Chapter 2:

The Ravens Graced Our Extinction

Lead Me To Death

"We are going to be always together, okay?" A voice always reverberated from the farthest corners of her heart.

"The snow is truly beautiful right, Yuki?"

"Everything of me belongs to someone I love, Yuki. I believe that someday you'll be able to find someone like that too, my dear."

The voices became overlapped and her vision was surrounded by complete black. 'Dreamless Dreams', a dreamer like her would call it that.

Yuki felt soft, supple skin touching hers and she woke up, rubbing her eyes and stretching her arms. It was her sister's warm body over her. It was not too long before her ears started to twitch because of the uproar caused by gunshots and explosives bursting. She covered her ears instinctively and looked around. She was surprised to find herself in a car because she had a faint memory of what happened back then. She gently turned her body to the behind of the car seat and widened her eyes at the sight of the weird pale blue-eyed guy with a bullet in his hand emitting smoke, as if he had caught it just now. His other hand held a small knife dripping in blood.

The streets were empty of silence. Yuki felt the cold wind hitting her bare arms. Her house was thoroughly heated, but the car's small space felt so chilly that she thought she'd freeze. She pulled her still asleep sister closer to herself and warmed herself, even if it was just a little bit. She glanced outside and saw the snow pile up in haste. The noise died down. The snow falling gently upon each other made a satisfying sound making her want to sleep again, which she did, shivering and cold.

Zen dealt with the strange people, asked them what they were after but no response left their lips. They flinched and tears invaded their eyes as Zen tortured them slowly but all that to no avail. Zen sighed and made them draw their final breaths and searched their cars and bikes, nothing was found. He walked back to his car and seated himself in the driver's position. He checked on his hostages, they weren't harmed. That was mostly because they had the Mafia Boss's younger child protecting them. He noticed a splotch of dryness and redness, almost like parched tears, on the younger sister's face. 'She looks so peaceful.' He narrowed his eyes and focused on driving.

Zen drove to the hideout where he resides, leaving behind the remnants of the darkest shades of grey on the whitest chaste snow. He decided to present the siblings before the boss a day after. 'It'll be a pain to deal with them when they wake up though.' Zen sighed.

Waking up from a long, long dream of fairies and unicorns, the first thing the little chick saw was the side view of her handsome kidnapper who was drinking water. The birdling was the girl named Yuki with fuzzy, unkempt, and cascading auburn hair and iridescent, enchanting round golden irises. She hastily patted her body and found her clothes intact and a warm blanket covering her. She exhaled in relief and looked around and saw a well-maintained apartment with a single bed and lustrous lights. There were several framed pictures on the beige-colored walls. One that specifically caught her eye was the picture of a little boy playing in the snow with a really attractive lady watching him intently.

"Shit, where's my sister?" She sought, thinking she was talking to herself.

"Sayuri is in another room. This is my room." She heard a husky and low-pitched voice answering her question. It belonged to the man who was now sitting on his bed and Yuki was sitting in the corner of the room, leaning on a table.

Yuki nodded and started calculating whatever was happening.

'I and Sayuri nee-chan were kidnapped by this fine-looking guy and I am in his room suddenly... alone?!' Yuki's small face turned the deepest shades of red, not that her captor could ever acknowledge that. He was literally colorblind to all colors, except yellow.

"What happened? Something wrong? I mean you were weird since I met you but your face is really deep in shades right now."

"NO, IT'S NOT!" Yuki unerringly screeched at him.

"Quiet down kid, my ears are sensitive."

"I'm not a kid. I am fifteen."

"We're two years apart. You're a kid."

"NO, I AM NOT."

"Stop yelling!"

"Well, screw that! But what am I doing in your room, alone? Bring my sister here."

"I locked your sister in the other room because she was annoying me."

"Huh?" Yuki furrowed her eyebrows and whispered out with a snarky tone.

"She was constantly imploring me to let go of her. But you've really got a bitch of a sister."

"What do you mean?! Don't insult my sister like that!"

"She asked me to do ANYTHING with you as long as I let her go."

Yuki hesitantly spoke up, "S-so what? She just wants to go, free her! I'll do anything for her."

Zen was raged. "Listen to me kid. You're too way frivolous! Don't let go of your life for someone like her. You don't know how many people will mourn for your death throughout their lives! " Zen was never irascible but just looking at the petty girl in front of him, he felt irate. Yuki saw his enticing cerulean-blue eyes narrowing with annoyance and distress.

Yuki looked down and maintained reticence as Zen laid down on his bed and faced the other side. The silence inhabited the area but not when Zen finally spoke up, "Go to sleep again or something."

"Hm?" Yuki looked up from the ground and mumbled.

"It's four a.m., we have to head out at 10 tomorrow."

"To where?"

"You'll see."

"But I am not sleepy at all."

"Then do whatever. Let me sleep. Also, you can't escape, there are 20 security guards behind this door."

"Okay..."

