Chapter 2:
Delightfully Detached Destructive Dominion
Date: N/A . Planet: N/A
Humanity Iteration: 6
Universal Edict: None
The universe shattered around the four Demon Kings like stained glass. Shards of black space swirled around them, adding flecks of black to the swirling rainbow hurricane around them. It felt as if they were underwater while falling in the air at the same time.
Tyranny looked around him, searching for the throne. His plan to use the two Demon King’s fight to his advantage had succeeded. Aeturnus was a Heavenly Demon, a Demon King, powered by the throne, no other being should be able to match them in power. Yet this newly born Demon King was able to do such. The fabric of reality now had to withstand the power of two Heavenly Demons when there should only be one. It weakened reality enough that it left Tyranny an opportunity to break through the boundaries and back into the realm of the Throne. Now that all of reality is now destroyed, its rules go with it.
Along with the rule of no former Demon King can retake the throne after losing it.
At least in theory, this plan was a slapdash affair based on pure conjecture. But with his immortality, there was no reason not to make an attempt.
The Throne was in its own realm beyond the boundaries of existence. It could only be reached by those whose Urge had developed enough that it began to guide them to it. He can sense its presence already. He looked upward and saw it, a translucent structure in the shape of a chair stood alone in a world of black. He was right, the throne’s realm lacked any sign of a Demon King’s color, it was a blank slate ready to be painted with the black and iron of Tyranny..
Tyranny turned towards the other three Demon Kings below him and launched a gravity orb at them which turned into a gravity tunnel that made them plummet further into the rainbow sea.
“The throne will be mine once again, Tyranny is inexorable!” Tyranny flew off into the rainbow void, emanating black order upon the rainbow chaos.
Zhang Jue grit his teeth, over the eons he ruled over existence, his temper, his rebellious and capricious rage against oppressors from when he was younger burned out, smothered by eternity and wisdom. But now, it was all flooding back, giving him the strength to right himself amidst the swirling chaos and gravity. Even if he is a failure, he refused to let Tyranny potentially take back the throne. The throne was quickly shrinking from his sight amidst the colors, he had to do something.
Zhang Jue mustered all of his strength and drew in all of the raw energy around him and began to unleash his true color from deep within his soul.
“Demon King of the 4th Heaven: Tàipíng Dào (The Way of Supreme Peace)!”
The rainbow sky above him solidified into yellow, clashing against Tyranny’s black and within the swirling vortex manifested hundreds of thousands of yellow turban soldiers. They were a motley lot ranging from peasants armed with farming equipment, Han soldiers armed with Ji, and phantom soldiers from the sage realm. They quickly formed a path towards the Throne, standing in Tyranny’s way and throwing Zhang Jue towards it by pulling him out of the gravity tunnel’s range. They locked arms, their strength enhanced by their master’s power, and formed a human rope to grab Zhang Jue out of the gravity field and threw him towards the throne, doing whatever they can to hasten their Great Teacher’s pace.
Tyranny blew away, knocked down, and cut through multiple waves of yellow turbans obstructing him with mercury tendrils and gravity blasts but they were seemingly endless in number, slowing him down.
“These peasants will not impede me, soldiers, clear the rabble!”
Mercury soldiers in heavy armor began to manifest and fight off the yellow turbans, forming a metal path to the Throne using their bodies, melting them into a perfectly smooth road. Awaiting Tyranny was a war chariot pulled by large mercury stallions, he stood in it and let the charioteer ride him towards the Throne, the chariot being faster than flying due to the smooth path as opposed to flying against the chaotic reality tides. Mercurial soldiers stood along the path and repelled any encroaching yellow turbans. The few who managed to get past the guards found themselves trampled beneath metal hooves.
The vortex was now a writhing mass of yellow and grey.
Aeternus looked up, realizing the situation he was in,
“I have more important matters than playing with trash.” Aeturnus bound the woman in black in divine chains, they would not hold her for more than a moment but that will have to do.
“You dare lay your filthy paws on my Throne? Decrepit antiques like you should stay buried! Demon King of the 5th Heaven: Puer Aeternus (Eternal Child)!”
Aeternus transformed into a star that emanated a white aura.
“I am wind, free and faster than anyone.”
The star transformed into a being of wind that radiated white light and was vaguely shaped like a human. It darted across the vortex like a shooting star, unimpeded by the gravity tunnel. Despite the headstart, Tyranny and Rebellion were seconds away from being overtaken by Aeturnus.
