Chapter 3:

Rise of The King: The grudge Part 1

Rise of The King

Kiran's group was under constant supervision due to their "suspicious behavior". Months would pass and there were no significant events that happened to them. But soon enough, things turned south. The current top number one group is far from excellent, they're only good for listening to orders and keeping quiet, like good soldiers. With their egos raised, they gloated in front of everybody, especially Kiran's group since everybody knew how motivated they were to reach the top. Unable to do anything due to Commander's Ferro's threat, they have to endure the humiliation, but how long will that last until the breaking post reaches?

Winter is approaching, the snowstorms and blizzards in Heartonia was unbearable. The kingdom was surrounded by high mountains and rough terrain, limiting the crops, heavily relying on hunting. Once winter arrives, the only beasts that arrive are the Northern Ice Dragons, spreading their icy wrath to anything living. This was the time for soldiers to prove their worth, seeing who survives and hunts the most dragons.

Atreus was cleaning the barracks, mopping away dust and food crumps that Dolion leaves behind. While cleaning, he overhears something outside.
"Winter is coming. Do you think we can hold as the top group?"
"Captain Ferro has us covered, he already has the hunting grounds prepared for us. He clearly sees our potential and how we're better than the rest."
"Guess you're right... Now come on, I heard they're serving roasted stone boar."

Atreus looked out of the window and found Irin and Eyle, from the top group talking outside of the cafeteria. He shook his head as to how he could hear them.
"You heard that, right?" Dolion's materialized behind Atreus with a smirk. "Looks like being a sorcerer is it's perks, eh?" He chuckled as he patted Atreus on the shoulder.
"To have such powers fall onto a fool like you... it scares me." His tone was quiet. Hearing this, Dolion's grin grew wider. "You still call me a fool? For what reason?"
"The fact that you haven't mastered it yet." A silence fell upon the both of them, Dolion was thinking about his words. "Well, the more fear that I have, the stronger I am, the more I don't understand the more I'm scared about myself." His voice was unusually low and quiet.
"Living your whole life in fear, that sounds like a nightmare."
"And giving your life for a family that hates you, that's just miserable." He taunted, a small grin showing once again.
"Oy, let's grab something to eat. While those two are out chopping wood, we should be able to eat normally. Even I'm getting sick of their constant talk about honor and glory."
Dolion chuckled and climbed out of the window. "Same here pal. They haven't experienced real life yet."
They made their way to the cafeteria. It was solid stone, but a fireplace kept the entire room warm. As they moved passed the tables, they passed Irin and Eyle, shooting them a glare before they stood in front the the meal servant.
"We'd like two serving of roasted stone boar." Atreus said as he crossed his arms, observing the servant.
"Sorry folks, roasted boar is only for the top group. We've got bloatshroom stew for the rest of ya." He looked at them with his usual annoyed expression.
"Fine then, two servings." Atreus responded with the same annoyed tone. Getting their food, they sat down on a table and started eating.
"Ugh, a little bit of seasoning couldn't hurt." Atreus scoffed.
"Yeah, well at least we have this cafeteria thingy. Those humans are really smart when it comes to basic living." Dolion chuckled.
"It's the only thing they're good for. Their men are barely worthy of our time. Luckily for them, we're stuck with this fool of a king."
"Come on, don't say that. Humans scream the best." Dolion's voice got darker with glee.
"More than elves? I highly doubt that."
"Oh trust me. Elves just gasp, but they're filled with fear!"

As their conversation continued, they could feel the glares of Irin and Eyle piercing them. With a smirk Dolion's shadow slipped under the tables, managing to steal a few pieces of roasted stone boar. "Here ya go. Still warm." He chuckled as he handed a few pieces to Atreus.
"Mhh, perfectly seasoned and roasted." Atreus complimented with a smirk.

"Hey! What did those bastards do!" Irin yelled out as he marched towards Dolion and Atreus. "You stole some of our food!"
"Nope- I mean no, don't know what you're talking about." Dolion smirked defiantly at Irin.
"And why would you assume that? You have no proof. Maybe your gluttonous mouths devoured more than you thought?" Atreus replied smugly, getting a chuckle out of Dolion. Eyle also approached and slammed his hands on the table.
"Listen to me you filth! I know damn well you stole from us. There's nobody here who's more jealous than your group of misfits!"
Yawning at the accusations, Dolion just waved his hand. "Yeah, yeah. Like how the humans would say, quit with the yapping, meaning shut the hell up."
"You call us filth, yet I am nobility and he's traveled the world and is a expert at the linguistic arts of other tongues. And what are you two good at? Just standing and following orders like dogs, hoping to get the praise of their master." At Atreus's taunt, Irin pulled out a dagger and pointed it at Atreus. "How about we settle this right now?!"
"Oy! Settle your business outside! I don't want to clean up your damn mess!" The servant yelled out. Without saying a word, they moved outside and in the training grounds.

"Training is prohibited while off hours. You two sure that you want this?" Atreus taunted.
"You two are on thin ice with the commanders, you'll get in bigger trouble than us." Eyle scoffed as he pulled out his shortsword. Dolion pulled out his shadow sickles for himself and even created Atreus's zweihander and handed it to him.
"Not bad, a bit too light for me. Ironic." Atreus's chuckled at his own joke.
"Come on! Enough joking and fight!" Irin yelled out.

Irin and Eyle glared at Dolion and Atreus with hatred, meanwhile the other two were just calm and ready to fight. Getting in their fighting stance, they waited for somebody to make the first move.
