Chapter 31:

Ramble of the Week #4 (Negative Post) [Upin & Ipin Universe]

Am I losing Interest in Writing?

This is my first time witnessing something horrendous.
No, we're not talking about Ironmouse's situation, but I want to talk about the Upin & Ipin game situation.

I... I lost for words how big corporate works these days and ages. I get it, okay, we love money, but come on, dude, you don't need to be greedy about it.
You might not know this, but basically, a beloved cartoon that has been airing since 2007 was getting a game. We, all Southeast asian, were hyped about it... But when the game dropped, it was a catastrophe.

From the game's pricing, glitchies, copyright claim, and the workplace. It was just mind-boggling.
It felt massive compared to Ironmouse's situation. It is diabolical to say this was just a blunder. It's more like a disaster.

Ok, first of all, the pricing. Do you want to know why we were furious?
Get this!
Dreadout - Rp 131,000~Rp 246,000 (There was a remastered version for the previous two games, so I'm just going to list it like this)
A Space for the Unbound - Rp 100,000
Troublemaker - Rp 135,000
Coral Island - Rp 245,999
Coffee Talk - Rp 85,000~Rp 100,000 (Same as Dreadout, it has a sequel that has a higher price)

So, I just listed some of the Indonesian games. Notice all of them don't go beyond Rp 300,000? Or in USD, that's about $18 ~ $19.
And imagine our surprise that the Upin & Ipin game was listed with a price of Rp 655,000. Or in USD, that's about $39 ~ $40
Like, what the fuck? Are you guys madmen?

That was unbelievable beyond belief, like I get it, it's supposed to be an IP game... but this is not how you treated the Southeast Asian, man. You dev supposed to realize that we also broke like you. Don't squish money out of people who love an IP like this. It's not cool. Our exchange rate is already declining, and you are expecting us to buy the game at a double-A game pricing? Heck nah man. You can go fuck yourself.

Then the glitchies.
I saw some gameplay from people who bought the game and clips that were going around on YouTube.
To say this is a double-A game is laughable. It is herredous.
I don't need to talk about it too much; I'm just going to let you guys see it for yourself on YouTube.

Oh, talking about YouTube. Did you guys know this game has the most annoying auto copyright system?
There are more than 1 copyrighted music within the game, and it's not even original to the IP. Those musics have automatic copyright claims, and when people tried to refute the claim, they were denied.
Do you see where I'm getting at here? They were literally robbing the ad revenue from content creators who play the game on YouTube.
YES! They are doing it on purpose, and they lie about it on their Discord. They said they didn't know about it, but still claim the video. If they didn't know about it, then why the fuck didn't they remove the claims, right? They purposely set a trap to get this easy money from the content creators. It is disgusting.

Oh, do you know what's more disgusting? THEY DIDN'T EVEN PAY THEIR EMPLOYEE.
The employee left after the game "finished" developing. That's just insane, right?
It was like a typhoon in there.

Humiliation felt like an understatement if I had to describe this company. Streamline Studio is done. I hope they burn to the ground because of this. They don't know how to make a good game, and they are greedy about it, too.
Bear in mind, we wouldn't be so cruel if they just released it in Southeast Asia's standard pricing. Dreadout has glitchies too, you know, and we were cool about it.
But they went all-out and sank harder than VShojo.

I want to shine light on this because of how this became such a mess in the gaming space, at least in Southeast Asia. This should be talked about more because it is something to be studied in history.

That's the ramble of this week, hope you have a good week. See you next time.
