Chapter 14:

The Secret of Princess Melissa

The Devourer of Destiny

At that time, Prince Royce of the Northern Kingdom was still very angry because of Mahendra, though truthfully, Mahendra had nothing to do with him. After being warned by the princess, Royce decided to look for him again, and he arrived at the door of the room.

The sound of a conversation between a man and a woman could be heard inside the room. Royce, who was merely eavesdropping, immediately jumped to conclusions. The longer he listened, the greater his negative assumptions became.

"Mr. Mahendra, please forgive me profoundly today."
"No need to apologize. You... wait a moment, is this... Princess Melissa?"
"Ah... sorry."

The two people accompanying Prince Royce at that time also listened. In the end, they couldn't hold back, and Royce immediately kicked open the door, which was actually unlocked. Instantly, the two people inside the room spontaneously turned towards the sound.

Royce and his companions were shocked to find Mahendra holding Princess Melissa's hand. No, actually, he was just holding her wrist slightly. There was only a small distance between them, which made Royce perceive it as very intimate. Royce was overly dramatic due to his jealousy. And he also saw Mahendra's open clothing, which made his assumptions even wilder and worse.

"What are you doing?! You're absolutely barbaric!" Royce shouted, pointing at Mahendra. Then he just left. "I will report this to His Majesty the King."

After realizing that Royce had discovered their meeting, Mahendra and Princess Melissa looked at each other. After a few seconds, Mahendra quickly pulled his hand back and maintained his distance again.

"Don't put too much pressure on yourself. You're just exhausted, that's why sometimes your magic loses control," Mahendra said.

"Thank you, Mr. Mahendra. I will never forget your kindness. You truly are the person many have been waiting for," she said.

"It's just a coincidence. I also once experienced something similar, and it was caused by pressure or stress."

In truth, all they were doing was diagnosing Princess Melissa's complaints. Although Mahendra had minimal experience in the medical field, somehow, with his devourer power, he was able to discern the problems within the woman's body.

"If you want to leave, then go. I will deal with that rude man," Princess Melissa said with a smile.

Mahendra then unhesitatingly left through the secret staircase. On his way to the ballroom, Mahendra briefly thought about Royce's arrival.

"He can easily pass through a royal princess's room. Does he have authority that allows him such freedom? Who is he really?"

However, there was no point in thinking about it further. Mahendra, who had hastily buttoned his white shirt, quickly entered the ballroom quietly and then dragged his senior out.

"Eh, Mahendra? My junior, what happened to you? Where have you been?""I just went to the toilet."
"Then where's your black suit?"

At the ballroom's doorway, they paused their walk. When the senior said it, Mahendra suddenly realized he had left his black suit jacket in the princess's room.

"Senior, we have to go."
"Your clothes also look disheveled. Did someone bully you?"
"Senior, my clothes are messy because I accidentally fell. Let's go."
"Eh? Really?"

The shortcut Princess Melissa showed was truly excellent; Mahendra, who had taken his senior away, was no faster than Prince Royce, who had just arrived and met King Charles.

"Greetings, Your Majesty King Murcia, I wish to report something concerning Princess Melissa, my fiancée."
King Charles remained silent, looking at Royce.

"Tonight, I accidentally overheard Princess Melissa talking with a man in her room. I want that man to be punished severely immediately."

King Charles merely smiled, thinking that Princess Melissa had managed to win over Mahendra in a few hours. He even deliberately ignored Royce's words, not commenting on it at all. Soon after, Princess Melissa reappeared at the party.

"Nonsense. I was merely being treated by that person. On the contrary, you are the one who should be severely punished for intentionally destroying my room door," Princess Melissa said firmly, glaring at him.

Instantly, everyone was taken aback by the princess's statement that she was being treated. The guests were abuzz because it turned out the 5th Princess, who had disappeared during the party, was actually ill.

"What?"
"You heard it. Prince of the North, you might be assuming too much."

The 5th Princess, Melissa, was the youngest child of King Charles and the late queen. She was a child of extraordinary intelligence and possessed incredibly powerful fire magic, so powerful that her body sometimes struggled to keep up.

From a young age, she was pampered as the youngest child. When she was 3 years old, her magic awakened and nearly burned her body. For months due to the magic, she had to stay confined indoors, focusing on healing herself. Melissa, like a bird in a cage, grew bored and eventually escaped.

When she left her home, her illness recurred; as if her magic and the sun's rays resonated with each other, fire consumed her again. From that day on, magic teachers and healers always came to the palace to cure her and teach her to control her magic.

As time passed, she began to control it and eventually could move freely wherever she wanted. Although her body sometimes felt hot, she just considered it a side effect of her powerful magic. However, she didn't know that her magical fluctuations were still not perfectly controlled, until she met Mahendra.

"How was it? Why was it over so quickly?" her father asked his daughter.

Princess Melissa replied, "I failed. Please forgive me, Father."

"How could that be? Didn't he see it?" he thought, looking at Prince Royce, who had moved away from them.

"That's not just an excuse, it truly happened. I failed because Mr. Mahendra is a man who respects me deeply. Not only did he restrain his desires, but he even cured my illness."

"Is that true?"

"Yes, Father. My body, which sometimes felt hot, doesn't feel it anymore."

"My goodness, he's not just a powerful magician. We truly owe him our gratitude. Where is he?" he whispered softly, asking.

"It seems he's not comfortable facing crowds of people, perhaps that's why he's already left."

"We are indebted to him. Tomorrow we will invite him personally."

In Princess Melissa's mind, she felt that Mahendra would never appear again, especially after learning his true identity.

***

Before the party celebrations ended, Mahendra, who had dragged his senior away, suddenly forgot something. Midway to the dormitory, Mahendra rummaged through his pants pockets.

"I forgot it," Mahendra said, looking at his senior and showing his gift box.

"Geez, how could you forget? Did you have a stomach problem or something that made you go to the toilet for so long and even forget this?" his senior asked, annoyed, pointing at the gift box then shaking his head.

"If I tell him the truth, he'll definitely be angry with me."

The male senior, who was very caring towards Mahendra, then let out a long sigh. Folding his arms across his chest, he tried to calm down.

"Mahendra, my youngest junior. Can you explain what really happened?" He asked again, observing Mahendra from head to toe.

His hair, which looked dyed, was sticking out messily, his black suit was nowhere to be found, and his white shirt was wrinkled, with even the top button incorrectly fastened. This appearance, looking more like a thug, made the senior click his tongue.

"I know this." The senior whispered softly. "After you disappeared, not long after, the 5th Princess also disappeared in the middle of the party," he said with a smile.

The senior raised an eyebrow and looked at the man suspiciously. Mahendra spontaneously averted his gaze with an uneasy expression.