The woman in black seethed in rage. From the very moment she was conceived, her life was dominated by God's will. Her parents beat that fear into her bones. Every action, every breath she took was observed and planned by that thing. She spent her life searching for the forbidden fruit of knowledge that would allow her to challenge god, magic. But now that she has the power to fight back after nearly dying in her sanctum, the so-called supreme being runs away? She swore to painfully put an end to this coward. Even if she has to end all of existence to do it.
As she struggled against the chains, black flames sprouted upon the chains and burned them away like they were a fuse. The gravity seemed to lessen its oppressive hand on her body as the flames grew bigger. The Black, Yellow, and White auras were almost towards the throne, she did not know the significance of the Throne but every instinct in her body told her that she must reach it before they do.
“Demon King of the 6th Heaven: Múspell Ragnarokr!”
She emanated a fiery red aura as she beckoned the black flame in heart to burn away the distance between her and the Throne. She was instantly at the throne, leaving behind a trail of black flames in her wake, cutting through the yellow and grey soldiers.
All four demon kings extended their arms as far as they could to reach the throne.
All four of them touched it simultaneously.
At the touch of four Demon Kings, the Throne exploded into golden shards. Then the small plane the throne resided in was overtaken by the rainbow void. The rainbow vortex spun faster until all foreign entities were swept up in waves of raw reality, threatening to rend their flesh and subsume the souls inside.
“My Throne! You rotten basta-” Aeturnus was interrupted as a wave of color washed over them like water.
Zhang Jue was also swept up and below the tides, holding his breath as he felt like the chaos itself was trying to force his mouth open. He looked at his arm as it began to unravel into rainbow threads, he looked up and noticed his along with Tyranny’s soldiers were also unraveling. All of them were unraveling into the colorful chaos surrounding them. The Throne was the lynchpin that bound reality and defined it. Without it, reality and those who lived in it would unwind until nothing remained but roiling chaos. They must do something.
Zhang Jue motioned his hands to cast a spell to speak into the minds of the other three Demon Kings “Emanate your colors! If we paint over the chaos, order will be restored! I'd rather not test the limits of our immortality.” Zhang Jue said.
All four deities stood tall amidst the chaos and emanated their colors and all of their power to convert the myriad of colors surrounding them to their own singular one. The rainbow's myriad of colors were slowly painted over to only Black, Yellow, White, and Red.
As the woman in black did so, she noticed the four colors were shifting and pulling in broken land, water, air and other elements from across the destroyed universe and putting it within their color’s area. The broken shards of space were rebuilt into a new sky like putting a broken window back together. These chunks of raw reality were then broken up and rearranged, forming mountains, oceans, trees, and more. The colors were rearranging themselves according to the landmasses within them. This caused the four Demon Kings to move farther away from each other as distance was redefined.
The woman in black felt knowledge pouring into her head as she created her own land. Specifically the species that lived on it, the laws that govern magic use, the geography of the land and where its bounties were located. It was almost as if she had lived in this land her whole life.
Before she knew it, she found herself amidst a small island in the middle of a river, an expanse of forest surrounding her with mountains off in the distance. The island contained naught but sand, a modest patch of grass, a large rock and a modestly deep cave. It was only 50 paces deep into the earth, but it is suitable for temporary shelter.
The woman in black uttered a girly squeal. “I did it? I did it! I made a world of magic! Goodbye old world with its stupid magicless apes, now to find some people to worship me as their new go-” the woman in black could not finish her sentence as she suddenly felt her body go limp. Her mind became cloudy and her eyes felt like she had not slept in several days.
“Wait! No! Please! Body move! I can't die, not when I…just…got…here…”
The last thing she saw before the darkness took her was the clear blue sky. She never noticed it before, but the sky was so pretty.
Centuries passed, visions of people finding her, dying before her, worshipping her and bestowing upon her the name Synthara occasionally interrupted her blissful sleep. It felt less like she was dead and more that she was getting the best sleep in her life. Probably what she needed after going several days of sleep in her sanctum and destroying and rebuilding the universe.
Then she saw a great temple built in her name, only for said temple to fall into ruin. White-gold soldiers stormed the temple to kill her. They did not succeed. The soldiers that did come close to her spontaneously burst into flames and died. Then she felt the temple collapse on top of her tomb, her magical defenses barely enough to keep her from being crushed. The rocks were moved in such a way that her tomb remained mostly intact. The dreams became more frequent and detailed the longer she slept. She witnessed Goblins and Kobolds, real ones, make their home in her dungeon. Eventually, she became fully aware of her surroundings, her body having almost recovered its strength.
Then one day, she opened her eyes to the sight of a handsome silver-haired prince.
