The wanderers of adventures

I was washing my face when I looked at myself in the mirror, a month has passed since Alexander joined our team. Right now we were in a distant town, a two-week distance from our hometown. I dried my face with a towel and picked up my stuff to meet with the other two downstairs. It was time for breakfast and they had already ordered for me.

We ate, and then we went to the place we were supposed to go in Alexander’s carriage, the quest for today was taking down a stone golem in the distance. The quest was placed by another town but they requested it from our town too since they were low on people.

“Is this going to happen to us too? What would happen when we go to more exciting places?” —Elizabeth asked.

“We cannot think of that, if we remain in the town, we are only limiting ourselves, that is why we took the quest in the first place, to have a chance and move on”

“For what? Are you thinking of doing something good? You want to discover an ancient treasure? Or you want us to be the next heroes who defeat the great evil lord?” —Alexander asked.

“Is there really a demon lord in here?” —I asked.

“No, but it would be pretty good to do it, what is your goal, I never had the chance to ask both of you”

“I just want to live the life of the adventurer, fame, money, all of that stuff is just secondary, not like we are famous and the money is okay, but… I just want to live adventures” —I said.

“I agree, even if we become recognizable by other people, we only focus on the discoveries we made and help people out” —Elizabeth said.

“Exactly like me, guess that is why we got along so well” —Alexander said.

The horses neigh and Alexander pet both of them in their backs.

“Sure, sure, you two have come along pretty well, you are part of the team after all!”

“That’s right” —I nodded.

“Sebastian and Renala are both part of the party” —Elizabeth said

The horses neigh again, this time with a happier tone and they increase their speed

“Seems they liked to hear that” —Alexander said.

When we were near the location, Alexander made sure to have his horses secure and with food and water, they were attached to a nail in the floor so they couldn’t go that far. Once he hugged his horses we took our leave and went to search for the golem.

“Searching for a golem shouldn’t be that difficult, right?” —I said.

“I have never seen one, is it like in the books?” —Elizabeth said.

“Probably, and how big a golem is? I heard that it could be as large as the church” —Alexander said.

We kept talking about what type of golem we were going to encounter and after an hour walking, we stopped in the shadows to drink some water and look around.

“This is not working, where is that thing?” —I said.

We searched every inch of the area but we couldn’t find the golem anywhere. I sat down and the other two followed me, but I felt strange when I sat down, the dirt was hard, a lot harder than normal, I stood up and with my sword I started to dig.

When I pulled my sword in the dirt, a rumbling could be felt, the entire floor was shaking, I kept my position with my sword and when we noticed we were being lifted by the floor with a sound, similar to a computer doing calculations in those old movies.

We were up the golem, it was a golem made of rocks, with a yellowish color but very bright, almost white, like sand. He only had a red circle in the middle of his face, it was of the size of the ogre that we fought in the cave with spiders, maybe even larger, we could stand in his shoulder without any problems, but getting down was not good, if any of us landing incorrectly we could get injured.

My sword stabbed the shoulder of the golem and that might awake him. I looked at the others, Elizabeth was in the same situation as me but Alexander was nowhere to be seen, when I looked down, I saw him running, the golem was going after him.

“HEY! PIECE OF ROCK!” —I yelled and jumped with my sword extending one of my hands.

I let out a shot of water that impulsed me to the eye of the golem, shattering it, but when I did that, the eye exploded, making me fall, Alexander was able to catch me as I ran and Elizabeth jumped too to be caught by Alex as the golem was falling.

When the dust from the fall of the golem scattered away, we approached the golem and started to inspect it. There wasn’t anything to be collected except the core that the golem had in its interior, we took it and then we kept looking at the golem.

“I won” —I said.

“What do you mean you won, Ryu?! I was the closest to the description” —Elizabeth said.

“I’m afraid the two of you are wrong, my description of the golem was the most precise when, to the color, to the form, for that I’m clearly the winner of this contest- HEY! WAIT FOR ME!”

The two of us were already going to the carriage as Alexander was talking, we got into the carriage and delivered the golem core to the guild and began our travel back to our town.

“Fifteen gold coins, we can eat for a whole month with this” —I said,

“Is food all you think about, Ryu?” —Elizabeth said.

“No, but we do eat and drink a ton” —I said.

“That’s true, and we cannot forget about Elizabeth’s desserts, just how many you can eat, with that figure nobody would guess that y- UGHH, ELIZABETH, I’M… DRIVING”

“We could crash right here for all I care, don’t said another word, Alexander Silver”

I started to laugh when Elizabeth looked at me and I just smile nervous as we went, we stopped by a ton of towns to rest and eat until we came back to our hometown, the sun was about to set up when we go in, we wanted just to eat and sleep but at the moment we entered, we were greeted by the receptions.

“Welcome back, I was notifying about the success of your mission, with that, your party has been granted an official rank”

“We had ranks?” —I asked.

“Yeah, I thought we already discuss this, but let me refresh your memory, every party has a rank starting from their first mission, but this is just a provisional rank until you prove that you are enough to handle missions that are quite difficult, the quest that you took was a test, and you all approve”

The receptionist handed us a piece of paper with our names on it but we only had to put a name on it.

“You would need to choose a name for your party, from now on, you can take your own missions but there will be ones that you only would be able to do, please think carefully about it and when you are done, come back to me, you already have another one where to go”

I looked at Elizabeth and Alexander with a smile and we went upstairs with some food and a bottle of wine, Alexander went to take a shower as we drank.

“I’m not used to seeing him without it” —I said.

“He is quite handsome, at first I thought it was because he was afraid of his looks”

“Come on, now”

“Jealous?”

“Don’t tease me, Liz”

“But you are funny to mess around with, you are quite the cutie though”

Elizabeth was pinching my cheeks while getting too close with me, almost hugging me. Alexander came out of the bathroom already dressed with a black shirt and white pants. He had very short black hair, and his complexion was wide, he was very strong, one could guess it by the look of his armor but it always surprised me how he really looks.

“Are you drunk, already, Elizabeth?”

“Noup”

Elizabeth laughed as she hugged me tightly.

“I guess she is just tipsy”

“I am not tipsy, I am Elizabeth!”

“Is that another term from your hometown?”

“Yeah… but maybe she is drunk… anyway, we already thought of some names during our trips, but I guess it has to be that one, right?”

“Yeah, yeah, the one that we thought together, it would even work if we have more party members!”

“She is really drunk if she is saying that so lightly, but I am with you in the name, Ryu”

I nodded and wrote down our party’s name: “The wanderers of adventures”
