The Unyielding Skies

In the year 1996, a newly formed indie group of developers created a visual novel based around a fantasy type story. Included in it were elements of action, adventure, drama, mystery, slice of life, and young romance.

The game was called “The Unyielding Skies” which told the tale of a seventeen year old boy—a commoner with strange powers by the name of Richard Adronight.

Richard was born in a poor and broken area of the Grand City of Ouhetia, raised by only his mother. At the age of twelve he would tragically lose his mother in a violent scuffle against robbers but afterwards would dedicate his time into becoming a bounty hunter and then raising his physical and magical level. 

After getting enough money, he would buy himself into the Academy of Magic—the pride and joy of all of the realm and the place where only legends could be created—Minia.

Richard’s plan was to do throughout all four years and become a licensed mage just as he had promised his deceased mother. But the threads of destiny would interfere with Richard’s school life…

An ancient evil that had been asleep generations would reawaken in an attempt to take over the world and consume all magic for itself. 

The Demon Queen—Uggalin. 

The most vile and powerful being on the planet would hide in the shadows and acquire the ancient she once lost. Richard, who is put at the center of this evil would be forced to fight it and save the world.

But Adronight would not be alone as he would be cared for by friends and comrades who gained throughout his time in Minia. 

That is the story of “The Unyielding Skies”…

But as for the character of Raine Redwood—the person who Mari has become—she would be given a horrible fate.

Raine Redwood is one of the professors of Minia who has long since been a member of the staff. She is a minor antagonist who does nothing more to ruin and sabotage Richard’s stay in the academy simply due to him being a commoner. 

The woman is selfish, manipulative, and cowardly. She would turn a blind eye to the mistreatment of the commoners in the school and aid in scandalous campaigns to further her only goals. 

In the story of the game, Raine tried to get Richard expelled by trying to sabotage him with a curse during his Finals. Raine’s curse would ultimately fail due to Richard’s strength and the evil professor would have been caught. Afterwards, Headmaster Leon would fire her.

With no place further to go, Raine became homeless and mental broken. But this also made her an easy target to be manipulated as she was then discovered by Uggalin herself who offered her demonic power. 

Desperate for revenge, Raine Redwood forsakes her humanity and becomes a succubus. She would become the first demon Richard Adronight and his friends would fight during the second half of the game.

In the end, the former professor would lose pathetically. Struck down by Richard and then betrayed by Uggalin who used a powerful spell to melt her into goo…leaving nothing of the woman to even bury…

“Why…”

Ashikage Mari screamed within the head of Professor Raine who was still being pushed by Nora.
