Chapter 1:

Chapter 1: Solestar Academy

My Ideal Grimoire

“B-Big Sister?! Ah right, yeah Big sis! How are you doing ?”
Kiba said, his eyes focusing on the supposed big sister he had. He didn't have a big sister, this didn't make any sense to him. No, it never made sense to him.
This made it even more clear to him, this wasn't his world. This wasn't even his realm. This was an unknown world he had stepped foot into.
A world in which he had a sister, and a caring mother. He looked around utterly confused, why had she woken him up.
The sister now known as Mirei walked towards him, grabbing him by the head, and softly rubbing her hand on his hair. Getting rid of his bed hair, she smiled softly as she grasped him. Her lips curving slightly.
“Alright Baby bro, it's time for your big day, you're joining [Solestar Academy] today after all.”
[Solestar Academy]? What was that, by the name it seems to be a school, but there was no chance. After all, he was almost graduating so why was she calling it his big day? He stood up and looked at the mirror. He seemed way younger. Like two years.
“H-Huh?” Kiba looked at his room's mirror. Before he quickly focused, he couldn't let his supposed sister be confused at his behaviour.
“What's wrong Kiba ? Ah, it doesn't matter! Get ready already, your uniform is in the closet. I put it there last night when you went out.”
Mirei walked out of the room, her steps soft and rapid. She immediately entered her own room. Kiba was now alone. He quickly walked towards what seemed to be his room. Finally having a broader view of it.
First, what he knew. This clearly wasn't his world. He was somewhere unknown to him. A world similar to his but that wasn't. Secondly, he was way younger than before. If he was 18, he would be 15 now. A first year, Great he'd have to go through high school once more.
But, that wasn't the problem right now. As Kiba slowly moved to the locker, his eyes focused directly into the uniform before him.
“[Solestar Academy], that's what it says on the badge…is that a quill? Huh? And a small page on the sleevee…”
The Solestar Students had a special uniform, perfect fit for a world where books make you King. Where the pen is stronger than swords and guns.
The male uniform had a distinct appearance, the jacket was a military cut tunic with a high collar, silver piping along the shoulders and cuffs. The buttons are styled like miniature scroll seals.
The trousers are black pressed slacks with subtle ink-blue stripe down each side alongside reinforced knees, clearly intended for combat and movement.
Alongside were gloves, black leather gloves with a special circle embroidered into the palms. There's a small text written on it: “Only for Duels.”
At the chest area of the jacket was the school logo, a star. A star currently ongoing [SuperNova].
On the right chest, there was a pocket area, it is known as the Ink Storage Pocket, at least that's what it seemed like due to the amount of ink capsules that were inside of it.
It is a hidden, sealed compartment lined with protective leather, it holds small vials of what seems to be enchanted ink. After all, ink doesn't glow does it? What enchantments it had. Kiba doesn't know yet.
Another thing he has noticed is that a silver clasped loop stitched near the lapel secures a quill.
“Why a Quill though?” Kiba asked himself as he looked at it. He went to inspect the uniform further, playing around with the hems of the jacket, only to find something rather surprising.
“Are those ? Pages ? They're very small, almost compact…why ?”
Another unknown accessory. They were inside the cuffs of the uniform jacket, three miniature pages, slotted flat beneath a reinforced button tab.
“And what's more weird is this book…that's that old dudes book isn't it?”
But before Kiba could continue, Mirei entered his room.
“Come on Kiba ! You're killing me, you're killing your sister! Please get ready already! You're gonna be late!”
Kiba quickly grabbed the uniform and began clothing himself. After a minute, he was fully clothed. He did have some difficulty putting it on. He grabbed what seemed to be his already done bag. And just as he was about to sprint off. His sister grabbed him.
“Kiba, your book. You need it idiot.”
Mirei said, a sigh escaping her lips. She let go of him and handed him the book, the old man's book. He wanted to argue that this wasn't his, however. How was he going to explain that this book sent him to this world?
He simply nodded and put the book in his bag, and then rushed out. Mirei screamed:
“BYE LITTLE BRO! JUST GO STRAIGHT AND THEN TURN LEFT! YOU CAN'T MISS IT! IT'S A BIG GATE!”
Kiba nodded and began sprinting as his sister said, on his sprint he began noticing students with the same uniform as him.
Following them, he arrived at a gate. At the gate there was a pair of towering iron doors, carved with unknown words no student could truly read. As the students approached. A guard suddenly appeared from a door that suddenly appeared in the air. It was as if space itself was cut for this door.
The guard stood still, staring at the students with a cold expression. After a while, a total of 300 students were present. Finally, the man spoke:
“Welcome, Solestar Academy First Years, you've chosen to be part of the academy of legacy. But, I'm not here to give you that annoying corporate speech of how great our school is. I'll make it simple for you all, you're all here to survive. The moment you step forward, you sacrificed your past life for the sake of your ambition.”
The man's speech was cold and distant, it was as if he truly didn't care what would happen behind these gates.
“If you believe you're brave enough to enter. If you believe you have what it takes to be the greatest. Then step forward. The moment you do, legacy, name, heritage. All of that won't matter anymore. Only your skills will decide if you continue.”
Little by little, a motion began. One student stepped forward, then it was two, three, twenty, fifty, before all 300 did. Including Kiba.
The guard chuckled and clapped his hands twice.
And then, the gates opened. Each student's badge shone brightly, the guard took out a book and began writing. Whenever his quill ran out of Ink, he'd use one of the vials to replenish it.
“The end.” He said softly, as his words materialised. Reality broke, the gates disappeared and as if taken away from the normal plane of existence. The students were brought to a new world.
“W-what the?” Kiba said shocked, it was only natural, suddenly being transported into another realm.
There was an island in the middle, surrounded by many floating little isles. The island itself resembles a jagged, rune scarred landmass of dark and silver veined rock, levitating above stormclouds, there was no visible anchor. Arcane chains made of lights could be seen wrapping around the edges of the island.
The terrain was a blend of sharp cliffs, floating terraces and ink-black rivers that wind through the academy grounds.
Some trees grew like calligraphy strokes, branches twisting in elegant yet unnatural curved
But one of the weirdest things was definitely the sky.
The skies above are a few shades dimmer than in the real world, painted in a permanent dawn in the morning and dusk at night, it casts a golden blue hue across the entire academy.
And in the very center there it was. Solestar Academy, it was a breed of gothic and military. Think black stone towers with silver buttresses and domes topped with quill like spires.
It had four main towers, scrollwork and etched glyphs cover the walls like vines, glowing faintly.
The guard looked at the students, a smirk on his eyes:
“Welcome to Solestar. You will be living here for your first year. The principal will tell you more. Now go, and burn as bright as a star during [SuperNova].”
With that, another door appeared and the guard disappeared. Kiba looked around, his fellow students also shocked. All they could do was witness the island.
Stairs slowly appear in front of them allowing them to walk towards it. Kiba took a deep breath, calming his panicking nerves. Focusing his mind onto one mission. Yes, that was correct. He only had one goal.
Perhaps this new world will grant him more insight in his question, perhaps this new world will finally help him figure it out.
“No matter where I am, I'll find the answer to my question. I must. I will! [Solestar Academy], whatever the me from this world aimed to gain in that academy. I'll use it for my own gain.”
And so, he took his first step onto the staircase. And his first step to figure out that question that's been haunting him all this time.
