Chapter 1:
My New Maid Doll
It was yet another cold and sleepless night for Klet, the visions and nightmares didn't seem to rest. Looking down at his pale and veiny arm, he could see the new scratch marks that appeared tonight. With a sigh, he got out of bed and decided to take a walk through the cold and empty countryside. Putting on his jacket, he made his way outside, his breath visible in the cool night.
The newly made road was devoid of any people and cars, the only noise was the light breeze and the synchronized song of insects that were still there. In the distance, he could see the old and decrepit mansion looming over the small city. It was a relic of the past, no one dared to enter or destroy it due to rumors and folktales about vengeful spirits still residing inside. Just thinking about the story made the hairs on Klet's back stand up. Rubbing his half closed eyes, he heard some rustling in the forest next to him. Turning on his phone's flashlight, he saw strange people injecting themselves with needles, empty bottles of booze littered the ground. Their gaze turned to Klet and their expressions lit up with uncanny smiles.
"T-There he is! He's the one!" One of the druggies pointed and laughed at Klet, his six teeth rotten to their core, seemed to drip with mucus. The other druggy laughed maniacally and violently shook his head as he stepped forward.
"Yeah! Yeah! It's him! You're ours boy!" Without warning, they ran at Klet at full speed.
Adrenaline kicked in it as Klet screamed and ran as fast as he could. He was never the most active guy, but his entire body felt light as he ran forward, anywhere to just hide from the druggies. Looking forward, he decided to take his chances with potential spirits in the decrepit mansion rather than the druggies.
Pushing the doors open and slamming them shut, blocking it with debris, his eyes canned the massive entrance hall of the mansion. Stairs leading up were long gone, the hall to the left was blocked by debris, meanwhile the right hall was mostly clear, but the ceiling appeared as it was going to cave in from the slightest disturbance. There was only one door left and it led down to the the basement. Banging could be heard behind him as the druggies laughed and pounded on the door. Deciding to swallow his fears, he ran to the basement, looking somewhere to hide. Finding a large drawer, he quickly opened it and found a life-sized doll that was wearing a maid dress. Looking up at the doll, he felt weird around it, a chill ran down his spine as his legs finally gave up from fatigue.
The door burst open, its echo rattling through the mansion’s rotting bones.. Quickly making their way downstairs, they maliciously gazed at Klet.
"Oh look at you boy! All primed and ready!" The first druggy taunted. Klet's eyes were wide with fear and his voice was shaky and quiet from fear.
"W-What do you want from me? I don't even know you..." Tears formed in his eyes.
"We know you well Klet... you messed with us and our boss. We'll make sure you fucking pay!" The second druggy yelled and spat at Klet. As they took a step closer, their eyes started bleeding as they coughed up even more blood. The air reeked of blood and decay.
Closing his eyes, Klet let God decide his fate, muttering a half remembered prayer
"Our Father in heaven, deliver us from evil!" His voice was barely audible from fear as his throat constricted. The druggies screamed in horror as the sound of bones snapping and hollow gasping could be heard. Opening his eyes, he saw the doll came to life, lifting one of the druggies in the air and strangling him, he fought and tried to free himself, but her grasp was hard as iron as she slowly choked his life away. Looking down at the floor, he saw the other one, his neck broken. As the druggies breath gave away, the doll dropped him down onto the ground. Turning around, she glared down at Klet with a wide and creepy smile, just observing him. Klet's body refused to move or even make a sound. He's dealt with the paranormal, but this was on a whole different level. Breaking the silence, the doll spoke.
"Well dear me! It appears that young master here is in trouble with the demonic. But at least I'm not alone in this battle." Her tone was cheerful and polite, her way of talking was perfect. Her outfit looked like it came out of the Victorian era, highly detailed and beautiful. Her long black hair matched her black dress. A bit of courage return to Klet as he spoke quietly.
"W-Who are you... What are you?" He had many questions, yet those were the only ones he could voice. The doll just chuckled and bowed in front of him.
"Call me Mrs. Briar. I'm your new maid!" She spoke with excitement. "It appears that the Wright blood still continues and flows through you." A puzzled expression covered Klet's face. This was the first time he ever heard of the Wright family.
"The Wright blood? What are you even talking about?" Klet asked nervously. Mrs. Briar scratched her head and just shook her head.
"Do you not know your own lineage?" She asked in a puzzled tone. "I've been out for a long time! I'm not sure what year it is. Has that much time passed for you to forget your own blood?"
"It's... 2025... It's the 1st of October. I don't recall anybody from my family with the Wright name. Even my grandparents were Smith." Klet replied. The expression on Mrs. Briar's face slowly turned to shock.
"Oh... that long? I don't know what to say..." She sat down on a broken and decrepit box. The walls seemed to close in. The stench of mold and decay getting stronger, causing Klet to gag. Noticing her masters discomfort, she took his hand and quickly led him upstairs.
"Come with me master! I'll keep you safe from trouble and filth! That's what a good maid dose!" She smiled at Klet as the exited the ruined mansion and into the fresh and cold night. Looking up , Klet got a good look at Briar's "skin". It looked real but to the touch, it was soft like wool and fabric. Despite her uncanny appearance, he felt safe around her. He felt safe for the first time of his life.
"Now then, my master. Where shall we reside? I suppose you have your own house? Or a luxurious mansion?" Her voice was filled with joy and excitement. Klet sighed as he began leading Briar to his small wooden and stone house. It all happened so fast, yet he felt hope that things would be changing for the better. It was a slimmer of hope, a small light peeking through the cracks of a dungeon. It was enough to give hope.
