Chapter 3:

The Main Characters

Professor Raine is Acting Weird!!

The confused Raine eventually found herself outside Minia Academy, which looked like a grand castle. Then she walked onto the massive wooden stage, which the intimidating-looking professors already crowded. Standing at the center was a herculean man with massive muscles that seemed ready to bulge out of his red suit. His white hair was wild and everywhere on his head and face—making him resemble the appearance of a lion.

Raine–or at least Ashikage Mari—knew this character well. An important character who served as a mentor and supporter for Richard’s character.

The Headmaster of Minia–Leon Blaze.

“He looks even bigger in person…”

Raine said to herself as she instinctively gulped.

“Professor Raine!”

Nora nervously hissed behind Raine and shoved her onto the stage.

“Please take your spot! The ceremony is about to begin!”

“W-wait—GAH!”

Raine stumbled onto the wooden stage, slightly pushing against a male professor who was taken aback by the sudden contact. However, he quickly adjusted himself and stood at attention like a soldier in the ceremony. All the professors of Minia were…except for Raine, who looked completely disheveled and delirious.

But no one was focused on her; instead, the eyes of the audience were fully on Leon Blaze, who let off a powerful aura of authority.

“Hello Students!!”

The old man’s voice reverberated throughout the entire area, even shaking some of the leaves off the trees nearby.

“Well…I guess he didn’t need a microphone…”

Raine said inside her head as her ears began to ring.

“This academy is your stepping stone! The beginning of your legacy! Here you can become what you have always dreamed of! With the power of magic in your hands—you can do anything!”

Leon then formed a massive fireball in his right hand as he continued.

“Magic is the dimension-bending power only wielded by those with intense determination! You must have the power to strive for your goals and acquire what you need to move forward! But know that we, the People of Minia, are examples of those of honor! While it is good to have ambition, never, and I mean NEVER, let it destroy your morals!”

The fireball then turned from orange to black and took the shape of a snake. The black snake flew around the air and rained down white ambers onto the stage. Some students looked on in horror, while some were honestly quite amazed at what they saw.

The professors on the stage remained unnerved while Raine was beginning to sweat ridiculously as if she were in a sauna.

I-IT IS OKAY FOR THAT THING TO BE FLYING AROUND THE STAGE!? WON’T IT START A FIRE!?

“There have been mages in history who have used the spells of their ancestors for evil and caused nothing but misery for all. You, as the next generation, must learn from history. Never cross the path of darkness, or it shall only lead to despair. Be noble in heart or face the wrath of nature as all evil is rewarded with evil…”

The black snake curled up into a ball and exploded in a blinding light. Everyone covered their eyes for a few seconds and then opened them again to see a small ball of white flame which softly landed into the hand of Leon like a feather. The headmaster then blew out the flame like a simple candle and clapped.

“Become better! Become a generation of heroes! A generation of those who can teach kindness! Use your magic to make the world a place where people can truly—and I mean TRULY be happy! That is the way of Minia!”

The crowd cheered and clapped after Leon Blaze finished her entrance speech. Raine just looked at the headmaster in awe at his power and demonstration.

“That was magic…it looked even more strange in real life…the 2D graphics in the original game don’t even compare…”

“Hm? Did you say something, Professor Raine?”

The professor next to Raine turned to her and spoke aloud. Raine blushed and looked away quickly.

“N-Nothing! You're just hearing things!”

Raine turned her gaze to the audience and saw the thousands of new first years for Minia.

This is the beginning of the game if I recall…Richard should be right….THERE!

Just as Raine predicted, the main character was standing somewhere in the center of the audience. He was a small-statured boy with what looked like a small build. His hair was short, messy, and pearly white, while he wore dusty clothes. He looked soft and fragile, but Raine knew that underneath that appearance was a talented fighter and wielder of great power.

He’s personality is also strangely passive…despite formerly being a bounty hunter. You would think he would rougher…

Raine then turned her eyes to the left to see a girl about the same age as Richard. She was a pretty girl with blue eyes, big breasts, short hazel colored hair, and an appearance that just screamed “adorable”.

One of the main heroines…Samantha Greenhill. A disgraced noble whom her family abandoned. She joins Richard as a member of his party and is also his love interest…

Raine chuckled a little.

A-actually…doesn’t Richard have multiple love interests in this game? Yes, there, Samantha of course…the two second years, Gloria and Martha…and that village girl who is outside the academy named Lotte…but he doesn’t really end up with any of them, does he? After all, this game’s focus isn’t romance, and…he is pretty dense. He never actually catches on that the girls have feelings for him and never really reciprocates those feelings…

Raine sighed and shook her head.

That was the one thing I found annoying about his character…but hey–his love life is none of your business. What should be my business is how I SURVIVE MY BAD END!!

Raine then quickly turned around, her eyes leaving the stage and going towards the antsy Nora, who was just picking flowers and tiptoeing around.

And it’s because of that woman! Nora Christina! Or should I say…The Demon Queen—Uggalin!
