
"Here, take this as well." She tells me as she hands me a sword. "You will need it. This sword was forged by my father...don't you dare break it."
"I will try..."

Millia stands there in silence for a few moments, staring at the sword she gave me. "Is everything alright?"
"Yes, it's nothing, quickly, follow me, we need to find another place to spend the night."
"Wait, before we go, where are you taking me."
"To see a friend, only he knows how to deal with the symbol on your chest."
She opens the door back out to the sewer. "If we don't deal with that mark, you will be killed. Now get moving, will you?"
"Wait up!"

As we start walking through the sewers, I can't help but feel as we are being watched by something. We walk for hours, until we start hearing some rustling in the water. "What was that?" I ask. "Don't you stop walking...come on."
As she says this, I can't help but notice something in the water.
Three eyes can be seen in the sewers waste, and as I start trying to get Millia's attention, the creature suddenly gets out of the water, and grabs one of my legs with it's tentacles. I take up my sword, and cut it, and as the creature starts screaming in pain, we start running as fast as we can. The creature follows us, screeching in pain as it attempts to grab ahold of us. Millia manages to cut a few more tentacles while running, the creature seems extremely pissed off at us. I don't think we are gonna be able to make it out of the sewers, when suddenly, we see light. It's the exit! But wait...there is someone right there, waiting...it's the same guy in yellow.
