Chapter 10:
Eternal Flame
“What the hell just happened?” Sandra stood there, dumbfounded that Aiden had just vanished.
“He teleported to his sword.” Vel said, “I saw him do it when he battled Elric.”
“Hybrid weapons hold many secrets,” Orren said.
“We should not waste time.” Vel said, “We need to start evacuating.”
“There will be humans where Aiden ended up,” Sandra said.
“Do not worry, I am sure he will help them.” Vel said as she walked out the door.
“Veltheryn! You’re all healed?”
“What’s with the alarm?”
“Where is dragon boy?”
“What’s with the rumbling?”
The other dragons hastily fire questions at Vel.
*RRRRUMMMMBLLLEEE*
With a bigger rumble, the dragons looked up.
“Settle down.” Vel said, “This place is no longer safe; we need to get all the dragons and humans out of here.”
“Where will we go?” One dragon asked.
Vel thought for a moment.
“Orren,” Vel looked at him, “Which one of the portals out of here goes to that forest?”
“The one in here. But why go back there?” Orren asked.
“There is a safe place. Where I hid as a child.” Vel said as she looked at the portal on the other side of the room.
*RRRUMMBBBLLLLE BOOM*
“All strong dragons, help the others and the humans when they get here!” Vel said with a commanding voice.
*BOOM BOOM BOOM*
“We must hurry!” Vel is now sounding anxious. “Orren, you go through. You can help keep everyone calm.”
“This old man will try his best,” Orren said with a smile as he led some of the humans who showed up towards the portal.
Dragons came filling in from the hallway that’s near the portal where their living quarters are.
“Quickly, through here!” One of the dragons instructed them.
*KABOOOOM*
The ceiling opened up, and rocks and dirt came crumbling down. It happened right in front of the open big doors, blocking them. Screams could be heard from the other side. A dirt cloud fills the room.
“Found you.” A voice came from the dirt cloud, along with flashes of purple.
“It’s Elric!” Orren yelled as he ushered some humans that had made it through the doorway, and some smaller dragons that had yet to go through the portal.
“Still alive, old man?” Elric asked all cocky.
“As am I!” Vel roared as she swiped at him under the cover of the dirt cloud.
Elric went to block with his spears, but was surprised by the strength she had that the spears got knocked away like nothing. Her dragon hand made contact against his side, throwing him across the room into the wall.
*BAM*
“GO!” Vel yelled to Orren and the rest who were still in the room.
Eight spears came flying out towards the humans and dragons that were escaping and pierced six humans and two dragons.
“NOOOOO!!” Vel roared and went to lunge at Elric again, but was stopped midair when a purple bubble surrounded her.
“Tsk tsk tsk. Did you forget what my magic can do?” Elric smugly said.
A beam of fire came flying at Elric; he dodged but barely.
“You can breathe fire?” Elric was surprised. Vel shot out more fire at him, but again he dodged. “This won’t do.” He waved his hand, and Vel froze; she couldn’t even move her mouth.
“MMMHHHHHMMMMNNNN!” Was all Vel could manage. All she could do was move her eyes.
“What was that?” Elric asked teasingly, “I couldn’t quite catch that.” He started laughing, “I’ll have to thank… Aiden was it? It was he who made me think of immobilizing my captive fully.” He was strutting around her, “Oh! And what have we here?”
Vel looked over and saw a handful of humans and dragons frozen in fear. Orren, along with a big dragon, were trying to get them to move.
“How I hate to leave a job unfinished.” He snapped his fingers, and his spears went flying towards them. The big dragon saw and got in front of everyone, holding out his wings. All eight pierced him in the back.
“Go… go…” Vel heard the dragon say before collapsing. Everyone he was protecting had gone through the portal.
“GRRRRR!” Vel growled and started to cry.
“Now, what shall I do with you? I’m supposed to bring you back, and apparently, I shouldn’t have tried to kill you before. But they didn’t say it needed to be in one piece.” Elric grinned. “What limb should I cut off? Maybe a wing? Maybe a leg?”
Suddenly, the rocks and dirt that were blocking the door exploded, and a sword came flying through, just missing Elric and slamming into the wall next to the portal. Elric looked and saw a pair of blue glowing eyes coming through the dirt cloud that had just formed.
“It’s about time—“ Elric was cut off mid-sentence by Aiden’s fist colliding with his face and flying into a wall. The newly formed dirt cloud concealed Aiden’s movement.
“KHAA!” Blood came from Elric’s mouth from the impact.
“Let’s get you free, Vel.” Aiden made his hand glow blue and touched the purple sphere around Vel, causing it to disintegrate. Vel landed on her feet, slightly dizzy from not being able to move.
“Thank you, Aiden.” Vel got closer to him. He put a hand on her long neck to comfort her.
“You have more tricks up your sleeve this time around.” Elric wiped the blood from his mouth.
“Vel,” Aiden whispered, “There are still some humans back there. I need you to get them through the portal while I fight Elric.”
“What about you?” Vel sounded concerned.
“I’ll be fine. Promise.” Aiden smiled at her.
“Enough whispering!” Elric yelled and started running towards them with his eight spears floating around him.
“Now,” Aiden said to Vel as he teleported to his sword, pulled it out of the wall, and threw it at Elric. Just as it was about to reach Elric, Aiden teleported to the sword again, spun in mid-air, aiming for Elric's neck.
"This again?" Elric grinned as he blocked Aiden's sword with three of his spears.
Aiden also grinned as he made his sword glow blue and took another swing, again being blocked by three spears, but this time cracking them. Elric's eyes went wide.
"Always full of surprises." Elric uses his other spears to attack Aiden, making him jump back.
"Aiden! They are through! Come!" Vel yelled to Aiden.
"You go!" Aiden yelled back with his back towards her.
"Not without you!" Vel replied.
“I need to end this with him! There are more Knights! I have to prove to myself that I can do this! Now GO!” Aiden yelled as he kept his eyes on Elric.
“Fine,” Vel said after a few moments, “I better see you again.” She then begrudgingly went through the portal.
“It had to be this way. At least you will survive if I end up dead.”
“How pointless.” Elric shakes his head. “I can just follow her through the portal after I kill you.”
Aiden grinned and formed six blue fireballs, throwing them around the border of the portal.
“Like I would let that happen.” Aiden made them explode with the flick of his hand.