Zen drifted back to sleep and Yuki stared at the light ochrous wall. She didn't know how long she had been ogling the wall with a thoughtless mind.

'What am I even doing here? I want to go home... Back to dad's arms, the scent of roses, and the comfort of my futon. Wait... doesn't this seem like a scene cut from an anime?!' As much as Yuki felt strained, her heart gave away the feelings of excitement and exhilaration. 'Wait, I never asked him for his name.'

Yuki disregarded the topic and a shimmering light returned in her eyes as she began to dream of things farther than the universe, fairytales, and fables. A land which God doesn't rule, but her subconscious does. A land where humans have butterfly wings and no such thing as cruelty or malice exist. A land where melodies and hymns imbricate, creating a ballad for her, she who believes in her love. And so as the night crumbled-

Yuki's reverie was interrupted by an ear-splitting sound, likely to be the sound of the boy's alarm clock. The captor woke up and rubbed his eyes slightly. He looked over to her, and spoke in a raspy and sensuous voice, "What are you doing?" while tapering his alluring ocean eyes.

The girl's face turned rubescent and she stuttered, "N-nothing at all, literally."

'I was totally not staring at him for hours dreaming while painting my composure but when he woke up with the hottest bed hair and coarse yet soft voice, I started losing my shit.'

He looked at her in a perplexed manner and shrugged the weird feeling off. "I am going to take a shower. Look at the clock."

Yuki gazed over and saw the clock reading at 8:00 a.m. "There's still two hours before I get sold or something," Yuki mumbled to herself.

"I am not going to sell you, don't worry," Zen said to her.

"HOW DID YOU SHOWER SO FAST?"

"It's been twenty minutes since you've been staring at the clock, idiot."

"He's so handsome..." Yuki thought in her mind.

"Do you people just say that casually? Can't relate."

"HUH? Did I say that out loud?! How embarrassing!" Yuki covered her face.

"What are you getting all flustered for? Do you not want a bath? You look filthy."

"That was rude but okay."

Yuki stood up and felt pain in her legs so she dropped down almost immediately. "Ugh." She tried to get up but failed. She sighed and looked over to her kidnapper who was shaking his head like a dog to get rid of the water droplets. "Ne, can you help me?"

"With what?"

"I can't stand."

"You have leg injuries? You were able to stand before."

"It's not that. I've been sitting here for quite a long time. My legs have gone numb."

"Damn you're weak. Here." He walked over to her and offered his hand. Yuki grasped his warm and rough hands gently and stood up while fidgeting a little. "Thanks, dude. By the way, what's your name?"

"You don't need it but it's Zen."

"It's your first name, right? What's your last name?"

"I don't have one."

"Pretty suspicious but okay. My name is Yukihara Yuki!"

"'Kay." 'I feel like I've heard that Yuki name before...' Zen wondered.

"You're too boring." Yuki puffed her cheeks.

"Go and take a shower or I will take you squalid and filthy."

"Yeah yeah."

Yuki was well aware that she wouldn't get new clothes but she asked anyway, "What should I change into?"

"I don't have girl clothes duh. Just wear whatever your attire is right now."

"Tch." Yuki clicked her tongue and rushed to the bathroom in the corner of the room.

"Get in the car," Zen commanded.

'It's almost as if he's trying to get some kids in a van.' Yuki thought and chuckled lightly.

"What?" Zen questioned.

"Nothing."

Zen forced Sayuri into the car and Yuki just remained silent. It was because she knew that she couldn't do anything.

The entire car ride, Yuki endured the awkward silence by creating a fanciful land in her mind. 'Come to think of it. This Zen person has been pretty kind to me for my abductor. What if I get murdered here? What about my revenge for Ayumi?' Her mind was getting clouded by thoughts, too vindictive and naive.

'It's my final day here, finally...' Zen was so relieved that he wanted to ditch and sleep on his bed for hours.

The car suddenly came to a halt along with Zen and Yuki's thoughts. Without announcing, Zen and Yuki took hold of their respective car doors and exited the car. Yuki helped her sister get up. Her sister was in a trance, which was seen by Yuki almost every single day. She didn't mind it though.

Zen walked into an alleyway, reticent and taciturn, with the siblings following him. Zen caught the stare of every thug in the area, Yuki was surprised that they weren't eyeing the girls. 'Has society changed or something while I was in my room locked up for so many months?'

Zen whispered loud enough for his companions to catch, "Follow me into here, Sayuri."

"Eh? What about me?" Yuki whispered back as a question.

"I'll get you in ten minutes or so."

"Okay."

With that, Zen walked off into the dark shadows along with Sayuri and not even an inch of their silhouette was then visible. Yuki's legs trembled from the cold and fear. Terror seeped into her soul as she quailed. There was no one around her in the silent lane. All of a sudden, a big hand grazed her shoulder, and already frozen in her tracks, she tearfully looked behind herself.

"Ah Miss, do you know anyone by the name Zen here?"
