Chapter 5:
Star Awesome
Vivian settled down at the table as she kept typing. Sen was looking at Riley with a raised eyebrow. Ren took a glance at Sen; he might not be a bad person, recalling Riley's words. Sen's eyes abruptly shifted onto Ren, his face remained the same stoic. How is someone this scary? His appearance is fine, but he gives me the creeps. Sen slowly took a step back, keeping his gaze fixed before finally turning. For a fleeting moment, his lips curved into a smirk as he turned around.
Ren stood there still looking at Sen's back as the former made his way to the dining table. His name.... Ren noticed something that was quite apparent about Sen. His shoulders tensed, as he mustered the courage to speak with the person who was too creepy.
"S-sen!" He called out, Riley turned her head to her side towards Ren. She shook her head, motioning no. Sen paused, tilting his head back, allowing his eyes to take a peek at the caller as if he wanted to be sure if he was called out. Maybe he isn't used to people shouting out to him, which makes me nervous.
"What is it?" Sen spoke in a mild tone, his expressions calm. He turned to face Ren.
"You-um, are you Japanese too?". Ren inquired, though Sen was not scowling, but his demeanor felt intimidating to him. Ren raised his gaze to look at Sen, who tilted his head slightly.
"Yes-" Ren's eyes widened, parting his lips to ask an obvious question, while Sen took the liberty to answer him before Ren's words even reached the tip of his tongue.
"And no, we are not from the same dimension".
Ren looked at Sen, who harbored a disappointed look. He felt like he had yet again disappointed every generation of his family. How can a single look by this person make me feel this worthless? Sen's glare intensified as he shouted.
"Listen to what I am saying!" Ren tensed, trying his best to focus; he was not ready to disappoint 'the family generations' any longer. Riley was about to say something, but Sen continued.
"We are not from the same dimension because people from the same dimension come to this world days or months apart. Riley didn't explain that to you...." Sen looked at Riley, smirking sarcastically. He directed his gaze back at Ren.
"But there is still room for exceptions, we have noticed everyone in Star Awesome comes from an orb in a Solar system with eight lifeless orbs. This green and blue orb is the third and has life on it."
Ren looked at him confused, "Why are you calling Earth an Orb?"
Sen raised his eyebrow. "So in your dimension it's called Earth, but in mine, it's called an Orb, this means we are not from the same dimension".
Some people approached the table, whispering to each other and looking at Sen, who seemed to have noticed the attention.
Sen walked up to the dining table where a few people sat, nudging one another and laughing. A blond guy who was chuckling the most called out.
"Oi Sen!... Dude, don't be so scary~"
Sen turned to take a glimpse at that guy, though his face was stoic and he was frowning, his eyes glistened.
"Yuzuru, someone has to teach this guy, otherwise it will be hard for him to fit in".
Sen walked up to him and sat down with that Yuzuru guy. Sen positioned his elbow on the table, resting his head in his palm, looking at his seatmate. Riley, who stayed quite the entire time, poked Ren as she walked up to the table. Ren followed her and sat next to her.
He nervously looked at everyone in anticipation. They must be thinking that I am a stranger. They must want to have a talk with me? Contrary to Ren's nervous anticipation, the place was mainly silent except for a few words they exchanged amongst themselves.
The seated ones didn't even bother looking at him. Those who were settling in frequently took a glance at him, while the few who approached the table kept their gaze on him for slightly longer. But no one was truly interested in the newbie, which added to Ren's nervousness.
Riley looked at Ren, and she seemed to notice his discomfort. Placing her hand over his, she leaned in. Ren went red as blood rushed through his veins. She whispered in his ear.
"They are doing this on purpose."
"Huh?" Ren didn't understand what she meant. Riley took out her phone, scrolled through the screen, and opened an app. Placing her phone on the table, she slid it slightly towards Ren and motioned for him to look.
Ren lowered his gaze. He saw a post entitled, 'the new guy'. Riley placed her finger on the phone, gently scrolling down. There was a chat going on, and the latest text read.
'Hey! let's make him nervous,' she scrolled
'How?'
'Let's give him the silent treatment.'
'let's not'
'ok'
'I am in'
'yessssss'
She kept scrolling, and texts of approval kept flashing through his eyes. But why? Ren didn't understand the reason behind such an action, though deep down he knew. But how is this even fun?
A text appeared: 'Riley ruined our fun'. Ren's eyes were fixed on the phone, and this type of childish behavior. He was hating these people; he was still in shock when a voice called out.
"Ren, we are sorry."
Ren peeked up and saw that Yuzuru was standing on his seat, looking directly at Ren. He raised his hand to his nape, allowing his long hair to tousle behind his ear, revealing many piercings.
Sen raised his hand to Yuzuru's back and slapped him. Yuzuru nervously looked at Sen, then back at Ren. And began blurting out without a pause.
"We are incredibly sorry, we didn't mean to make you feel bad, we just wanted to play around, we are ready to atone for our sins." Yuzuru gasped, then glanced at Sen, "Happy now?"
Sen looked at Ren, there seemed to be a faint smile as he spoke, "Welcome, Ren," which was followed by the chorus of voices welcoming the momentary newest member.
Ren noticed Riley looking at Sen with confusion, as she mumbled huh, so he can also treat others good. Maybe she just doesn't like too stoic type. He wanted to show me this place so that I could adjust easily. He made his friend say sorry to me. Not only did he welcome afront everyone, breaking the ice. He is, in fact, a good person, even if he can disappoint an entire generation of my family.
