Chapter 2:
My Ideal Grimoire
As Kiba entered the Academy, his eyes still couldn't believe the exterior of the Academy. But, what had truly shocked him was the amazing interior. It felt natural and selectively beautiful. As if, Military meets Magecraft. The interior is dark and imposing.
It feels alive while it truly never is. Black stone, silver accents and glowing blue script dominate the aesthetic. Everything is designed to be the most imposing as possible, as if the entire Academy was looking down at it's very own students.
Kiba walked through the Entrance Hall, even this place was utterly special. First thing to notice was the Grand Alleyway. High vaulted ceilings with runes written . Floating chandeliers shaped like open books cast soft blue lights on the Alleyway.
"This place is incredible...It's like I'm in a new world. Who am I kidding...I am in a new wo-"
Exactly as Kiba kept talking to himself, he bumped into another student, Slightly staggering backwards, rubbing his nose. Kiba stood up and prepared to apologize to the other student. After all, it was his fault for not properly looking forward. Was it not?
"Oh, sorry dude. I didn't see you..." "Do you have any idea who I am?! Sorry, I always wanted to say that! Right I interrupted you, didn't I? Sorry."
The boy said with a pleasant smile, despite his attempt at sounding arrogant, he had a soft and calming voice, similar to being relaxing in a bubble bath after a long day of work or perhaps school. Blonde long hair flowed down to his hips, upon closer inspection. The boy seemed to have a hair tie in his hands.
"Right, well. Again, sorry I didn't see you. My name is Matsukaze, Matsukaze Kiba. And you are?" Kiba bowed politely, his student uniform slightly getting disheveled by the sudden bow. The blonde looked slightly confused at Kiba's random politeness.
"You don't have to bow you know, we're both first years. Look, see my pin right there." The boy showed his pin, it was an engraving all first years had on their uniform. The roman numeral for 1. Before Kiba could inspect his own uniform, the blonde spoke up.
"You wanted my name right Kiba-kun. Behold and be afraid, for my name is one that will surpass the heaven's, I am Antonio Apognosis Kyrie. But, ya can just call me Antonio." With a prideful smile on his face, did Antonio introduce himself.
— What the...is he one of those guys? What were they called again, I remember hearing about them on TV's...right. Showboaters! Kiba though to himself. This guy was clearly problem. But, he also seemed kind of nice.
"Well, nice to meet you Antonio, you can just call me Kiba. Honorifics are annoying, do you happen to know where we have to go?"
"What you don't? know? Jeez, you really aren't going to go far that way. Well, since we are first years we have Script Fundamentals, you know that magic pen you've got. Yeah, it's time to summon and learn how to use it. I'll tell ya the rest just follow me!"
Kiba could only look at Antonio with a surprised expression, magic pen? Did he mean the amazing writing the guard did to open the door's of the academy, and how come Antonio already knew what class they had? Well, it didn't matter. It's helpful to him.
Antonio led Kiba across the powerful hallway, many Ink Wells were located throughout the building, these wells provide endless magical ink of varying types for different writing effects. Allowed to be used by all students and staff in case their vials or pens ran out of ink.
After a long walk, and then climbing the god awfully huge stairs—Kiba and Antonio finally made it to the very top of the classroom, yep. It was the usual curse of First Years having their classes at the very top. Quite heartless of the staff isn't it?
"Hahh...huff—Jesus...give me a second Antonio..." Kiba wasn't bad in sports or in terms of endurance, but anyone who's climbing over 500 stairs would feel that way, although. He may have miscounted how many stairs there actually are due to tiredness, but nobody could miscount that badly...right?
Antonio on the other hand wasn't doing fine himself?! How terrible were those stairs, he kept muttering to himself, something about spiral, spiral and more spirals. The enemy of students weren't home work, it was the stairs.
But, finally they arrived in front of the Script Fundamentals Classroom, upon opening the door. The two were greeted by a surprising sight.
"Wo...ah" Their voices ringing in unison, as they both scanned their surroundings. The moment one would step inside, you could already smell it, the air is thick with the faint smell of ink, parchment, and candle wax.
Aside from the oh so comforting smell was the overall vibe the room gave, perfect for what seems to be an imperialistic Academy, Military and yet also Arcane, like a mix of magecraft and weaponry.
The room was shaped like a octagonal hall, symbolizing the eight directions of the written word. The desk were made out of black oak arranged in disciplined rows, each equipped with a quill rest made of silver, An inset inkwell and a groove for sliding in parchment pages.
In the middle of the room was the Teacher's Platform, it was a raised dais at the front with a wide lectern shaped like an open book. Behind it, an enormous floating chalkboard writes out lessons automatically in glowing script as the teacher speaks. Pretty convenient isn't it?
But, it wasn't the only detail about the room, on the left wall, there was a mural of “The First Scribe.” a legendary figure who supposedly wrote the first spell into existence. His words still glow faintly when the room is silent.
And on the right wall there was a massive shelf stacked with “training parchments” durable sheets that can withstand spell misfires. Some are already scarred with burn marks, frost traces, or clawed ink splatters.
A bit further towards the rear wall, lies a silver framed mirror with runes written on it, it reflects not appearances, but the quality of the words written. Sloppy, weak writing appears faded, strong, precise words glow bright.
As Kiba and Antonio picked their spots next to each other on a table, students slowly began entering the classroom, each with their own motivation, ideals and dreams. Kiba took a deep breath and copied everything Antonio was doing, getting his Unique Book out, his pen out of the student pocket, two ink vials and a normal pencil to write.
As every student had gotten themselves ready, from the roof there she came down.
Long, silky white hair, kept neatly braided down her back with a thin silver ribbon. A few strands always escape to bully her face, softening her look while keeping her somewhat elegant.
Her eyes were gentle ash-gray with flecks of silver that seem to catch every written word her students would craft. They had a calm quality to them that simply seemed...comforting.
Combined to those soft eyes was a Face that is both smooth and kind, with faint laugh lines at the corners of her eyes. Her lips curve naturally into a soft smile that rapidly eased the tension of the room.
And with a slender and graceful build that simply removed any feeling dread, she landed gracefully, her uniform slightly different than others.
She wore a modified Solestar uniform, specially made for instructors. A long black military-style coat with silver trim and a high collar, it flew like a robe whenever she walked or even simply floated. Her quill was tucked neatly into a silver clasp at her breast pocket, always visible and easy to reach.
Instead of trousers or skirt, she wears a long black dress layered under the coat, not practical but it simply fit her aesthetic. At her waist hung a slim belt pouch of ink vials, each glowing faintly with power. They seemed stronger than the one's student had on them.
And to finish her looks, a thin silver chain necklace carries a small old-fashioned locket, rumors has it, her very first spell is hidden inside of it. But, who would dare try to find out?
Before anyone could speak up, she began introducing herself and the whiteboard behind her began shining brightly her words immediately being written onto it.
"Hello Students! I am Professor Elira Vael, and it is with a lot of joy that I welcome you to your first class in Solestar Academy, I will teach you everything you need to know about Script Fundamentals...now then."
She took a deep breath, before a bright smile appeared on her face.
"Class is in session!"
