Chapter 3:
Transported in Another World as a Zombie Hunter
[Quest - Kill three zombies. Failure will alert the horde of zombies to your position!]
[Reward: Baseball bat and +1 level]
[Number of zombies killed - 1 ]
I was reminded of my main quest, so I made up my mind. If I wanted to survive in this apocalyptic world, then I might as well follow these voices inside my head. My task was straightforward. I just had to exterminate these two zombies and find my way outside. And by murdering these undead people, I would receive a reward and earn enough experience points to level up.
I took two bricks from each of my hands and went near the hallway. All I had to do was to lure these undead creatures to a corner and defeat them one versus one. If I ever got in a situation where I had to fight the two of them, maybe I could survive. But the risk was too exponential, so I’d rather use my stealth attack and kick them from behind.
I crouched and lessened any noise I could produce as I went close to the middle of the hallway. From there, the two shadows from each flank were completely visible, and their sounds became more evident than usual.
“All I have to do is to throw the brick at the zombie and…”
Before I could make another move, I made a blunder. These zombies, just like NPCs from the games, surveyed the area. And then, they ran. The left zombie scrambled to the right corridor, only to find me crouching in the middle. When the zombie noticed my presence, it immediately let out a violent shriek and notified the undead from the right of my existence.
“SHIT!”
The only weapons I had with me were two bricks and my fist. But my bare hands wouldn’t cut it. One bite could kill me or infect me, so I had to be careful with my movement.
Time was of the essence, so instead of running away, I faced them head-on and hoped for the best. Even if I raced back and gathered more bricks, the situation wouldn’t become lighter. I needed to fight my fear and accept whatever occurrence awaited me.
I threw one brick at the left side zombie and used the remaining brick to kill the incoming zombie! Just like before, I smashed the clay against the zombie’s face on the right side and took him down.
Now, the only problem was the butler, the left side zombie. As soon as he recovered from the brick I had thrown, the zombie found me and chased me down. I didn’t want to leave the area, so I rolled to the side and collected the brick I had hurled a while ago. I just launched it at the zombie, and that didn’t break the clay, so it was still usable.
Crafty. That was my middle name. In this kind of situation, I needed to use everything in my resources to survive. Although there were bundles of hardened mud from where I got this from, I needed to outrun this zombie. It was too risky! Instead, I used the brick and ultimately ended the third zombie, leaving me an abundance of rewards after accomplishing my quest.
[Congratulations on taking down three zombies and finishing the quest!]
[You are now level 2!]
It seemed my stats increased, as well as my overall energy, strength, durability, and speed. Some sort of power coursed through my vein, and I was just still level 2! I could imagine what kind of things I could unlock and feel when I would increase my level! But that was a problem reserved for later.
Similar to what had happened before, a radiant light enticed my curiosity. And when I approached the left zombie, which was the butler I killed, a baseball bat emerged from my right hand and equipped itself with me.
[Rewards are currently being given…]
[You have unlocked “Baseball Bat”]
[New Side Quest has been unlocked! Reach level 5 and upgrade your weapon!]
[Reward: Baseball Bat with Nails]
[Baseball Bat - Small damage against monsters! This bat is indestructible, and you will never lose it! The Baseball Bat will serve as your melee weapon! You can toggle to activate or deactivate your melee weapon!]
The Baseball Bat came from my world and was now in my hands. To top it off, this melee weapon cannot be destroyed, unlike any other tools from the game. Well, it was better that way. I also assumed that the more levels I gained and the more quests I accomplished, the better the rewards I would receive.
Not to mention, I also had a new side quest, which was leveling up and reaching level 5. If I kill thirty zombies or more, maybe I could achieve that level before leaving this castle. I couldn’t wait to get my hands on that Baseball Bat with nails on top of it! Nails would bring extra damage to my enemies, which was one of the dream weapons I could ever have in this zombie world.
I wondered when I could get myself a chainsaw or a shotgun with infinite ammo. Once again, I would cross that bridge when I saw one. For now, the Baseball Bat would do.
I also gained 40 Credits and experience points to boot. I was becoming stronger every time I dealt with these zombies. And richer. I was currently sitting at 60 Credits. I had no idea what 60 Credits could give me, so I placed that thought aside and worked on my next move. And if this continued, maybe I could use this castle to grind more of these buffoons. But I would undergo problems with food, water, and a place to sleep, so I scrapped the idea out of my mind and focused on what was ahead of me.
“Sweet…. Still, this is a fucking horror house. Among all the worlds I could be reincarnated, this place is filled with zombies… What happened before the outbreak… And where is anybody?”
From the looks of it, the people… the undead I fought were bitten only a few hours ago, meaning this place most likely had survivors in it. I gotta find some new allies to explore this place. Then again, finding more people would mean conflicts within a group, so I needed to be smart in choosing who I could bring and help.
“For now, let’s see what the omniscient system has to say about the situation… and what kind of quest it would give me.”
As I lingered for the screen to change, a bunch of zombies growled at the end of the right hallway. From that place, there was a gate I had to go through. Fortunately, that was my last stop, and I could find the stairs at the end of that place. It won’t be long until I can reach the second floor… and then the first floor, where I could successfully escape this place.
Coincidentally, that was what my system wanted to do.
[New Quest has been activated!]
[Escape from the castle through the front gates]
[Reward: a gun]
The reward was a gun. However, the system didn’t tell me what kind of gun I would have, which was no fun. But that was still a gun, regardless of class or type. It could be any gun, like a Glock or a magnum. Who knows?
Before anything else, I quickly returned to where I came from and collected two bricks, just in case. I would never know when I could need this hardened mud. And it was best to have it with me. Woefully, I could only carry one brick at a time, compared to earlier. But… Well, whatever. As long as I had my brick in one hand and a Baseball Bat in the other, maybe I could find my way outside this hellish place.
Also, I grabbed the burning wood on the side and used it as a flashlight. Magically, something happened. As soon as my hand touched the torch, it became a literal and automatic flashlight attached to my collar, which effortlessly guided my way. There was an unlit portion of the castle up ahead. And thankfully, this flashlight solved a part of my problem.
Amidst it all, my feet waddled like a duck as I imagined myself coursing through this castle like a badass with the help of my system. It was everything that I had ever wished for. And now, my life had become intense once more.
