Chapter 3:

Overwrite

Flash Fiction Series

Sitting in front of me, dressed like that, you look perfect.

"You're probably confused about this, sweetheart, let me explain. Remember last month when I told you maybe we should go out of our comfort zone and try doing new things, going new places?"

You nod.

"Well, those were actually the same stuff I did with my ex before I met you. I started feeling like I was thinking about my ex too much, and I felt bad. Like I was cheating on you, you know? So I thought maybe if we repeated them, I could overwrite the old memories. That way all of them would remind me of you, instead!"

Your eyes open wide as you understand. Yes, this is why I took you to the opera when I didn't have much money. This was also why we went camping, even though I hate the outdoors.

"I didn't want to tell you back then because that would have ruined it, but I know you love me as much as I do, so I'm sure you understand. Anyway, don't worry, it will end today, with this," I say with a smile, as I put a box in front of you, open it and show you its contents.

Tears flow uncontrollably from your beautiful eyes.

I know they're happy tears, of course.

"Now you'll be the only thing in my mind, sweetheart," I say, as I pull the trigger.
