Chapter 3:
CyberRock!!!
It feels like my brain is overloading; the beeping noise, the beeping voice, the potential actual beeping that may be coming from my chest - I can hardly tell what's an illusion and what's real. It feels like I'm going to vomit, like sharp spikes are poking all over my body. I'm only brought back to reality by reminding myself of what I just said. "I don't remember," I say again in my head. I know it's idiotic to get so worked up over one response, the truth, but I forgot my birthday.
I avert my eyes away from the Captain, looking down towards my own, hoping that this is all just one bad dream. This is when I realize that I'm still wearing the Adam-Suit, I search for the button that I should've felt dragging on the floor, but it's nowhere to be seen.
"Truth...odd," the captain said. I continued to look down; I'd like to think about why I can't remember the day I was born, nor what's going on with this suit, but I don't have time to. "Let's skip to the important ones, do we have to do all the basics every single time!?" said Rogers. The captain responds with "Considering the circumstances this time, that might be the best course of action, but I had to ask at least that first one to make sure we're dealing with a real person. She continues to say, "Next question, are you with The Machinst or are you an ally of humanity?"
Somehow, this question is much easier than the birthday question. "I don't know what The Machinist is, so I guess I'm an ally of humanity I say with a nervous tone, finally looking up to face the captain again. "We're short on time here, minutes at most," yelled Rogers.
The captain then focuses on me. "I scanned you while you were asleep; you don't have even a tiny bit of mana, so you're only choice is to use these." She pulls out what appears to be a small but long firearm, it's colored yellow on the bottom half and silver on the top. "It sends out electric charges, don't aim for the chest or head, otherwise they'll die, the only reason this organization still exists is because we don't kill the mages," the captain tells me.
She acts like I'd be capable of even killing one of them, they made fire appear out of nowhere, and did she just call them mages!? She wants me to face off against real-life mages with real magic.
"Don't mistake me, I don't exactly trust you, but I don't have much of a choice right now.
The next thing I hear is a loud BANG coming from the door I entered from. The door was blown wide open by the same fire I had seen while in the sky, where the door was last at is now 3 figures masked by the smoke that they most likely caused themselves I don't scream, as much as I want to, this is probably the least strange thing to happen to me in the last few...hours? Days? Not too sure how long I was asleep.
The figures finally emerged after what felt like an eternity. Standing between me and the mages was Rogers. All 3 of the figures wore blue robes; the ones on the left and the right were bald, had no eyebrows, and paced a few steps behind the man in the center. While he's also wearing a blue robe, his head has a very healthy set of brown hair, so much so that I can't even see his face; it's like his entire head is just hair.
Finally, the one in the middle speaks, "CyberRock, for the crimes of using cybernetics and injuring many, many of our men, you are under arrest. Come quietly, and this time you might not lose anyone. Nobody says a word; the only sound is emitted from the door that was set ablaze by the mages. The mages stare us down, then the two bald mages lift up thin sticks. Considering my circumstances, it wouldn't be a reach to say those were wands.
Then, without a word said the same fire that I saw while in the air formed from the wands, a ball of fire, then the mage in the middle stated "Fire." Then the two balls of fire charge towards this side of the room, faster than I can even react, and I can only do a quick jump in fear before I realize what is happening.
Just as the fireball would've hit me, Rogers, the literal last person I expected to be useful in any capacity, appeared right in front of me. One second, I was faced with sudden death, and the next, I heard a loud clanking sound. A giant wall of metal, almost triple the size of Rogers and me, the wall stood and protected both of us.
Rogers looks behind himself and grins, "Now go attack ya freak!" Rogers says before picking me up and chucking me above the giant wall.
"What the hell is wrong with you!?" I say out loud, ok, no time, I have to use my gun taser thing quickly or protect myself with this shield, otherwise I'm dead. Just as I begin to raise the shield, I realize...it's gone, same with the taser, it's gone. I swore I was holding onto both of them the entire time, yet they aren't in my hands.
In front of me are 2 mages, I don't know where the other one went, but it's the two bald ones and they're holding their wands right in front of my face. Just like mere moments ago, another fireball appears from the wands. The only thing I can do is defensively lift my arms, my palms facing towards the mages, while my backhand faces towards me. The fire once again races towards me. I close my eyes, accepting my fate.
But much like the last time I closed my eyes to accept my fate, I'm safe, I don't know why, Rogers hasn't moved an inch from where he was. However, standing in front of me isn't a person, it's a shield, the same one I held in my hand earlier, but instead of it being physical, it's like it's being projected from my hands. No, it's not like it is, it is exactly that, I can feel it like I'm holding it, yet I'm not.
Just as I want to lower my hands, the mages look as if they're about to fire again, I hear an annoying laugh from behind me, no surprise that it's Rogers. "See! What are ya afraid of!?"
I don't know what's going on, but I can feel something in my very core, whatever that means. Looking at my own hands, I realize that I'm going to have to fight myself, not like Rogers is going to help me. Will I be able to do it, though? I have to, I have to figure out where I'm at and why this is all happening, if I don't, I'm going to lose my mind.
