Chapter 21:

The Hidden Journal

Planting Roots in Another World

Morning light filtered through Greenwood’s great oak, casting shadows on Thalion’s tree-house. Akira, Elara, and Hana climbed the winding stairs, the air thick with the smell of old books and herbs. Thalion’s library was a maze of shelves, scrolls spilling over tables, their edges curled like autumn leaves. Elara’s hands trembled, her green cloak brushing the floor as she followed Thalion to a dusty corner.

Somewhere here,” Thalion said, his voice low, “is a journal from the Starweave guardians. It might tell us about Aeloria and Vaelar.”

Elara’s eyes widened. “My parents… You’re sure they were guardians?

Thalion nodded, pulling a leather-bound book from a shelf. Its cover was etched with starbloom patterns, faded but glowing faintly. “They were druids, tasked with protecting the Starweave Relic. They vanished during a mission to the Crystal Vale, a far-off place with magical springs.”

Akira watched Elara, her face torn between hope and fear. “What happened to them?” he asked.

Thalion opened the journal, its pages crackling. “They went to seal a rift—a tear in the world’s magic. It was dangerous. They never returned.”

Elara’s breath caught. “So they didn’t… abandon me?

No,” Thalion said, his eyes kind. “They loved you. The journal says they left you with your grandmother to keep you safe.”

Hana stepped closer, touching Elara’s shoulder. “I lost my husband years ago, Elara. I know the ache of not knowing. But they wanted you protected. That’s love.”

Elara nodded, tears falling. “I just want to know why they didn’t come back. Are they alive? Did they leave something for me?

Akira took her hand, his voice steady. “We’ll find out. If they went to the Crystal Vale, that’s where we’ll go.

Thalion turned a page, revealing a map of glowing springs and ruins. “The Vale’s a week’s journey, through deep forests. The starbloom grove’s whispers might be their message, carried by the book’s magic.”

Elara traced the map, her fingers shaking. “What if they’re gone forever? What if I’m chasing nothing?

Akira hugged her, his warmth calming her. “You’re not chasing nothing. You’re chasing truth. I was scared of bringing Mom here, but you helped me. Now I’m helping you.”

Hana smiled, her eyes soft. “You’re brave, Elara. Like my Aki. Whatever you find, we’re your family now.”

They spent hours reading the journal, learning Aeloria’s herb spells and Vaelar’s starbloom rituals. The whispers, Thalion said, might be their magic lingering in the grove. “The Crystal Vale holds answers,” he said. “But it’s a hard path.”

As they left, the village bustled, elves tending fields. Akira and Elara walked to the starbloom grove, its glow brighter now. Elara listened, her hands glowing faintly. “I hear them,” she whispered. “It’s like they’re calling me.”

Akira held her close, the grove’s light warm on their faces. “We’ll go to the Vale. We’ll find them, or their message. I promise.”

Elara leaned into him, her voice soft. “Thank you, Akira. I’m not afraid of you here.”

The grove hummed, its whispers a quiet song. Akira felt Elara’s hope, Hana’s support, and the village’s trust behind them. The Crystal Vale was far, but their journey was just beginning.
