Chapter 2:
My New Maid Doll
The cool breeze that gently moved through the air stopped as Klet and Briar got back home. Before Klet could enter, the adrenaline finally wore off. He puked as he realized what happened. A haunted doll murdered two druggies and now serves him as he has aristocrat blood flowing through his veins.
"Master, are you okay?" Briar kneeled beside him, rubbing his back.
Years with dealing with supernatural shenanigans and now he had to deal with a haunted doll. Coughing a bit, he stood up and cleared his throat.
"T-Tell me everything... Tell me everything that you know!" His tone was desperate and filled with fear. Standing up, Briar tapped her chin gently. "(C-Can I even trust her? She murdered two druggies like it was nothing! She's fucking crazy! A-At least she's not trying to hurt me... Yet.)"
"Let's see... I served the Wright family ever since I was 14, all the way until... I believe 34..." She sighed as she rubbed her temples gently. "Then... I don't remember. Pardon my forgetfulness, but I can't seem to remember."
Sinking his face into his palms, Klet groaned loudly.
"You can't be serious? How can you forget something so important?!"
"Well pardon me, but when you're asleep for over 150 years!" Briar took a step towards Klet, towering over him, her tone turning serious. "I may be your maid, but I deserve some respect! Do I make myself clear!?" Crossing her arms, she glared at Klet. Taking a step back, he lowered his gaze to the floor. His words were quiet and apologetic.
"Y-Yes ma'am..."
"Good. Now let's head inside. I can't have you getting sick now." Taking Klet's hand, Briar led him inside. Opening the door, a cold and uninteresting living room welcomed her. A couch, a few chairs and lights. The entire room felt so cold and devoid of any positivity. Yet she felt something in the house, something dark and sinister lurking.
"I know, it's nothing impressive. It's just enough to get by." Klet spoke quietly as he went to his bedroom. Briar quickly followed him.
"Master, wait!" She pulled him back and entered the room first. Running to the other end of the room, her hands let out a soft glow and she grabbed something invisible.
"H-Hey! W-What are you doing?" Klet's tone trembled as a pale figure appeared in Briar's grip. Pure white eyes filled with hatred glared at Klet, a pale face streamed with black marks on its face screamed in pain as it's malnourished body struggled.
"Let me go! I'll rip you both to shreds!" The being yelled out and growled. Briar could only laugh in amusement.
"Aren't you adorable? You actually think you can harm me? Maybe you can scare and threaten my master, but I won't let you or any of your demonic friends get near my master. Now tell your boss that I said hello." A wide grin appeared on Briar's face as she crushed the demon in her hand, it's body disappeared into the air. The air in the house felt safer, a bit warmer despite the cold outside. Unable to believe it, Klet slowly walked up to Briar, barely raising his voice.
"What was that?"
"Oh that? They're demons! I can see all sorts of ghosts and demons since I'm on the edge of life and death." She said with a smile as she bowed. "Need me to tuck you in? I can also sing and read bedtime stories!" Her giggling was both sweet and unnerving.
"N-No thanks! I'm fine. You can sleep on the couch. I don't have anything else." Laying down in his bed, it only took closing his eyes to fall into a deep sleep.
"Sleep well, master." Briar whispered as she quietly closed the door behind her. Stretching a bit, she made herself at home and laid on the couch. At least it wasn't hard wood covered with mold and spiders.
Dreams faded and went, but Briar wasn't dreaming. Images of her laying on the floor, covered in blood as people who blank faces drew a circle on the ground and lighting up candles. Before she could react, a ray of light hit her eyes. Slowly stirring awake, it was the first time in a century that she saw the sun. She couldn't feel it's touch, but it filled her with joy. Looking out of the window, the morning sun was slowly peeking it's head from the mountains. A bright and warm glow settled on her "skin", she felt warmth for once. Shaking her head lightly, she moved to the small kitchen. There she found new machines and devices. Opening the fridge, she started making breakfast for her new master.
Waking up feeling well rested in years, Klet walked out of his room, the smell of bacon and eggs filled his house.
"Good morning master! Breakfast is prepared! I do hope you enjoy." She spoke happily, gesturing to the food on the table.
"T-Thank you, Mrs. Briar." His tone was calm and joy crept up on him. Maybe it was the good rest or the delicious odor of food, but Klet could only feel joy. As he ate, he stared a bit at Briar, trying to figure out what to do with her. How could he explain this to anybody? During the day, her skin was pale and didn't look fully human. But the fear he had towards her was slowly fading. It was weird, but he already felt so close to her, like he knew her for a long time.
Briar's mind kept coming back to the memory that she saw, she couldn't shake it.
"Master, I have something to tell you." Her tone was serious as she sat across from him. "I had a dream... No, a memory. I remembered a fraction of what happened in the past."
Putting down his fork, Klet looked at her with worry.
"Really? If you don't mind, could you explain it?"
"I remembered being on a floor as a demonic ritual took place. I can't remember their faces... but the Wright family... they bound me to this world..." Putting her hands on her head, she strained from pain. "I can't remember... I don't want to remember!" Unable to see her like this, Klet put his hand on her shoulder.
"It's okay... Just calm down. If you'd like, we can go to a library or search up the family." His tone was compassionate and understanding. A small smile appeared on her face.
"It seems like I worked my magic last night... That demon really was eating away at you." Her words sent a chill down Klet's spine.
"W-Was all of that the work of a demon?"
"No, there's multiple of them, they're just scared and confused that I'm here and can see them. They left you alone for now. But do be careful, they'll be furious when they come back."
"Okay... G-Good to know..." He nodded nervously.
"Well, looking at the lack of crosses and Bible here, you're in real trouble. You're practically defenseless! We need to get you some Holy objects for protection. Come master! Finish your meal and we're going shopping!" Briar declared with a determined smile. She didn't want to think about her memory and the danger that lies ahead. The truth scared and deep down knew she wasn't ready to face it.
Klet was never a religious man, he knew half a prayer, but looking at how his life is going, he's slowly becoming less of a sceptic. No forms of science could explain this. He didn't know where his life was going now, but its a new reality that he has to accept.
